80s Office Building Left To Rot

80s Office Building Left To Rot

I often have the opportunity to go inside a variety of vacant buildings or otherwise-denied areas of occupied buildings during the course of my job.

This one is a 6-story central atrium style office building left to vagrants and metal scrappers. Looking straight up from the center of the ground floor.

Thought LED turn signals were an upgrade

This is mainly a gritch session, but also seeing if anyone else has had this problem with aftermarket amber LEDs.

One of the first (and only) mods I did when I got my 23 was to swap turn signal bulbs. I went with Lasfit 7440NA and I've mildly regretted it ever since.

For one thing - and this is purely on me - I recall choosing the "medium" brightness. For the last 3 years, I've felt bad for folks behind me at night. They're really REALLY bright.

Also, after they've been flashing for a while they start to short-blink. Not hyper. Just short. It's like something got too hot and can't go on. It happens when I have the hazards on a few minutes or when the turn signal has been on at a long traffic light.

Have they fixed this or am I better off going back to the incandescent OEM bulbs?

The video is just to show how bright they are. They're not short-blinking.

Too dang hot

We're roasting here in sunny SE Texas, so it's been too hot to shoot. So I'm practicing my editing on some stuff I shot a couple of months ago. The chrome shot was the first image out of the box - just to familiarize myself with it.

720nm and IR Chrome on a full-spectrum R100. The 720nm were with an EF 17-85mm. The IR Chrome with a RF 10-18mm.

Edits in Photoshop and Topaz Photo.

Befuddled for 15+ years

This is Texas coastal plains area. Our mystery plant has plagued our tree rings for more than 15 years. We only see it around the base of our trees, within the tree rings.

Not sure if I'm using the correct term here, but we've always described it as "vascular" due to the nature of the stem - somewhat hollow and wet. It breaks easily and the roots are seriously dug-in, making it hard to eradicate.

Round-up annoys it, but doesn't kill the root - just the leaves where it lands. We'd like to eradicate it, but it is imperative that the trees not be harmed.

No banana available, so dog snout for reference.

TIA

I can't imagine the difficulties he's going to encounter. Like fitting in a patrol car. I'm already cramped at 6'5".

New Gear | R100 full-spectrum IR conversion + EF-S 17-85mm

~10 years ago, I dabbled in infrared photography with a converted PowerShot G7, but abandoned the pursuit when my shots weren't immediately perfect. It's an ADHD thing, I've learned.

Now, at 50 and with the aforementioned ADHD both acknowledged and controlled, I've decided to give it another whirl. I was going to convert my dad's Nikon Z7 he bought shortly before he died. I still might some day. I ended up buying a new R100 converted in-house at Kolari with a full-spectrum conversion. This is a dedicated IR rig, as I have a R5 and stable of lenses already. I chose their 720nm filter to start with; I plan to add others in the future.

After consulting the compatibility chart on their website (to make sure I was using lenses with little or no hot spots), I chose the EF-S 17-85mm. I also picked up a RF-S 10-18mm, but haven't used it yet.

The attached image is one of the first shots I took. Just a back yard shot to make sure everything worked right. I'm still learning how to edit IR images correctly.

Is Cambria Berwyn "too busy?"

First, I fully understand this is subjective. We're exploring what was supposed to be a light refresh that started with installing drawer pulls. It has now cascaded into cabinet refacing, countertops and backsplash, cabinet lighting, and probably a new sink.

After hours of looking at every slab of every material in town, I think we've narrowed down our quartz choice to two: Cambria Berwyn or Pendle Hill. Wife says Berwyn is pretty, but she's worried it'll be "too busy" and "might take focus off the cabinets." My argument is when you see more than a sample tile, it's less busy. Also, the stone should be more of the focus, the cabinetry less so.

Plans: Full spectrum vs dedicated IR wavelength

tl;dr - Am I making a mistake if I choose full spectrum over a dedicated IR conversion?

I dabbled in IR about 10 years ago with a Canon G7 (converted to SuperColor IR by Lifepixel), but my ADHD soon led me elsewhere. Now that my ADHD is somewhat controlled and I have progressed with my photography and editing, I'd like to get back into IR. I really like the high-contrast look of 720nm and 830nm, but might want to explore the other wavelengths, as well.

I'm heavily invested in my Canon gear for regular photography, but remembered I kept my dad's brand new Nikon Z7 when he passed away a few years ago. Rather than buy another camera to convert, I figure I'll get the Z7 converted as a dedicated IR rig via either Lifepixel or Kolari.

From what I'm reading, a FS conversion means I pop on a filter for whatever wavelength I choose and I get those results. Whereas if I have a 830nm conversion, there's no external filter, but I just get the 830nm effect. Please correct me if I'm mistaken.

Someone posted a link to a replacement reverse light mount and I was looking at them on the vendor site. I'm positive it was posted here or in r/lexusGX. I had to put my phone down for a moment and when I came back, I lost the post.

My Google-fu is weak, apparently, and Reddit's search . All I could find is Nytop and Oracle - neither of which were the ones I was interested in.

It was a dual-head design for Diode C1, Baja S1 or SL2. The outer lights were canted outward 20° I think it said. It was specifically for the 2009-2023 generation.

Anyone know what I'm talking about?

Pic for tax purposes and to prove it has touched dirt.

OK, so I didn't do anything that would get me kicked out and banned for life. But my wife dragged me to Ferguson Home to look at drawer pulls and for whatever reason they had smart toilets displayed in the same area.

I wish I'd been recording when my wife stepped in front of a motion-operated model and the lid went up. She leapt back like she saw a ghost.
