Posting this on behalf of a friend who’s in a really difficult situation.
He has his US visa OFC appointment on 10th September and his Consular interview on 28th September.
He was selected for SPIS, a highly competitive summer program where only 30–40 students were selected, and he received a full scholarship. His I-20 program start date is 2nd August.
He already submitted one emergency visa request, but it was rejected. He hasn’t submitted a second emergency request yet. He also has:
A university support letter
A late arrival letter
If he doesn’t get an earlier visa appointment (ideally by 4th August) or if the second emergency request is rejected, he’ll have to request a new I-20 and skip SPIS entirely.
The problem is that even with a new I-20, the university’s regular Fall intake starts on 17th September, with the latest arrival date being 21st September. His current visa interview is on 28th September, which means he could miss enrollment altogether.
He suspects the first emergency request may have been rejected because, when he applied, his I-20 start date was less than 14 days away.
Has anyone been in a similar situation? Is it worth submitting a second emergency request with the university support letter and late arrival letter? Are there any other ways to get an earlier appointment or improve the chances of approval?
