Doesn't case prep beat the point of a case interview?

I'm a freshman at a pure science course and I'm aspiring to become a consultant in the future. During my research about the job and how to get in the industry, I learn that the firms value people with strong analytical skills, who can structure a problem from non-structured data, and came across a number of products teaching how to solve business cases, targeted specifically for people who are interviewing for consultant roles.

This is perplexing to me, because if the candidates learn how to structure their thinking not by their own, but by learning what recruiters expect, then the firms won't be able to select people who can truly think well, structure a problem on their own and think outside of the box. At the same time, I'm sure the recruitment processes of big firm's is sophisticated, and they must have a way of selecting good candidates anyway.

Given this context, I'd love to hear a clarification on the usefulness of case prep courses, and also advice on how to get a good job at an MBB when I don't come from a Business, Economics or Engineering background.

I did everything and still have no girlfriend

I started doing sports, I got into the best university in my country, I started doing volunteer work, I began taking care of my mental health, I became more social, lost a big of my shyness, became more elloquent and confident and even lost some weight. Yet, I still don't have friends or a girlfriend.

It's not like I think I'm entitled to a gf, it's just that I'd expect to happen naturally at some point. Yet, women are still disinterested in me. For example, there was one time when I tried to strike a conversation with my coursemate at university - not with a second intention, I just wanted to meet her, and we even attended a place in common prior to joining school (I could tell because she was carrying a bag with a logo from that place). We talked for two minutes and she eventually began ignoring me and went to talk to her other friends. Other women in general don't seem very receptive to, judging by how they look. In contrast, I was able to make a male collegue and a few male acquaintances at university, at the volunteering program, and even talked to a stranger guy one day at an event.

Why I can't have success in platonic or romantic relationships with women?

I rode an uber with two girls...

Yesterday I went out to do some volunteer work, which went until quite late, at almost midnight. The organizers encouraged us to go back home together, and my place was pretty close to where the girls would be staying, so we went together in the same uber.

It was such a specific event for me. I don't usually have a lot of close contact with others, so staying only a few centimeters apart from two girls for a couple of tens of minutes isn't exactly something I'm used to. However, because I'm making progress with my fear of women (and in general trying to become slightly more sociable and pleasant to others), it wasn't a bad experience.

I tried to go on the passenger's seat first, but it was full with stuff from the driver (clothes, water and stuff), so I had to go on the back. I leaned against the door to keep myself as far as possible from the girl on my side and didn't put my seatbelt so as not to run the risk of accidentally touching the girl. They told me "Bye, see you next week!" as they left the uber, but I was too preoccupied with fear that I had been a weirdo or something that I only realized they talked to me after the uber left towards my home.

The most curious part of the whole thing was how the girls were talking between them during the ride (note: pretty sure they were friends from school and one would be sleeping at the other's house). It's hard to describe, but hearing them talk was very fun. They seemed to be way younger than they are. They sounded just as excited and emotioned as I was as a kid, before I had mental health problems for the first time. They seemed very confident with themselves, they even chatted with the driver about how ridiculous were the prices of coke on DoorDash, and how yucky the plastic cups were - they ordered burgers and a soft drink.

Honestly? I wish I receive more opportunities like this on the future. Interacting with humans feels good and watching some humans interact also feel good. Hopefully I will lose my fear of approaching and begin chatting with strangers as well, like a guy did with me at an event I attended recently.

Thanks for reading my blog post.
