Therapeutic Acupuncture

Hey everyone.

My therapist recommended acupuncture but I don't really know where to start. I see a lot of offices that also do chiropractic work or injury recovery which isn't specifically what I'm needing, even though it wouldn't hurt to have an adjustment.

What i think I'm trying to find is a reputable acupuncturist in the holistic realm, i guess. From my Google search i found a whole lot of results but some of their websites don't give much clear information.

Any information you can give me would be beneficial, like what places to avoid/your experiences/what kinds of keywords I could use to narrow my search/what kinds of questions I should be asking/what to expect during a session. Basically, I need all the info lol.

Your assistance is appreciated! Thanks in advance!

Total Newbie - Twine?

Hi all. I have literally never done macrame in my life. I crochet, have done rexlace, and have wrapped stones in thread before, but I think I'm looking for something more specific here.

I want to make a lighting decoration using baby food jars as the holders. In theory, they would hang from crossed dowels at different lengths. What kind of pattern should I be searching for to do this with, like, fishing line? Are there any tools that could help make this a little easier, given the small nature of both the twine and the jars? Any creative ideas here?

I have a very vague vision of how I'd like it to look but I'm so beyond open to suggestions from folks with experience.

Thanks in advance!

Self-destructive Tendencies

Hey all. I need some assistance.

I am self-destructive, but not in like a really outward, obvious way. I used to be - I was an alcoholic for years, had some other pretty bad patterns, but I pulled myself out of all of that. Now the destruction is more subtle.

I tend to jump in with both feet on things. Things I really want, like certifications. I work hard on it, get so close to the finish line, and then just lose all motivation for it. Right now I'm 75% of the way to a certification I do really want, but I haven't been able to get myself to work on it. And sometimes, there is a logical and valid reason. Perhaps I got too busy, or my brain needed a break. But when I take a break, I tend to not pick it back up for much longer than the break was intended to be. I know I need to do it, hell, I even want to do it, but it just falls into the pile of unrealized dreams. I do it with projects, too. I get all excited and then get most of the way through and put it down. Right now, I'm working on a crochet cardigan I started probably more than 4 years ago and just never finished.

My therapist (yes, I'm in therapy and have been for years) would probably say something like, "Your trauma makes you believe you don't deserve to have this thing," but I know myself pretty well and I don't really think that's true. Though, part of my problem has always been that I logically know something, but can't actually convince my brain that it's true. This applies more to triggering things, I think, but maybe someone can give some insight here.

Anyway, does anyone else deal with this? And how do you deal with this? I want this certification. I want to turn this into my career. I just can't tell if I'm in some weird low-grade depressive episode or what, but it's like everything else is taking precedence right now, and that "everything else" is stuff that actually doesn't matter.

Any insight you folks can give me would be appreciated. Maybe ideas as to why, and also how to move past it.

If you know what "energetic blocks" are, I'd love an explanation for that, too, but that question may be more appropriate in the yoga sub.

Thanks, I hope.

What do you think? Garrity

Do you think Brian Garrity will have a larger role in upcoming seasons?

What would you like to see for him?

After S19E9, it seems he and Prentiss have reached a truce (and I'll admit I balled when I thought he'd died, but I do tend to cry when most members of the team cry (thanks, EMDR!))

So I'm curious what you folks think, whether this season will be the conclusion of this blast-from-the-past character or if he will go on to be involved, somehow, in Emily's life.

I fixed my vacuum!

Hi all! Story time...

I've (36f) been feeling a little low. I'm not working at the moment which leaves me too much free time outside of schoolwork, which is a relatively sedentary task. So today I set out to do some cleaning. I grabbed the happy lil Spin the Wheel app (not my app, but awesome tool if you have analysis paralysis) and it chose my hallway bathroom and the hallway and entry way.

The hallway is carpet while the entry is wood, and the hallway gets neglected when I send the roomba out because I don't want it on my hard floors. ANYWAY....

For almost a year, my upright vacuum has been less than fully functional. I pulled it apart early in its downfall and found a clog in the upper and lower hoses. I cleared the upper and *thought* I had cleared the lower. I put the vacuum back together, and next thing I know, the belt melts off. I buy the belt, pull the vacuum apart again, and replace it. Unfortunately, the vacuum still isn't sucking things into the tank. I didn't have the energy to keep messing with it, so I didn't. It half worked, anyway.

Today, I'm vacuuming the hallway with my half-working vacuum and I needed the corner tool. I pulled the upper hose and floor detritus starts pooping its way out of where the hose sits. So I say, "Screw it," unplug the vacuum, get on the floor, and get to work. I have straw cleaners (don't worry, it will never be used in a straw) and a tool to clean further into my lint trap. The upper hose still required me to shove a broom handle into it, but the lower required far more finagling.

FINALLY it clears. I put it all back together and hope for the best, and it worked!!!

I find vacuuming very satisfying, so this is like Christmas for me. I also have never really needed to fix things myself until I finally moved away from my dad, who had a tendency to just take over and not really teach me how to do things like this.

So today, I feel capable, and resourceful, and accomplished.

This also highlighted a need for preventative measures. If I stayed on top of vacuuming in the first place (I have three long-haired cats) and emptying the tank more frequently, this wouldn't have happened. So now comes the plan to put this item in my regular routine so I run less risk of running into this problem.

Anyway, I know this is probably the most boring post you'll read today, but I'm proud of myself and can now make myself happy with clean floors again.

Huzzah!

Can we talk about how good of a villain he makes?

I loved him in Weeds. I loved him in Modern Family. In both, he was kinda bumbling, awkward, but an overall decent dude.

As The Fan, Justin Kirk just works.

I seriously hope this series never ends. I've been riveted since season one and it somehow just stays so damn good.
