Guess the mechanism
I’m working on a cassette recorder. Would you care to guess what this is out of? It runs on 6v and I’m not certain of the age. It puts most other mechanisms to absolute shame!

Have any of you read this article from headphonesty? Pretty good read. Take it for what it is.

Here lately, it seems like I’ve been replacing a lot of pressure pads on cassettes. It’s like almost every 4th tape needs a new pad, due to it being displaced or missing altogether. Anyone else had similar experience? I don’t bother trying to reglue them, done that in the past, mixed results. Using the sticky back kind now.
Today may have been my lucky day! Had to haul some stuff to Goodwill. Thought what the heck, may as well look. 15 records! 4 CDs 💿!
1 cassette!
Nothing earth shattering, but some pretty good ones!
Just finished restoring these the last couple of days. They all play great! Have a few more that I have repaired too!
Today’s haul, “Led Zeppelin - The Song Remains The Same” is missing tape 1 of 2
Just wanted to share. Repairing a RCA RCD150 Boombox radio worked, cassette and CD not so much! Cassette was making running noise, CD would not eject. Cassette needed belts, CD player needed a good cleaning, old grease turned basically to glue and would not eject. It all needed a good cleaning and relubrication with synthetic grease and oils. On another note. You have to completely disassemble the thing just to remove the CD mechanism and cassette mechanism. Lots and lots of screws.
Finally got around to finishing up a Marantz linear tracking turntable. A good cleaning, and relubrication a few adjustments. Works great! Was having issues sourcing incandescent size searcher lamp (IN128001AR) after some reading I was able replace it with a 8V bi-pin led that absolutely fit and works perfectly! Sourced from AliEx bag of 10.
Like the header states what is the real difference between the KPH40 Retro, and KPH40 Utility?
Besides the price, and color combo?
Utility is $40 USD, and Retro is $30 USD
Is there really any difference?
Bought this old 70’s Sansui SR-313 a little while back. It was in bad shape, worked through it when I had time. Veneered the plinth with walnut, platter was corroded, lots of polishing. Original cartridge, new stylus. It’s a work in progress though.
No dust cover, that’s next…
Did my first mod. Koss KPH40 MMCX sockets, longer braided MMCX cable, YAXI pads. Still thinking about the flower 🌼 mod, and the 25mm hole 🕳️ in the pad mod.
Today’s haul! A couple ordered from https://retrospekt.com/, the others from a thrift shop.
Two from retrospekt were still in shrink, one from thrift was still in shrink.
Got these in the mail! They are in VG+ condition or better! Was so surprised, 😳 and the price was amazing!
