5 years later and I’m still mad at my older Sibling

Five years ago, when I was 17, my life changed completely.

My paternal half-brother, Jason, left our home and took with him employees, equipment, and clients from my father’s contracting business—the business my father had built for decades.

Everything we relied on started falling apart after that.

My father was already older, he was 72 at the time (now 77) and after what happened, his life changed drastically. He lost the business that defined him for most of his life, and now he lives alone in much poorer conditions than before. I’ve seen how deeply it affected him. He even cries sometimes over simple things, like doing laundry, because it reminds him of the life he used to have.

My mother also changed. The loss and the stress took a toll on her confidence and emotional stability. We were not rich, but we used to live comfortably within our means, and after everything happened, that stability was gone.

At 17, I had to grow up fast. I stopped my studies and started working to help my family. I wanted to keep our home. I wanted to keep things from falling apart. But eventually, we couldn’t afford it anymore, and we had to let go of the house. Before I moved for work, we even had to sell some of our belongings just to get by.

That period changed me. I was supposed to be focused on school and my future, but instead I was focused on survival and helping my family.

Even years later, I still carry a lot of anger and grief about what happened. I tried reaching out to Jason once when I started a new job and asked for a small amount of help, but he didn’t respond. I was deeply hurt and angry. I even told him I hoped his daughter would never go through what I went through, because I wouldn’t wish that experience on anyone.

Now, I hear that he is doing well financially—cars, houses, stability—while my family is still dealing with the consequences of what happened. That makes it very hard for me to move on. I feel stuck in what happened, even after all this time.

I love my parents deeply. I hate seeing what this has done to them. And I think a part of me is still carrying all of that pain, anger, and grief, even while I try to work and build my own life.

Sometimes I feel like I buried everything just to survive, and when I’m alone, all of it comes back and I feel overwhelmed.

And I don’t know how to let go of something that changed my life so much.

Note: I ranted to chatgpt and asked it to summarize it. English is not my first language and I’d love to hear perspective, too, from people outside my pain.

22F, Youngest on the floor and suffering from people pleasing after being bullied. Help?

Hi,

I’m the youngest on our floor and I don’t really know how to work with my coworkers. I’m generally quiet but I would always greet them if I can but I’d still hear them telling me I’m a bitch.

Average age in the office is around 35.

I’ve been bullied as well for performing really well in the past because of an unfair schedule, I’d close sales everytime a customer calls in.

The problem is… I don’t know how to say no to my coworkers because they’re really old and out of respect, I’d somehow obey them?

Example, I didn’t take my free lunch and they’ll ask for it. Since we’re different schedules, I’d inconvenience myself just to give them my lunch.

Help huhu? I’m quite new to this stuff and it’s killing my soul.
