Making a mess

Today my son took half a pack of crackers crushed them and made a huge mess on the floor. Crackers on the dog, on the chairs, the table every where. Him? Happy as could be. Where was i? Bathing the baby gone maybe 5 minutes. I almost cried.

How do I help my son learn to respect boundaries

My son (age 6) is level 1 asd, and Ive been struggling to teach him that not everyone is okay with him just walking up to them and talking, or being goofy. Today at a restaurant the speaker was playing a song he liked and he just walked up to a table of strangers and started dancing. Of course they smile and laugh because he's cute and it just fuels him to keep on going. He's a goofy little kid with a literal heart of gold, but still hasn't grasped that we dont walk up to strangers and do silly things in their space. Any advice how how to redirect this or teach him not to do this?

School or homeschooling

My 4 yr old is entering preschool in September. Next week we see the pediatrician to start his adhd assessment. Occupational therapy starts in August. I've been reading a lot of posts/comments in this sub about their kids getting kicked out of their schools because of behavior. While I am praying this won't be our case I can't help but feel that I should mentality prepare for it just incase. That being said, from experienced parents would suggest to keep trying public school or would homeschooling be a more positive route? We currently homeschool our neurotypical child and we really enjoy it. I want my child to thrive, so I wonder if one-on-one at home would benefit him? We also live rurally so we are limited to what a school can do for him if they have the funding or not. We already got the news the special program for kids like him was defunded due to lack of enrollment and the nearest school with the funding was 35 minutes away. We can not drive that, especially in winter.

I'd love go hear others experiences.

A rant…I don’t even know

We had a long day in the city (we live rurally) doing some shopping. While in the book store our 4 yr old found some toys which we let him walk around with but said we would not be buying. I often wonder how much he truly picks up. I’m in the process of getting him evaluated. We go to leave the store and husband (god bless that man as he took on the brunt of our child today) and my 4 yr old falls to the floor and screams. He picks him up to remove him the store and later I was told he did everything he could to get of his arms. Hitting, biting, screaming you name it. This was just the first of many incidents today. And when he wasn’t hitting us he was running around, touching everything. Honestly feel like I have ptsd because when I hear a different child scream I tense up thinking it’s my kid! I love him dearly and I can’t wait to get help for him, for us…..

Is fairyloot going down the drain?

I was on instagram and came across a video of someone expressing disappointment with their sub. Then I watched a bunch of videos stating the same thing. Is fairyloot loosing its popularity? I’ve noticed that the picks and designs have been not so great this year.

Picky eating

Taking accountability for our poor choices in what to feed our kids we want to make dietary changes. More whole homemade foods, less packaged snacks etc. we’re basically starting from ground zero here with kids that refuse to even finish their toast in the morning. Has anyone ever done a full 180 in their kids diets and have success?

Am I too quick to judge?

I struggle with Charles (Pa) and his decision to continue to uproot his family again and again. I was just wondering though, am I looking at it through the lense of my modern thinking and was everyone just okay with being nomadic? I think Caroline (Ma) might have struggled with the constant moving but didn’t say much? Correct me if I’m wrong there? Moving around wasn’t as “hard” as is it today. Thoughts?

Sibling fighting

How have you handled the sibling conflict? My 4 year old (we suspect he has adhd getting the process started to get tested) is a lot for his older brother who is not-neurodivergent. They will fight almost all day and because my 4 year old is severely speech delayed it’s not like I can get them to talk it out. They share a bedroom (their choice believe it or not) but I find my older son asking for more and more privacy away from his younger brother. I’m concerned this will impact their relationship as teenagers. Any advice on how to solve sibling conflict and create a good relationship?

Picky eaters?

Laura writes about food a lot in her books, and I love it, but do you think there were picky eaters in the 1870’s? lol now before you go “girl kids being picky isn’t new” I agree but! How do you think a family would approach this? Especially with food being scarce sometimes? We see in farmer boy that Almanzo ate well and wasn’t picky.

Can you cancel a preorder?

I had a moment of FOMO and purchased the shield of sparrow books. I genuinely enjoy the books and I do think the fairyloot editions are beautiful but!!! After the exchange rate it was very expensive. Is it possible to cancel?

Can someone explain this to me?

My almost 4 year old is almost text book adhd BUT he can sit still for long periods of time doing 1 thing. I’m not sure if this is a stereotype but I assumed kids with adhd cannot sit still at any capacity? I am going to ask for a referral to a ped to possibly start a testing process for him. But sometimes I just don’t know…he will do something totally off the charts and then sit still and play with magnet tiles for 30 minutes. Am I missing the mark?

My doctor doesn’t tell me every thing and it impacts my health

For context I cannot switch doctors as I live rurally and doctors are hard to get here.

I recently had my third baby and developed pre-e. It was a difficult pregnancy…

Ive gotten much better though since giving birth and have lost 36 pounds. Im trying to heal my body from years of gaining weight and lack of exercise. But my doctor never really tells me anything from my blood work results. Says it all looks good and “don’t worry about it” every appointment it’s “don’t worry about it”

My pregnancy resulted in high blood pressure, and I recently started learning about cholesterol, and from my blood work I had low HDL (good cholesterol) and high triglycerides. Basically I’m at risk for a stroke! He never told me this prior to getting pregnant and I wonder if that contributed to my rough pregnancy? I decided to go through all my blood work and google what and try to understand what I can on my own because clearly this man doesn’t care to tell me the truth.

Why does it feel that as a woman if I don’t take my health into my own hands I would probably become very sick?

Do you add a health work book?

I’m looking at grade 1 health/nutrition work book but I’m wondering if it’s even necessary? When would you actually incorporate a health subject into your kids work load?

Can we take action or SOL

We bought a house less than a year ago and it had multiple issues that were not found on inspection. We chose to deal with the issues rather than take legal action. This morning we woke up to a flooded basement. We’ve straight up had enough and I’m wondering if we can take legal action against the former owners or if we should say f**k it just another issue we need to deal with.
Note: I reviewed our inspection report and the inspector said nothing about the foundation other and the former owners did not disclose a flooding issue. The flooding is pretty severe so they would have had to have known?

Is this still learning or cheating?

So I want to commit to holiday themed lessons this year and the book I purchased is Charlotte Mason inspired. There is a narration note book where the child writes about what we read. My child is entering grade one. He can write but can’t read/spell yet. If I were write his narration down and have him copy it into the notebook is that still considered learning/completing the lesson or is it cheating? I don’t want to do the work for him but I want to…do the work…ya know 😅

How to fight the cravings/food noise

How do you fight the food noise/cravings, when you choose not to take weight loss meds (not hating on medication just a personal preference) I’m breastfeeding and the PMOS makes me so hungry. Like I can eat a good breakfast and be hungry again in an hour. I think it’s a mind over matter situation but wondering if anyone has come up with a way to ignore the food noise?
