DOUGLAS COUNTY NEEDS A DATA CENTER MORATORIUM!!! 

Let's talk about what a campaign for a Douglas County Data Center Moratorium would look like. 

Opposition to large new data centers is growing. Several very large projects have been proposed in and around the Omaha and Lincoln areas. Some are currently under construction.
Now is the time to learn, organize, and take action. We believe in cooperative knowledge building and a multi-pronged approach.

A moratorium, outright ban, or other impediments could happen at:

• City level
• County Board of Commissioners level
• State level (via more robust executive order, or state legislation)
• Natural resource district regulations
• Ballot initiative
• Utility level, (OPPD in Omaha area, NPPD other areas, LES, in Lincoln)
• Federal level via a variety of possible means

Of this list, a County wide moratorium passed by the board of commissioners has the most precedent in other counties (13 counties in NE already had data center moratoriums). Now it's Douglas County's turn.”

This isn’t a first hand account, but I asked if I could share the story to caution others. 

This happened at the Walgreens pharmacy on 132nd and Center. The pharmacist refused to fill a birth control script because of religious beliefs. The manager on duty said there was nothing they could do and told the customer to come back when a different pharmacist was working. 

It may be safer for anyone taking contraceptives to switch to a different pharmacy.

Hello! I’m looking to set up my own home server. Every time I start researching I get pretty overwhelmed by what feels like endless options, so reaching out for help. I may be misunderstanding how certain setups work, but want to create a really simple server.

I’m just looking for insight on whether or not my asks are realistic, and if not maybe point me in the right direction or towards resources. Below is my “wishlist”.  

Asks

• Don’t want to use my PC for hosting
• Ideally don’t want build an entirely new/dedicated PC
• Media Storage for Music and Movies
• Ability to add more storage later
• Plex streaming (with Lifetime Plex Pass)
• Access media library on other networks
• $500-600 to start

Optional Future Features

• HomeAssistant  
• Game server host (ie. valheim) 
• Additional storage

I have seen some posts about setting up very simple Plex servers with Nvidia Shield Pro and I’m really interested in that, however I don’t know if that can handle what I want it to.

UPDATE: Based on feedback I think I’m going to buy a used Mini/Micro PC and go from there. Thanks for helping me get my footing on my first server setup!

How do you feel about this news? I’m pretty frustrated with niantic. I know this isn’t uncommon but I don’t know if I feel comfortable participating.

I live in a newly constructed apartment building and the elevator breaks at minimum once per month. At first it seemed like a casual annoyance but it happens so commonly and I've witnessed elderly/disabled get stuck on some of the floors for 12+ hours.

With it being a brand new building and elevator, I feel like this shouldn’t be happening. Does anyone have advice on what we could/should do other than move?
