I have an estate account set up now and found a check made out to the deceased. Do I simply sign the back as my name, Personal Representative? Or Estate of XX?
Also, I use Chase and typically do use the app to take pictures of the checks I receive for my normal accounts. Is this option available for estate accounts too? Thank you!
I am now able to sell the car as the personal representative, but I think the car insurance has lapsed (will confirm when I get to the house). To drive it to the dealership to sell it, is there a way to purchase temporary insurance or how does that work? I have full insurance on my car in another state, but Googling said it needs to be for the car. Just want to cover my bases and not risk anything.
I could also see if Carvana would pick it up if I sell to them, but not sure if they service that area (or if they pay well).

I’m in Oregon and finally named the personal rep of my sister’s estate. Law office is not helpful or responsive, so wondering what I’m supposed to do about the mortgage in the meantime - she died in May and presumably from June on it hasn’t been paid (may have been on auto pay, who knows). I called and emailed the mortgage company, asked the law office to send the corrected death certs (funeral home also incompetent), don’t know if they did - I sent the ones I had with the typo.
No funds are currently available from the estate (all in the house which has this mortgage), I was the direct beneficiary for a bank account I could use I guess (but also don’t want to be on the hook for any bills personally) - do I pay anything now or just wait? I don’t want it to go into foreclosure or something. Thanks for any help.

Do I need to know the exact amounts for any reporting to the state (Oregon)? I am not on speaking terms with the “aunt” and told her to direct anything to the estate law office (they have not been helpful or responsive with me so far). Since the accounts were payable on death and bypass probate I wasn’t sure how much info I need. Thank you for any help!
My sister passed away in May and I’m still in the process of getting appointed personal representative in Oregon - a series of delays like incorrect death certificates, estate lawyer died, the law office doesn’t seem in a huge rush to do much and I have to call and follow up on emails/left in the dark. I notified the mortgage company and sent the death certificate and gave the info for the law office as the person on the phone instructed, documents showing I was in the process of becoming the personal rep.
But it’s September now and I’m paranoid they will foreclose or something on the house in the meantime. I don’t want to pay for the mortgage out of my own pocket (I could but don’t want to be on the hook for someone else’s mortgage). I believe May was paid for, not sure of subsequent months (may have been on auto pay for June?). A certified letter was attempted to be delivered at the house but I’m out of state. Any idea what it is? I will also update the mortgage company and be back later this month, I just mailed the signed bond and I believe that’s then submitted to the state for official approval. Next steps? Do I get access to funds quickly to pay it off? Thanks for any help.

My sister recently passed away and her will was not finalized. I am the sole heir and have an Oregon estate attorney in place, in the process of getting me named the personal representative. I am the beneficiary on a bank account and work retirement accounts, but to my surprise an elderly aunt by marriage is named the beneficiary to her Edward Jones accounts - mostly stocks from my parents, a Roth IRA. I called her and she was incredibly cold on the phone, and I called her out on it not being what my parents (also passed) intended.
This “aunt” was the personal representative for my mom’s estate 2 years ago and “helped” set up the Edward Jones accounts for us during the asset distribution (50-50 between my sister and I). My sister had named her to be the executor of her estate but she declined and said it was too much (but seems happy to collect this money). I am out of state and trying to hold it all together.
I am not sure if I have any legal recourse, since it may be more of a morally wrong but legal thing if she’s been named the beneficiary. I believe she would have been aware when my sister named her as one since they asked for a social security number normally.
She is meeting with them this week to discuss. I just feel like I have failed my parents and their intentions. Thank you for letting me write it out.
