Modified PowerPint

This started because the PowerPint's can opener is unusable from factory. I busted out my grinder and shaved it down to a point so I can use it properly, and while I was at it I added a scraper to the bottle opener. After grinding I finished the edges with a diamond file. Not going for perfection, but I think it looks decent enough and more importantly it does a job.

Surge hard at work

I love this tool. It's on my hip every day at work and around my property. My one gripe: why Leatherman greenlit a wire cutter design with a gap at the bottom is beyond me. Will be replacing them with the straight-edge version that can be found on etsy.

Beater tools

I daily nice multitools, usually my Surge or Spirit MX Clip, but I haven't been brave enough to take either of them to the river yet. Mainly I'm afraid of losing them.

That's where beater tools come in, and it sometimes surprises me how well they perform. This is my Ozark Trail 17 in 1, the cheapest multitool I own, and it kicked ass at the river. I used the knife to open and process mussels for fish bait and to cut fishing line, used the pliers to press weights onto my line, and to bend a hook back into place, and used the fish scaler to scrape spiderwebs off a pair of water shoes I left outside prior to the trip. It spent the day in a pouch on my waist, getting splashed and submerged all day, which I'll admit the thought of doing to my Leatherman still bothers me. Tools are meant to be used, and I'm slowly getting more comfortable with treating my premium tools like tools as nature intended.

The point is that you can get shit done with a cheap multitool. The OT did everything I asked it to without issue, and came back a little dirty but otherwise no worse for wear.

This is so cool!

This is Modryte's utility knife attachment for the Leatherman Surge, which replaces the serrated knife.

Install/carry notes:

This install took me about 5 minutes including re-tuning the pivot tension once it was all together. Unlike some clones, the Leatherman Surge's plier arms do NOT remain under spring tension when closed, making it incredibly easy to remove and replace the pivot screws for a job like this. Also, I was worried the slightly larger profile of the attachment would cause clearance issues with my Galvanox pouch, but the difference is completely negligible and it's made no difference in terms of how it fits in the pouch or the ergonomics of using other tools.

Personal notes:

This swap was a no brainer. I've only used the serrated blade a couple of times, but find myself using my Milwaukee fastback on a near daily basis. This is perfect for use as a beater blade, package opening, any task that benefits from a short blade as opposed to the large main knife on the Surge, and (perhaps most importantly) a knife I'm comfortable handing off when some jackass asks for a pocket knife and proceeds to do the most heinous shit you've ever witnessed. This is a big step in condensing my EDC as much as reasonably possible without sacrifice. My fastback will remain in close orbit to me(especially at work), no doubt, because it's a great tool, but the less I need to carry the better.

To fellow Surge owners, hope this is helpful info. To Modryte, thank you so much for making such a kickass implement. I will be purchasing from you again.

Added a custom thumb stud to my Surge!

I grabbed some hardware from my ✨Drawer of Infinite Bullshit✨ and then used a grind belt to take off material from the bolt until it fit against the spine of the Surge without scraping. It's crude, but it's more or less color matched and certainly makes a difference deploying the main blade. It is, by its nature, adjustable along the length of the blade cutout, which is nice. I have no idea the specs of this hardware, so I won't be able to tell you. If you want a DIY thumb stud, just try shit until it works!

For anyone who cares, I also swapped the micro driver I previously modded in for the original small flathead, as I've never used it since installing it. Eventually I'd like to get the adapter that KristenVanPatten makes, that way I can still use the micro bit if needed, but without taking up its own tool slot, and with more versatility via the bit extender.

Most dialed my carry has been so far!

Items: glasses wipes, altoids tin kit (includes a pair of latex gloves, tums, ibuprofen, bandaids, and an emergency zip tie), prescription transitions glasses, Ozark Trail cutlery multitool, Leatherman Surge (carried in a Galvanox pouch with a bit kit, extension, rachet head, T-shank saws, and a Milwaukee marker), Amazon flip wallet with a card deploy function, Rite-in-the-Rain bolt action pen, and a bic lighter.

I realized after the fact I forgot to include the electrical tape I normally have on hand because my current roll ran out at work today, lol. I will also note that my keys usually host a Victorinox Compact, however I'm working on adding the scale tools into my Surge to condense things down as much as possible. My work carry expands on this loadout, including a tool pouch and other items for construction work, but this is the most up to date iteration of what lives in my pockets and on my belt full-time!

Happy Friday! What are you carrying today?

This is my Leatherman Surge with a micro bit driver. This is hands down my favorite tool that I own. My first real-deal multitool was a Bibury 2049 since I couldn't afford a Surge at the time, and I'm thankful to have one now. I'm planning on adding Modryte's hammer and utility blade in the near future.

These mini toolboxes are PERFECT for storing multitools!

Saw a couple other people do this recently and I really liked the idea. Particularly happy with how nicely my four sheath tools fit in the bottom. My main takeaway is that there's one spot that still needs filled, lol.

Looking for a recommendation between these three tools

Getting a new multitool today and I'm undecided between these three. I posted earlier including a SOG but I'm not super into the toolset on that so I've revised my list to these three budget options. I own Leatherman, Victorinox, and Bibury tools and I like them all for what they each do well and I have a good idea of what to expect from tools in this price bracket. Just looking for a tie breaker!

Forgot how cool the PowerPint is

People love it for a reason! I typically flip between carrying a Surge and a Swisstool MX Clip, so I'm used to larger tools. I decided I should give the little guy some love for a change, and I forgot how much I like it.

I addressed a couple pain points; I filed down the pivot pin on the scissors which caught on the frame when closing, I loosened the screw a hair on that side of the tool to stop everything from binding up, and I sharpened the pull cutter. Those little tweaks make it so much more fun to work with. If you don't have one of these and you like multitools, I definitely recommend adding it to your collection.

Tactical Impact

Bought this impact off marketplace a couple years ago for like $30. Kicks ass. I use it at work all the time but I've always wished it had a hanging clip, a better light, and bit storage. So I taped a light to the side and screwed a Milwaukee clip and a piece of a Packout storage box into it

Cable management

Enjoy some before and after pics of some possibly overkill cable management in my 2008 P71. On the weekends I'm working on completely restoring and revamping the car, and any wires I come across in the process get pampered. Trimmed to even length, fresh tape, loom where applicable, and fresh connectors. As many of you know there's lots of janky upfitter shit to work through, plus I have some aftermarket bits I've been retooling. Pics here are of the radio harness, headlight, footwell sections of body harnesses, and aftermarket lighting.

Can I use a slightly larger wire gauge on my fuse holder for accessory lighting?

I'm hardwiring a set of amber lights to my battery, and since the unit didn't come with one, I'm splicing a 5A fuse onto the power wire. The power wire is 22awg, but I messed up and ordered a 20awg fuse holder. The way I planned on setting it up was by simply crimping ring connectors onto the power and ground wires and securing them to the battery terminal bolts. Herein lies my question: Provided the fuse matches the thinner wire, can I safely get away with running the larger wire right off the battery?

To recap how the power wire would be set up, I'll be taking the 20awg fuse holder, crimping a ring connector to one end that will attach to the battery, and crimping the power wire for my lights onto the other side, which will result in the wire size stepping down from 20awg to 22awg a couple inches after the fuse.

Has anyone ever done a folding rear seat / trunk passthrough conversion?

This thin metal behind the backrest is obviously not structural, so I'd imagine it'd be as simple as relocating the fuel pump module and some wires, possibly adding a bit of reinforcement to the rear deck, and adding hinges to the backrest. Does anyone have insight on this idea? I think it would be super cool to have the option to fold the seat to pass long items through the trunk into the cabin, and possibly add storage behind the backrest like you see on some trucks.

Is it possible to make these P71 seats lighter?

Minor gripe I know, but I'm restoring my Crown Vic little bits at a time and these P71 seats are HEAVY. Since I'm moving them around so much I've got to thinking if it would be worth ripping out the lumbar electronics and any other unnecessary mass. Is that worth the trouble?
