Power Of Dua

I would like to share a little story to offer some hope and a reminder. Inchallah this will inspire some of you.

A while ago, I started having some dreams that my father is suffering or is in pain. I didn’t share them because we are not suppose to share bad dreams. After a short period of time, one morning, I greeted my parents as I was leaving for work. Everything was normal and routine.

10 minutes later as I was driving, my mother called me screaming and crying unintelligibly. My brother took the phone, his voice heavy and full of sorrow, saying “Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji’un.” In that moment, I was in complete shock. The 10 minute drive back were the longest drive of my life. I rushed back, making constant du‘a, holding onto even the smallest hope.

My father went into cardiac arrest. His heart stopped for 15 minutes.

When I arrived, I saw his body surrounded by paramedics. My family was gushing in tears. I paused, became completely silent , never stopped making du‘a, and deep down felt inshaAllah, there was still a chance.

They shocked him three times… and then, by Allah’s will, his heart came back just as they were about to give up and take his body onto the stretcher.

The doctors at the hospital warned us of very high chance of brain damage. Since oxygen was cut off for a significantly long time. They told us he was considered medically dead for that whole time . My mother said she would be grateful if he simply survived. But I reminded her: we should ask Allah for complete healing His generosity has no limits. That’s exactly what we did. While waiting i recited Surat Al baqara and didn’t waste a breath without making dua.

And He answered.

My father recovered fully. No brain damage. No memory loss. Nothing.

It was nothing short of a miracle, and a reminder to never despair in Allah’s mercy. Recent visit to my family doctor and friend informed me that the survival rate of what he went through is zero.

Is Pure Maple Syrup Healthier Than Sugar?

I have always had a habit of drinking carbonated drinks for a long time before cutting it off completely last few months. I had the craving and thought to make something healthy(er).

I squeezed some lemons, pomegranate, and added some maple syrup to sweeten it. Poured the mixture into a cup of carbonated water, and let me tell you, I’ve created something elite!

But I don’t want to like it too much. I wonder if pure maple syrup is actually healthier than sugar in moderation. While honey works very well, it adds an unfavourable aftertaste.

Got into a little discussion with my family about a wedding. I shared my strong views against music, dancing and free mixing in my future wedding.

They are however encouraging me to be more lenient and not to make it a dealbreaker.

Bit of a background. I don’t listen to music. I do believe the ruling regarding it is more nuanced than halal or haram. Not exactly black and white. It’s a shubha nonetheless.

Obviously the free mixing part is not debatable. But they’re telling me that a women only wedding is ok to have music and dancing if there are no men involved. My thinking is that women shouldn’t be dressed immodestly and dancing even in front of other women, as these days everyone records with their phones and it’s difficult to regulate it completely.

Most music or songs especially ones used during weddings contain elements that are haram and full of immorality.

The sunnah has always been a walimah and publicizing the nikah. Everything else is cultural.

Share your perspectives jazakum Allah.

Lately I’ve been getting major migraines in the final hours of fasting. Anyone have any tips, or suggestions on types of foods to have for suhoor to alleviate this? This time of the year where I am, Maghreb is very late, but I don’t wish to abandon this sunnah.

Jazakum Allah khair.
