Big update on TRDB - new features live now!

Hi everyone, I'm Dan, admin of theretrodb.com a site dedicated to indexing information on all things retro and helping you find ways to watch that classic media.

We've been properly up and running for a couple of months now. It's been a wild ride, but one I've loved every second of, and it seems to have landed with you all. We're now at over 540 registered users, with people in every day watching the content on the site and joining in on the live chat that comes with our live TV channels.

We really are very thankful to everyone. Like I've said from day one, we're always looking at ways to improve and make the site better, and to add any features we think you might like or need along your retro journey. We've been updating the site constantly, and the update we just pushed has some brilliant stuff in it.

WHAT'S NEW ON THE SITE

  1. **Search from anywhere** - There's a search box in the header now, on every page. Start typing and matches come up as you go films, shows and games all together. No more going back to the home page first.
  2. **Trending** - A new page showing what people are actually looking at right now. Link's in the footer, and there's a row of it on the home page.
  3. **Continue watching** - Start something and don't finish it, and it'll show up on your feed so you can jump back in. On our own player it picks up right where you stopped. Shows have a full episode list now too, so you can tick off the ones you've seen.
  4. **Rate stuff** - You can give any film, show or game a score out of 10. It sits on the title page. Once enough people have voted, the average shows up for everyone.
  5. **You'll actually hear about friend requests** - Before, a request just sat there and you'd only find it if you went looking. Now you get a message and a little number in the corner.
  6. **New videos on your list** - Saved something with nothing to watch yet? When a video gets added, we'll tell you. One message an hour at most, so it won't spam you.

The watch history and the alerts can both be turned off in your profile settings if they're not for you.

**COMING NEXT - THE ANDROID APP**

I'd also like to officially announce that we've started development on an Android app for the site. It'll run on everything from phones to Android TV boxes, with full touch and D-pad navigation.

Again, we'd like to thank you all for joining us on this journey, and we hope to see you and all your friends and family online soon!

Retro Restore | Video Restoration by TRDB

Hi everyone,

Some of you might already know us and some of you might not. We are The Retro Database (TRDB), theretrodb.com

We're a website focused on all kinds of retro media, from movies and TV shows to video games. We index as much information as we can find across all the different types of retro media.

Where possible, we also link to free streaming sources such as YouTube, Internet Archive, Dailymotion and others.

On top of that, you can create your own media lists, keep track of what you physically own, what you're still looking for, and see your collection progress with an ownership percentage. Every member gets their own public profile where you can show off your lists, friends, and any contributions you've made to the site.

Once you join, you can add friends, send private messages, watch our live TV channels, and chat with other members in the live channel chat. We're trying to build a proper retro community, not just another database.

Today we're introducing Retro Restore.

Retro Restore is a restoration and upscaling tool built for old media, especially cartoons and anime.

It's completely free to use with no registration required. Everything runs directly in your browser. Nothing is uploaded to our servers and nothing is downloaded from them. Your files stay on your own machine throughout the whole process.

The project is based on the open source project:
https://github.com/sb2702/free-ai-video-upscaler

We've made a lot of changes, with one of the biggest being a complete redesign of the interface. Rather than looking like a basic web page, it now feels much more like a proper desktop application, similar to tools like Topaz and others.

Under the hood we've also made quite a few changes to improve both stability and performance. One of the biggest improvements is how videos are processed. Instead of loading the entire file into memory like the original project, our version processes videos in smaller chunks. This keeps memory usage much lower, meaning you don't need a huge amount of RAM and much larger videos can be processed without crashing. Hopefully anyway!

We've also expanded the models available. During testing we found the original restoration models often gave better results for animated content than the standard upscaling models, so we've included those as separate options instead of replacing them.

You can also choose your output scale of 1x, 2x, 4x or 8x. If you try to use 8x on anything above 360p, we'll give you a warning as the final file size can become very large.

We've also added encoding quality options, letting you decide whether you want to prioritise image quality or a smaller file size.

We're really proud of the improvements we've made. Not only is the tool much nicer to use, but it's also noticeably faster. Our 26 minute test video completed a full restoration run in around 2 minutes.

We hope fellow retro fans find it useful and give it a try. If you enjoy it, we'd also love for you to have a look around the rest of The Retro Database. We're working hard to build a place where retro fans can find everything they need in one easy to use website.

Revenue Projections? what do you think ?

So when i built my site i made sure to build in proper profesional analatics and tracking.

as can be seen by the images shown i am able to see where my traffic is coming from based on the county / device / os / browser and refere.

I can also track what pages / content is most popular on the site how long each person stays on a page the outbound clicks the bounce rate everything i could think of i also have google analatics connected as well just so i can confirm everything is accurate and it is.

For today alone we have

  • Pageviews : 1.2k (−10.6%) on yesterday
  • Visitors : 422 (−13.7%) on yesterday
  • Sessions : 447 (−16.8%) on yesterday
  • Engagement rate : 59.7% (−2.3 pts) on yesterday
  • Bounce rate : 10.3% (+2.1 pts) on yesterday
  • Outbound clicks : 23 (−20.7%) on yesterday
  • Views / session : 2.61

As you can see by the image below Most of my audience for today has come from the us on desktop / mobile and most of it is genuine direct traffic or from search / social.

if i could get accepted by adsense what do you think i could be making a day from them ? if not adsense do you know any other networks that would accept my site ?

we do embed streaming videos but its content from youtube / archive / daily motion.

AdSense Reactivation

Hi so I had AdSense before and it was going good I had a few payouts from my old vlog maybe about £200-300 per payment around 5 payments in total before I had to close due to medical issues.

I have started 2 new websites and reactivated the AdSense but both websites have been rejected 3x each!

One of them is just a blog about tech and stuff there is around 26 blog posts all original with original images using wordpress it has full copyright / policy pages and stuff that's about it

The other is the site listed in my username on here the site has a hell of a lot of content now the content is not 100% unique we do index details on movies and TV shows from TMDB and we index Game information from the game database but we also add to that content

Such as for movies we add Movie quotes and trivia and for TV shows we add facts and trivia.

We do have links to video content on the site as well for movies and shows but all this content is from public places such as archive.org and even googles own YouTube platform a lot of the time from official channels.

We also have blogs on this website most of the blog posts have been created by me and another user!

For video games we have started adding cheat codes to the indexed content to flesh it out

The site also has a fair bit of user interaction such as being able to create there own media lists and track physical ownership

Find and add friends with a public profile as well as community statistics live chat rooms for members and other things

We keep getting "Low Value Content" for both sites even I have checked using Google analytics and search console and we have had 8000+ impressions so far we have been open for less than 30 days on the current ads we use adsterra we have had over 600 clicks we have a 50%+ engagement rate with each user spending on average 60s+ per page.

Does anyone have any tips or anything for getting accepted as right now the sites are costing me about $600 a month to run and am making less than $5 so far from the current ads

We currently have

Banners

Smark links

Social notifications

From adsterra and

Preroll videos

Preroll banners

From hilltopads

Both site are well optimised for Google and ai indexing scoring high on Google own tools and they are fully responsive from mobile to 60" screens I have personally tested and users

( TRDB ) The BIG Retro Update!

This is a small update so folk can see what’s actually been added to the site.

We’ve brought in three curators now who are actively helping find and add new content. That’s been a big shift for us. It means I’m not buried in every single addition anymore, so I can focus properly on fixing bugs, improving features, and building the next parts of the platform instead of just keeping it afloat day to day. So aye, genuine thanks to them. It makes a difference more than I can properly explain in a single post.

Right, onto the actual update.

We’re now running 14 live channels. That includes a mix of our own curated streams alongside real broadcast channels like POP UK, Tiny Pop UK, Cartoon Network USA, and Nickelodeon USA.

Everything comes with full 24-hour EPG data, so you’re not guessing what’s on or when it’s on. It’s all laid out properly.

On top of that, the library has grown into something a bit ridiculous in size. Over 1,400 films available and more than 40,000 TV episodes. It’s the kind of number that stops making sense after a while. There’s more content in there than most people could realistically get through in years, and it’s still being added to constantly.

We’re also opening things up a bit more.

If you’re into movies and TV, especially retro stuff, we’re looking for people who want to write blog posts for the site. We’re also after contributors who can help add trivia, facts, quotes, and even game cheats where it fits. The idea is simple. Build a proper living database instead of just a static catalogue.

So if you’re into old TV, films you forgot existed, weird trivia rabbit holes, and all that sort of thing, you’ll fit right in.

The Retro Database, TRDB.

1K+ Movies • 40K+ Episodes • 13 Live Channels • 100% Free

Hi everyone,

Just a smaller update for you all.

We're almost at 300 registered users. At the time of writing we're sitting at 295 members, which is honestly amazing to see. Thanks to everyone who's joined, contributed, and helped spread the word.

To celebrate getting so close to the milestone, I've added a few new live TV channels to the site. Every one includes full EPG information and its own live chat.

New channels:

  • Cartoon Network (USA)
  • Nickelodeon (USA)
  • PBS Kids EST (USA)
  • POP (UK)
  • Tiny Pop (UK)

These are modern HD live channels that sit alongside our custom-built retro channels, giving everyone even more to watch.

The site has also continued to grow at a crazy pace.

Current playable content:

Movies

  • 1,466 playable embedded movies
  • From a database of 2,309 indexed movies

TV Shows

  • 40,828 playable embedded episodes
  • Across 1,163 indexed TV series

That means well over 50% of every movie indexed on the site can now be watched directly without leaving TRDB, and that number continues to grow every week.

From day one I've tried to focus on making the platform simple to use while packing it with features that retro fans actually want. If you've been using the site, I'd genuinely love to hear what you think. Good or bad, all feedback helps improve it.

If you're enjoying the platform, the biggest favour you can do is simply keep using it and share it with anyone else who loves retro TV, movies and games.

As always, I'm happy to consider new ideas and feature requests. If it fits the platform and adds value for everyone, I'll do my best to build it.

A free account already gives you access to far more than just streaming.

You can:

  • Watch thousands of on-demand movies and TV episodes.
  • Watch 13 live TV channels with live chat.
  • Add and manage friends.
  • Send private messages.
  • Create your own movie, TV show and game lists.
  • Track the physical movies, shows and games you own and see your collection progress.
  • Write your own blog posts and comment on other members' posts.
  • Choose an avatar from our growing collection of retro characters.
  • Submit facts and trivia about movies, TV shows and games.
  • Submit streaming links through our guided submission system.
  • Build your reputation by contributing content, facts, blogs and media that become part of the community.

The goal has always been simple: build one place where retro fans can watch, discover, collect and talk about the things they love.

If you haven't joined the site yet, now's the perfect time. Registration is completely free and gives you access to thousands of playable movies and TV episodes, 13 live TV channels, community features, and everything else the platform has to offer.

Miss the days of channel surfing, Saturday morning cartoons, video shops and discovering something new to watch?

I built The Retro Database for people who still love retro TV, movies and games.

It is all in one place: a site made by one retro fan for other retro fans. You can browse, watch, contribute and build your own little corner of nostalgia.

Right now, the site has:

  • 40,513 TV episodes
  • 1,006 movies
  • 8 live 24/7 channels playing retro content around the clock
  • Information indexed for 1,150 TV shows, 969 games and 2,054 movies

Every title can include release dates, cast information, facts, quotes and more.

You can watch retro media, submit content to build your reputation, add other members as friends, write blog posts about the films or shows you grew up with, and make lists of your favourite movies, TV shows and games.

You can even track how much of a movie, show or game collection you currently own.

Whether you grew up with ’80s classics, ’90s cartoons, early-2000s TV or old-school gaming, the goal is simple: make a place where people can rediscover the stuff they loved and share it with others who get it.

Staff "Curators" Wanted for (TRDB)

We’re looking for a few retro movie, TV and game fans to help us build up the site.

You do not need to be a developer, but you will need to know how to load an unpacked Chrome extension, as we use a few semi-automated tools to make adding content much easier.

Each curator gets their own API key and can:

  • Import YouTube videos as embeds or redirect links, with automatic detection.
  • Import Archive.org videos as embeds, also with automatic detection.
  • Add MP4 or M3U8 video sources manually, with the player embed built automatically.
  • Import movies and TV shows from TMDB that are not already on the site.
  • Import games from TheGamesDB that have not already been added.

Basically, we are just looking for people who enjoy retro stuff and fancy helping us fill the site with more great movies, shows, games and videos.

Message below if you would like to join, or come say hello in the Discord: TRDB - DISCORD

24,000+ retro TV episodes you can actually watch, plus 8 channels broadcasting 24/7 all free

Hey r/RetroTVRevival,

This sub is basically my people, so I wanted to share something I've been working on: The Retro Database (TRDB) a free archive for retro movies, TV, and games from 2015 and earlier.

The part I think folks here will actually care about: it's not just a list of titles, it pulls together streams for stuff that already lives on public platforms like YouTube and Archive.org, so you can just watch. Right now that's:

  • 24,000+ TV episodes you can stream
  • 300+ movies you can stream
  • 8 channels broadcasting 24/7 — turn one on and let it run, like actual retro TV

On the database side it's at roughly 1,900 movies, 970 TV shows, and 970 games indexed across a bunch of consoles, and it's growing.

A few other things that exist if you want more than just watching:

  • Friends + private messages between members (you can keep your friends list public or hidden)
  • Submissions - blog posts, movie/TV trivia, game facts, and video links. Everything you submit gets credited on your public profile, so you build up a track record of contributions. It's all admin-checked before it goes live.
  • My Lists (just added) - make your own lists of movies/shows/games, and mark things as owned if you have the physical copy. Your profile can show an "owned %" so you can track how close you are to completing a collection. You can keep lists private, or show the lists but hide what you own - whatever you're comfortable with.

It's 100% free, no paywall, no account needed to browse and watch. I'm mostly posting because I'd genuinely like feedback from people who care about this stuff what's missing, what shows you'd want added, what's broken.

Happy to answer anything in the comments.

Is the archive slowly dying?

As the title says, do you think the Internet Archive is slowly dying?

Over the past year or so, I have been encountering the

“Unable to load metadata from item location”

error more and more frequently.

I have also noticed an increase in general site errors and much slower loading times. Uploading through the web interface has become especially problematic. I have been trying to upload files for days, but the process just gets stuck on

“Checking identifier”

for hours or even days.

At this point, it is becoming almost impossible for me to upload, find, or watch content.

What's the one old movie or show you'd defend to the death? I'm building a place to write about exactly that.

Quick one. I always wished there was a spot to write about the retro films, shows, and games that actually shaped me, not just look up the facts but say why they mattered. So I made one: theretrodb.com.

It's part database, part blog, part video platform. You can browse old stuff, watch shows and movies even tune in to some live TV or you can sign up and write a post about a favourite. Doesn't need to be long. A scrappy, heartfelt few hundred words about why you loved something beats a Wikipedia summary every time.

But forget the link for a sec, I'm genuinely curious: what's the one retro movie or show you'd go to bat for, even if nobody else remembers it? Drop it below.

Help Us Build TRDB: The Retro Database

Are you passionate about retro TV, classic movies, forgotten gems, cult favourites, nostalgic cartoons, old-school documentaries, and the kind of entertainment that defined generations?

TRDB - The Retro Database is looking for dedicated content curators to help us grow our archive and fill in the missing videos across the site.

Our goal is simple: to build one of the most complete retro entertainment databases online, covering movies and TV shows from the 1980s through to 2015. We already have over 300 movies and more than 10,000 TV episodes listed, but there is still so much more to find, organise, and preserve for retro fans everywhere.

What We’re Looking For

We are looking for people who genuinely love retro TV and movies, and who either know where to find publicly available content or are willing to search for it.

This could include content hosted on platforms such as:

YouTube, Dailymotion, Archive.org, and other online sources.

Curators will help locate missing videos and add them to TRDB so that visitors can easily discover and enjoy the shows and films they remember or discover something completely new from the past.

What Curators Get

Successful applicants will receive a custom “Curator” user role on the TRDB website.

Curators will also receive access to our exclusive Chrome extension, which has been designed to make importing content faster and easier see the above video.

The extension can automatically import content from supported platforms, including YouTube, Dailymotion, Archive.org, and other sources. Where possible, content can be imported as an embedded video, which is the recommended option. In cases where embedding is not allowed such as some YouTube videos, age-restricted content, or videos with embedding disabled curators may instead add the content as a redirect link.

Every import made through a curator account will be listed under that curator’s username, meaning your contributions will count towards your website statistics and help show the work you have put into growing the database.

About the Curator Extension

Applicants should be comfortable installing a Chrome extension manually using Developer Mode.

Our extension uses Manifest V3, meaning it works with the latest versions of Chrome and other Chromium-based browsers. While Chrome is supported, we also recommend browsers such as Opera or Vivaldi, as they include built-in ad-blocking features that can make the searching and importing process smoother.

The extension also allows curators to import movies or TV shows directly from TMDB if they are not already listed on TRDB without needing to leave the extension.

Curator Rules

To keep TRDB focused, safe, and useful for retro fans, all curators must follow a few important rules.

Only content from 2015 or earlier should be imported. Anything newer than 2015 is outside the scope of TRDB.

Curators must not abuse the extension, spam imports, or add unsuitable content.

Pornographic material is strictly not allowed. Adult comedy or mature-rated mainstream films, such as titles similar to American Pie, are acceptable where appropriate, but straight-up adult films or pornographic content must not be imported.

Any curator found breaking these rules will have their Curator status removed. This will also disable their API key and remove access to the Chrome extension.

Help Us Preserve Retro Entertainment

TRDB is being built for people who love nostalgia, forgotten classics, cult TV, old movies, and the strange, brilliant, memorable content that shaped pop culture across decades.

Whether you grew up watching 80s action movies, 90s cartoons, early 2000s sitcoms, classic horror, vintage sci-fi, or hidden TV gems from the past, your knowledge could help make TRDB better for everyone.

If you would like to apply to become a TRDB Curator, comment below on this post and we will send you a DM with more information.

Help us build the ultimate retro database one movie, one episode, and one forgotten classic at a time.

TRDB - Blog System Update

We’re excited to announce that we have added a new blog system to TheRetroDB.com.

Registered users can now create public blog posts about their favourite retro movies, TV shows, and games. Each post can include a title, cover image, category, and a full content body using HTML or Markdown formatting.

Blog posts are publicly viewable by both members and non-members. They are also attributed to the original author and will appear as part of that user’s public profile submissions.

We invite all registered users to start creating blog posts about the games, movies, and TV shows they love, miss, remember fondly, or are still trying to find. This is a great way to share memories, recommendations, reviews, stories, and discoveries with the wider RetroDB community.

Please make sure your blog posts are meaningful and well-written. One-line or low-effort posts may not be accepted. A good blog post should include a relevant cover image and a proper main content body.

All blog posts will go through admin approval before being published. Posts that appear to be 100% AI-generated, spammy, unrelated, or low quality may be declined automatically or by an admin.

Please only create blog posts about games, movies, or TV shows. Posts about unrelated topics will not be approved.

Start sharing the retro content you love with the community today at TheRetroDB.com.

TRDB - Messaging System update

We have added a new member-to-member messaging system to the site in our latest update.

You can now choose who is allowed to message you: everyone or friends only. You can also block specific users if needed.

Messages are private between two users and cannot be viewed by anyone else, including site admins, unless a chat is reported. If a chat is reported, site admins may access the conversation solely for moderation purposes. This allows us to review the issue and, where necessary, remove a user’s messaging privileges or ban their account.

The messaging system will also be used by the platform to notify you when your submissions have been accepted or declined. If a submission is declined, you will receive a reason from the admin who reviewed it. You are welcome to resubmit your content if the issue can be corrected.

Please do not share email addresses or phone numbers through the chat system. We do have filters in place to help prevent this, but we cannot guarantee that every occurrence will be detected. For your safety, avoid sharing personal contact information in private messages.

The member messaging system is now live. If you have the page open, new messages will appear instantly. If you are not currently viewing the page, you will see a notification bubble on your avatar in the top-right navigation header.
