Tropical Vibes?

Hi guys,

Does this game have tropical, "on holiday" vibes?

I'm also a 30 year old man and have no issues at all with playing a game that is designed for women/girls, but is there anyway for anybody to express themselves or is it very pink dominated throughout?

P.S. Thanks for the answers so far everyone, but nobody has yet answered the first bit!

Physical exertion?

Hi guys,

Just curious how many of you suffer primarily with physical exertion. On a day to day basis if I'm just existing, walking, etc, I don't have any issues with my asthma. However, if I go and swim a few small lengths, my asthma definitely feels like it kicks in, and I can "breathe harder" for up to 20 minutes even after small amounts of exercise. Is this normal? I also have GERD which i know can cause issues. Anything that gets my heart rate up makes me feel like I have to take a deep breath every minute or so.

From Academic to ML Engineer?

Hi guys,

Would really appreciate some guidance here. I'm currently an academic at a UK university that is a little fed up of getting paid an absolute pittance whilst gradually deskilling from my PhD. I have a PhD in computational chemistry, and I have published in the machine learning space (e.g. a well cited review), but I'm certainly not an expert. I know the basics of Python and have a basic understanding of simple model types (e.g. regression types, clustering etc). If I wanted to transition from academic into an applied ML role, where should I start? How much of an uphill battle will I have, or will having an academic career (albeit early career, around 10 papers) help me?

Thanks all.

Where do you think might be suitable for us? Advice wanted!

Hi folks,

Me and my wife currently live in the UK and are based in the SW of England. I spent a period of my childhood growing up in Portugal, and since moving back to the UK in 2009, I've always wanted to move to a country with a slower pace of life, better access to the oceans/seas, and a better climate.

I'm a university lecturer and my wife is a secondary science teacher. I have a PhD in chemistry and would be OPEN to considering a change to industry instead of academia, and my wife would be happy to teach at a suitable/good international school. We also have a dog which we would, if possible, like to bring with us. Has anybody here moved from the UK to elsewhere and been glad with your decision? Do you think that I could be employable to an international school in some capacity?

Spain is the country that immediately jumps out to us... although I'm fluent in Portuguese, my understanding is that the salaries are so low over there, it really isn't possible to be comfortable, and I suspect it might be challenging for me to get a job there. I think that ultimately, we are open to moving to anywhere in the world, permitting we can achieve a lifestyle that is slower, we're close to the sea, and the weather is better. We really don't know where to start, and we'd appreciate any and all guidance on whether Spain might be a good idea, if there are any other countries that you think could be suitable, and any other practical advice when it comes to making this actually happen.

Thanks all!

Growing my Research - Guidance VERY much wanted!

Hi everyone,

I'm currently a Lecturer (Assistant Professor) at a post-92 university in the UK. I've been doing the job for nearly 4 years now, and since I started, I have only published a single first author review article that I wrote myself. I came straight into this job from my PhD, where I published 9 articles (4 first author) over the course of the 3 years.

As you can imagine, our teaching workloads are quite high because I'm in a post-92. Therefore, it can be really challenging to get my research moving. I have no PhD students (besides a co-supervision of a student that isn't in my reseach space), and the undergraduate students don't TEND to produce anything of publishable quality.

Thus, I have a few questions I'd really appreciate some guidance on:

  1. My field is computational chemistry, but I have a particular passion for a specific area of environmental science. How can I go about finding collaborators to work with and to contribute to larger scale projects that are separate from my university?
  2. What is the best strategy to ensure that I'm getting at least 1/2 publications a year?
  3. This is more of an "on the ground" question. When you have students writing their dissertations, do you know of a way that when you receive their work, you retain their citations/references from Mendeley so that you can continue working on the paper without needing to start another Mendeley library because your PC doesn't recognise their references in the Word document?
  4. I love research and I miss that feeling of pursuing something that I'm really interested in... it's hard when the teaching expectations are so high from October - May. Is this just something I have to live with if I work at a post-92?

Games with a Holiday/Summery/Tropical Vibe - Suggestions

Hi folks,

So it's summer and if you're anything like me, I'm living in the UK and very much wishing that I was living somewhere tropical, where I can snorkel, swim and surf for most of my day. I love games that give you that "tropical" vibe... for example, two games which gave me that feeling were AC: Black Flag and AC: Odyssey. Hello Kitty Island Adventures looks pretty cute (no shame for men playing this game!), if you've played it, does it have that vibe?

Would love any and all suggestions for games of this nature! If you think you've got a good suggestion, share it!

Getting started... guidance please!

Hi all,

Me and a buddy of mine bought the two-player starter kit yesterday (reduced to £5!) and we had an absolute blast playing the two decks (Ashoka vs Grievous).

We're no strangers to card games, but we are absolute strangers to this card game. Could I have some advice on getting started? I know there are currently less than 10 sets, and I'm sure the game is more complex that what the two-player set makes us think, but we're not really sure on the best way to get started.

Are all cards legal in the 50 card format? Is it worth picking up boosters boxes? We play a few other card games and often build decks based on successful online lists, but we quite like the idea of just buying cards/boxes and enjoying what we open, and trying to make our own decks work.

Any advice on getting started in 2026 would be very much appreciated!

Consultants - do you use them?

Hi everyone,

I'm a PhD level chemist that currently works at a UK university. I work broadly with chemical safety, and I've been debating starting my own consultancy. I'm not much of an entrepeneur as it's something I've just never really thought about until now.

Are there any people here that have small businesses that work with consultants? If so, how often do you work with consultants? If so, how much do you pay? Do you prefer a model which is "pay per day", or would you prefer to pay a retainer (e.g. £1k a month) and have access to the consultants expertise anytime throughout the month (e.g. Teams, e-mail, phone)?

Help with nostalgia deck... 2013 modern!

Hi everyone,

So, I'm a long-time MTG player who has very little expertise when it comes to EDH. I've always played constructed formats but have limited skills when it comes to building cohesive, well-put-together EDH decks.

I started playing MTG around 2013, and I'd really like to build a deck that essentially pays homage to some of my favourite MTG archetypes (e.g. Naya Zoo and Splinter Twin) and favourite creatures from when I first starting playing. In my mind, it's a deck that will essentially play a range of my favourite creatures, some of which I will list below to illustrate what might be included:

Noble Hierarch, Elvish Mystic, Restoration Angel, Qasali Pridemage, Kitchen Finks, Courser of Kruphix, Sylvan Caryatid, Knight of the Reliquary, Polukranos, Stormbreath Dragon, Wilt-Leaf Liege, Boros Reckoner, Aven Mindcensor..... and the list goes on.

Could I have some general guidance on building this deck? Would I best be suited playing a range of different overrun abilities as my win-con? For example, Overrun, Kamahl x2, Titanic Ultimatum etc?

What are some must haves in this deck? What should I be thinking about when building this deck?

Or, do I just jam 100 cards I like and lose all the time?

Would appreciate any and all guidance on this. Many thanks in advance!

Building decks - is it worth it?

Hi folks,

So I have a question as somebody quite new to the game. I've been watching a lot of DarkArmedDuelists deck profiles, and I notice that many of the decks he covers aren't "meta" or part of the main group of decks that seem popular at the moment.

Therefore, can these types of decks still compete? I've found a few deck cores that seem really cool (e.g. Swordsoul), so is it still worth putting decks together that I like the look of (e.g. from YGOPro)? Some decks on YGOPro seem quite affordable. Are these more for playing with mates?

Hi all,

So I started playing YGO about 3 years ago and if I remember correctly, ended up building a semi-competitive cyber dragon list using a combo of structure decks and singles. Me and my friend want to casually start playing again... what's the best way to learn how a deck plays? Best way to learn the rules? What are the core staples you need? Any and all advice wanted!
