Jemma vs Gemma?
I rly like the name Gemma but today I thought about doing Jules for the middle name, after my mom’s nickname.
I love the alliteration Jemma Jules
But I prefer the spelling Gemma. Gemma is a little more traditional spelling. It feels really sparkly.
On the the other hand if it was Jemma Jules she could be called jj as a nickname. So good. But is Jemma a little too creative? It feels a little more homey.
Worried about my brother
I love my 20 yr old brother a lot but lately I’ve been worried about him. I understand that there is only so much I can do because change has to come from within but I find myself plotting to fix him so I’m seeking practical advice
Here are the main areas of concern:
He is really into raves and i understand that a little experimentation is normal but he thinks he’s invincible. He’s got a mental list of drugs he wants to try and I’m worried that it’s only a matter of time before he gets hooked on smth. It started with some edibles and psychedelics but its expanded to lsd and Molly. He says he’s being safe and using “the three month rule” but it’s become a hyper fixation. I’m worried he will eventually try hard drugs and ruin his life.
He’s not treating his gf right and If he doesn’t step up his game he’s going to fumble. Luckily for my brother got a lot of the good genes so he was able to get a very cool gf. I really like her but he’s not treating her very well. He is just a bit inconsiderate and emotionally unavailable. At our family reunion he ditched her for hours on end. He was chatting with his old friend while his gf sat by herself. I went over and talked to her but she seemed really down. My brother is on the spectrum and his emotional intelligence isn’t great. I know it’s not my place to intervene but I don’t think my brother realizes when he’s being inconsiderate.
By being inconsiderate and irresponsible he’s lost a lot of my parents trust. He has no concept of rules and sort of just does whatever he wants. Luckily he’s really smart so he flies through his college courses and has a full ride scholarship but sometimes he comes off as a really spoiled nepo baby who’s never had to do anything difficult in his life.
I wish I could wake him up before he has a rude awakening, but sometimes I worried that he’ll end up as an abusive bf, or delinquent, or drug addict. Or dead.
I lost my wristband
I was worried my wristband would be annoying so I put it on loose
Got home and it was gone, I’m physically ill I need to see Haley Williams HELP
Will they give me a new one? Or should I just buy another now? someone console me
Update: omg I found it on my dresser I was high and didn’t remember putting it there, just registered it
This morning I missed a zoom meeting because I had headphones on listening to work project. It’s a weekly meeting that is pushed back or rescheduled more often than not. I got the email with the zoom link 5min before the meeting took place. But I was already hyper fixated on my project, not checking my emails.
My boss called me but i missed his call. I miss his calls all the time because I’m working on things and can’t hear my phone. I’ve tried vibrate but I miss calls that way too. I usually call him back within 30 min but by the time I saw his calls today, I was 20min late for the zoom meeting and it was over
It feels horrible and really shakes me up when I mess up like this. Even though this meeting wasn’t especially important. It makes me lose my bosses trust. I lose trust in myself too.
I would miss less calls if my phone were connected to my work computer but I don’t really want my tech savvy coworkers to have access to my entire phone. Seems like I should keep my phone separate. My coworker can remote control my computer through splashtop when necessary (I have to send him the code though). I’m not sure what he can see or what he has access too but It does make me worried about connecting so much personal info of my phone to my work computer. And yet I’m also feeling willing to do whatever it takes to stop missing calls from my boss. It’s a terrible feeling
I work remotely and really like my job even though it doesn’t pay much or have good benefits.
Recently I’ve been wanting to get a new job with better pay, more vacation days, health insurance.
But the biggest thing holding me back is my lack of confidence that I am a good employee. I work really hard, I’m creative and skilled in motion graphics and editing.
But my biggest flaw is that I hyper fixate on projects sometimes to the point of not answering my phone when my boss calls and missing zoom meetings.
Usually I have my headphones on, loudly listening to the project I’m working on and I don’t hear his call. But I usually get back to him within 30min. Today I had a zoom meeting at 10am. These staff meetings are supposed to be every Friday but more often than not, they are rescheduled. So I wasn’t expecting it to actually happen. I got the email notification at 9:56 and when I didn’t get on my boss called and I didn’t answer. 20 min later I hoped on the meeting but it was over. I felt really shaken up and disappointed with myself.
I don’t miss zoom meetings very often when they are scheduled in advance, maybe a few every year. But when they are unexpected, it’s so hard for me to keep checking my phone when I’m working on a project. Checking my phone is such a distraction but as a remote employee, they need to get ahold of me.
Edit: I’ve tried connecting my iphone to my desktop computer but it’s not working, I think it’s because there is a blocker since it’s a company computer. It would also be unideal to connect them because I wouldn’t love for my company to have access to my phone but I’m willing to do whatever it takes.
I would open the zoom meetings and put them in the background so I’d be on it no matter if it happened or not but like I said I don’t get the link until 5 minutes before it happens. And it doesn’t always happen at the same time. It’s awful
Also, I swear iPhones don’t always ring. When I miss my bosses call, i don’t feel it, don’t hear it. If you have this problem how did you fix it in settings?
Update: I posted a similar post in remote work bc I wanted to know if other remote workers connected their phones to their work computers to avoid this problem. I got a lot of really good solutions there that weren’t just “use outlook” lol. The best two solutions imo (for others who have this same issue). 1. Apple Watch or 2. use Bluetooth headphones to connect to a computer and phone at once. 2. Is the obvious solution for me. I can’t be the only one who didn’t know my Bluetooth headphones could connect to two devices at once. I think this will be a game changer
