Finally fully restored Sony TCS-310

I had to Frankenstein this together between 3 separate partially working units, but I finally was able to get one fully working! After a lot of trial and error figuring out which parts from which units were working properly, and fully soldering in and out each board, all of the functions are finally working as intended. The last bit was figuring out how to adjust the playback speed. I had a hard time finding any clear info regarding this, so I figured I would make a post for reference for anyone looking in the future (pictures for reference).

There are two adjustment points. One being a flat plastic screw on the plate covering the flywheel. The other being a small potentiometer [technically] accessable in the battery compartment bay. You do have to have the player apart partially to adjust the speed (unless you have the proper DC power plug in, which I don't) because the battery pack covers the adjustment pot.

Once the back panel is off you can rig up the battery contacts to the battery pack outside of the casing. The potentiometer there is the electrical speed adjustment. It's very small and delicate. I had to use the sharp end of a razor blade to adjust it because none of my flat heads were small or narrow enough to fit.

The plastic screw on the flywheel plate will adjust how much friction, or how "tight" the flywheel is. I had to go back and forth several times between the two before I hit the sweet spot in their adjustments to get the right speed.

I've had this thing apart and back together so many times, it's actually kind of crazy that it's all working now. It's a great looking sounding vintage player!

Mixtape/Bootleg Custom J Card love

One of the things I love about cassettes is the creation process. Making mixes or "bootlegs" and then creating a custom J Card for em. If it's an album that's difficult to find a reasonably priced vinyl/cassette of, I particularly like sourcing and recreating the artwork to fit onto a j card.

It'd be awesome to see other people's creations!

Rock/Metal/Punk Cassettes

I bought a lot of assorted cassettes, and these were in with them. I'm not overly familiar with/interested in any of these artists, but checking through discogs they seem to have some value. I'm less interested in getting "my money's worth" from them, but more would just like someone to get them that wants them. The ones in the picture out of a case do not have the proper j card/case for them.

DM me if you're interested! Reddit is telling me to add prices, so I'll add what discogs has them listed for generally. It is NOT what I'm looking for/expecting for them.

Shell Shock looks different than the Discogs entry. It might be a bootleg, I'm not sure. $45

Theloneous Monster $15

Ghost Story $35

Samhain $45

Fetchin Bones $15

Anthrax $10

Return of the Living Dead $45

Fully Obsessed (Again)

It has been a long time since I've been THIS obsessed with an album. It is one of the most solid albums from start to finish I've heard in years. Just an amazing journey. I've been going back through the Muse discography too and have gotten an even greater appreciation for especially the first 4 albums.

Modern cassette releases are awful...per usual...

I just got my copy of Metallica - Reload (Remastered) today and well...it'll sound fine for a stretch of about 30 seconds at most before drop-outs and such throughout the whole album so far. I expected it for the most part, it happened similarly with the Load Remastered release and ultimately every modern release (or re-release) I've ever gotten on cassette over the past 10 years.

At this point I've embraced it as supporting the format in hopes that things eventually improve, but I highly doubt it. It's also a cool collectable(ish) thing to have I suppose. I just really wish they didn't sound SO bad.

Just a rant...

User SeberHusky crash out

On a recent post about cleaning a moldy cassette, this guy started insulting everyone that disagreed with him and has now apparently deleted his account. I had seen he had a "1% Commenter" badge, and just found it so strange someone that frequented such a small, generally very friendly sub, would be so aggressive. His last message to me was telling me "I'm incredibly stupid and just a tourist here."

Anyways, I love this sub and I'm glad to see someone so hostile won't be tainting it anymore.

Why was my post deleted?

Looking computer hardware advice in regards to premiere, with the "computer hardware advice" tag and it gets deleted? Any reasoning?

Advice on PC Build vs a MacBook Pro (M3)

I recently got laid off and will be needing to return my work MacBook Pro M3 (36GB). I'm still going to be doing editing/production work on a contract/freelance basis, and am looking for the best path forward for my personal work station.

I currently have an AM4 based PC (Aorus Pro B450 board) with a Ryzen 5 3600, RTX 2070 Super, and 64gb ram. It looks like if I tried putting a 5950X in this system, it would likely be throttled by the boards power delivery, and a 5800X3D might be the best my board can work properly with. If I were to pair that with a 4070 Super Ti, would that meet or exceed what the M3 was doing for me with premiere workloads (4k multicam sequences)? Also I'm just a bit torn on spending what would look like 1-1.2k on this dated of a platform. But given how bad component prices are now, I'm not sure I could get away with spending less than double that if I try starting fresh on a new platform. My hope is to be able to edit at least as well as I was on the M3 with as minimal spending as possible.

tldr;
How would a 5800X3D, 4070 ti super, 64gb(ddr4) system compare to an M3 36GB MacBook Pro in 4k editing performance?

Awesome Dual Leech 2/20s I found

Just found (the first picture) the other day. Almost left them on the floor because my cube was full. I wish the LR would have rolled higher, but still very happy with them. The second picture is what I've been using, and will still keep around if I need some higher res

Revisiting Add Violence, This Isn't The Place appreciation

It's been a bit since I've listened to the EP trio. I wasn't in love with them when they came out, but still was really into a couple songs off of each one. Going back to them, I'm not sure how I missed how good they are, but This Isn't The Place stands out. It's interesting because the lyrics are so sparce, but I find myself relating to them on multiple levels now due to events that have happened to me since the EP was released. My father passing, and later feeling betrayed by who I considered my best friend at the time while my mother was passing/passed and I was getting married. I think because the lyrics are so sparce, it's easy to frame the feeling of them and the song around personal experiences. It's pretty incredible. (Sorry for trauma dumping haha. I wasn't expecting to when I started the post)

CATES - ORIGINALS Demo Tape (80s Synth/Pop?)

About a year ago I acquired a lot of roughly 50 used blank cassettes. The majority of them were Maxell and TDK Type IIs with various major release songs recorded onto them, nothing of any particular note. In that bundle of cassettes there was a handful of "other" brand cassettes that I didn't pay much attention, including this LASER XL60. I didn't bother to look at it closer until yesterday when I was going through all of the "other" tapes, rewinding them if they weren't rewound, and listening to random bits to see what was on them. They were all pretty much what you would expect, various country radio recordings, some Elvis Christmas, and then I popped this one in and heard what was clearly a personal recording of someone's songs.

I tried searching the lyrics of the songs and came up with nothing. I figured I would post it here to see anyone might have any idea if it's any known person or even possibly could find the person that recorded it (I doubt it, but you never know)

I'm assuming these are pretty hard to come by, given how little I can actually find about them. These images are from "UK Audio Mart" and were sold 4 years ago. I checked ebay and I couldn't find anything even under completed listings. Any advice or maybe alternate names this card could be called that could help in finding one?

I found a good deal on a handful of these still sealed, after having great experience with other Scotch tapes (I have a Type I Master 120, and it's one of the best Type I recordings I've made/heard) I thought I would give these a try. They sound...bad... I'm pretty forgiving with the sound of cassettes, I don't expect them to sound perfect, but the recording on this one was extremely lacking of range, both high and low. Were these intended to just be used for budget voice recording? It doesn't sound noisy, like a damaged tape would, just all around lacking in range and fidelity.
