“Being cheap” will never be an insult. Frugality is a superpower in today’s world.

I see “being cheap” mentioned as an insult at least once in almost every thread here. Personally, I can’t even wrap my head around how someone could think being frugal is a bad thing. I’ve worked in food service/retail and tried to make people aware of deals or sales that could save them a bit of money, and most people are happy to do so because it allows them to spend what they saved on something else they need. Some of the most successful people I know are also the most frugal or “cheap” and pride themselves on being so because it allows them to stretch their money further and the only downside seems to be some social stigma that still lingers. Idk just needed to vent because it’s driving me nuts

Brand new to nail art, what do I need to buy to practice/hopefully achieve something like this?

I’ve only ever painted my nails black and had no interest in nail art on myself until seeing these and some similar styles. They all have a glossy “gem-like” look that I’m assuming is gel? Do I need special tools or equipment? I want to mess around with different colors and textures so any brand recommendations are appreciated!!

Inherited stocks going to unclaimed property… how can I track them down?

USA/FL

Sorry if this is the wrong sub to ask, but my brother and I inherited stocks from our grandmother. We were able to sort most of them out but now nearly five years later I searched her name in the unclaimed property of my state, and it says “CASH IN LIEU OF FRACTIONAL SHARES” / “STOCK REDEMPTION FUNDS” / “UNCLAIMED DIVIDENDS” with various amounts. I’m assuming these are coming from investments that are being held somewhere.
What are my options in this situation? I’d like us to claim them before they are turned over to the state or something.

What caused this background texture?

Tried taking some photos of birds to test out my new lens. Photo is 100mm, f4.5, 1/4000 sec, ISO 2000. I was happy with the set in camera but I’m messing around in Lightroom now, not sure if I’m overthinking or if the water behind their heads is a weird texture, mostly when zoomed in. Personally, I think it looks kinda cool still but I’m not sure if this is just “bad form” or due to a technical error on my part lol

Kamakura or Nikko (or someplace else) for a day trip in August?

Preparing for my second trip to Tokyo in August and I want to venture outside of the city this time. I’m torn between Kamakura and Nikko, but also wouldn’t be opposed to both if it isn’t too much to squeeze into an 8 day trip. I’m open to an overnight/weekend stay, just don’t want to add too much travel time or stress with luggage. I photograph wildlife, am a big foodie, and enjoy nature/hiking so any suggestions with that in mind are greatly appreciated :)

Light kit recommendations for short narrative films with a tiny crew?

Looking for something relatively beginner friendly as I usually shoot in natural light. Currently considering the STORM 80c 3-Light Kit which runs about $2000. That’s on the higher end of the budget but I’ve seen it recommended quite a bit. Anyone have experience with this one?

Is this worth having in my toolbelt?

I’m a photographer so I have plenty of experience with Photoshop / Lightroom but I’m still getting the hang of Premiere. I’d like to spend more time working with my camera than re-learning editing at the moment, so I’m wondering if this would be a good for me to mess around with while I’m trying to make some videos for my portfolio. I shoot a lot on film as well so it seems in line with my “aesthetic” of editing. Does anyone have experience with this product/brand?

Photographer out of my depth with a Canon c70, looking for boom mic recommendations to learn/film with

I’ve barely utilized the video function on my own camera (5d mark iv) but I was given a c70 and am feeling really overwhelmed by everything sound. Other things are coming more naturally but I’m not even sure where to start with microphones. I’ve filmed with the built in mic and loved the footage but as you can imagine sound was pretty rough. I’ve since tried to educate myself a bit and it seems like I’m going to need a boom mic if I want to utilize the camera for some low budget filmmaking.

I’d really like to get something that will last me for the next decade or so but will also be simple enough to learn with as I go. I’m okay with spending around $1000-$2000 since I don’t have to worry about investing in new lenses and the body was technically free. The Sennheiser 416 has been recommended a lot but I’m not sure if that’s too “advanced” seeing as I still don’t know what I’m doing. Any help appreciated
