Found a cool Square Coin that I have never seen before!

Hit the usual spots. Shredded dimes (a few had that silver-toned look, but nope) and mutilated pennies…err, cents, whatever…

Then, at a spot that rarely hits-several cool foreigns! According to The Googles, grabbed some Caribbean sizzlers, a Chilean peso that was polished with a granite file, apparently and several slick Canucks.

Great Treasures abound!

There are tons of fantastic treasures shared on this sub and I really enjoy the interactions here. My humble treasures were plentiful this week!

Went on a beach trip with the wife and kids. Spent the mornings checking the plentiful Coinstars in the area while the family slept in. Found some great grabs (including a silver Roosevelt under one machine!)

Got my 1st Mayflower quarter in change from CVS.

Had to pick up daily beach drinks at package stores, since state laws prohibit sales at grocery stores, I guess(?) Fortunately, they were literally next door to each store with a CoinStar. Chatted up the proprietors about coins and ended up “buying” the change from a few tip jars.
One really cool guy ended up being a “coin guy” too and sold me the $1.50 in change (including my 2nd & 3rd Mayflower quarters, AND a silver quarter for $5!!!)

I said, “here’s $10 for the quarter and $1.50 for the change” & he was like, “nah, man, just give me $5!” I was blown away!
Before I left, all aflutter, he actually said, “hang on, lemme go grab you something else,” and came back with a cool little 250th commemorative Challenge Coin! Super nice guy! When I checked the change back at the condo, he had even slipped a war nickel in my change!
He would definitely fit into this sub.

Final treasure-(sorry to go on and on, but dang, it was a great week!)
I LOVE the “quarters pushing” arcade game They are pretty much gone from the boardwalk arcades. Stumbled upon one in a hotdog shop near a pier and pushed a handful of change in the slot. One was a 2011 Gettysburg P that we needed for our book!

Got home tonight, plugged it in the book and had to share.

Keep being awesome, DFTs!

Finally got a new Mayflower Quarter!

I have been finding the new nickels in the wild for months and scored a roll of new dimes at my bank about three weeks ago. Heck, I even got a new dime from CoinStar rejects last week (initially bought it was a foreign!)

The new quarters have been elusive…until today!

I was chit-chatting with the cashier at CVS about coins and asked if he had anything cool in his till that I could buy from him while my wife was stacking coupons in the self-checkout. He was cordial, but declined my offer.

My wife paid cash for her last items and then said, “Here’s something for you!”

Bang‼️

It looks kinda weird to me, I’ve finally caught my first one! Now I just need to find the others…

Guess I’ve got Good Luck from Here on Out!

It woulda been better luck if that sixties dime was a little older….but hey, I’ll take it!

Finally saw a Stack of Rejects!

Avid hunter, but this is the biggest stack I have seen in the bin.
(I even thought to take a pic to share the excitement!)

Ended up being the nastiest, goop-covered pennies (and a few dimes,) stuck together with yellow, black, and blue goo ranging from viscous to solid permabond.

Gave it a 91% alcohol and Dawn dish soap spa overnight and still had to use a pick to separate a few.

Under a buck, but I did get a few wheats that looked pretty cool.

Back in tha Groove!

It’s been a few dry weeks and I have been pretty grumpy about it. My schedule has changed and I haven’t been hitting on much lately.

That’s the joy of the hunt, I guess.

Went to my first regular stop and hit a single foreign coin, (Cuban Peso? That’s cool!) then hit a single foreign on my second. My third stop, to reject bin was packed, a bunch of cool foreign and some spendables!

(There was even an appearance of Sir Charles Edward Fromage.)

I’m back, Bebé🤣
Y’all have fun out there!!

Getting More Common?

Working on the National Parks and Women quarters books with my teens, so I grabbed three rolls of quarters from three different Publix during my CoinStar run today.

(I like to grab some Loomis rolls without buying a whole box and there’s a local jerkface CRH who likes to short CWRs with Bahamian quarters, cents in dime rolls, and other annoying things.)

Anyhoo, first roll has TWO CENTS INSTEAD OF QUARTERS! So irritating. They weren’t even cool (an 84 and a modern shield). But then, I did find a replacement/less shredded Denver Guam for our book and an S Wyoming clad (not in our book:only P, D, & W).
To keep it positive, hey, I got an S Proof for 48¢. Yay?

I guess MWRs are just as shady. Anybody else get shorted on the reg, or am I just in a rut?

$140 in Quarters

Grabbed someone’s rewraps at my local bank. I’ve seen this dude’s work before: he loves to drop Bahamian dollars into rolls, which was cool at first, but now it’s somewhat annoying. He’s also put a dime in a penny roll, and I was like, “Hey, profit!” when in fact, it was to sub for two nickels to complete the roll.
This time around, I was excited to see a weird coin in the sideview, only to find a 2021 nickel.

Not cool, bruh!

Anyway, kept some nice 2021 CtDs, 6 bicentennials and still found a few Denver coins for the State Parks book: 2011 Washington & Oklahoma, an upgraded 2013 Ohio to swap out, and a massacred 2019 Guam to fill the spot (for now.)

Towards the end, even found a thrashed 2015 Louisiana S (clad). No spot in our map book, but it’s a keeper for me!

It’s good to find cool stuff in other people’s rejects. This many keepers from 14 rolls is a good percentage for me!

$1000 Halves Results

Took my time on the first box, nothing was hitting. Found a ton of 2023s (re-rolled and dumped). Found two NIFCs (‘04 & ‘06). Kept about five rolls of bicentennials, even after rewrapping almost a full roll of cooked/sharpied ones (not a fan, “MP,” whoever you are!) Found some clean circulated coins to replace some of our 1971-present book. Kept some fresh ‘21s,22s, & ‘25s.
Progress-Yay.
Second box started with much of the same, but then started hitting on NIFCs. About 3/4 of the way through found my first commemorative (an ‘86 Liberty S) followed by a frosty ‘79 and ‘92! 💥
Closed out the box with a cool, gold-toned ‘79.
Also kept a few chin-checked Jacks!

Fun stuff.
Good luck, all!

Rojo Red’s Carwash!

Everybody wants silver (me, too!) but I do appreciate a good novelty find.
Haven’t grabbed a “handful” in quite some time, so it was exhilarating to see a huge stack of something in the reject bin.
I always scoop it out and make a quick, slick getaway to peruse the booty in my car. Could be gold doubloons! Lo, it was not.

Did score a Sacagawea dollar in the pile, so I guess it kinda was!!

I have always said, “I would NEVER pay for a coin!” until I started lurking on Reddit.

Seeing all the cool stuff and getting my kids into collecting, we started coin-roll hunting to fill up the state quarters and shopping estate sales for old coins.
Bought some basics at an estate sale a few months back (some proof sets, a tube of clad Ikes, one Morgan, and one Peace dollar.)
Thought they were all supercool and spent a couple hundred bucks (dadgum melt prices killing me!🤣)

When I saw the “spot sale” on a forum the other day, I bought a random year/cull Peace dollar for $61 (+ shipping) and it just arrived!

It has some authentic coin boogers on it, so I don’t think it has been scrubbed with a belt sander or Brillo pad (like some posts.)
It’s way shinier and less worn than my other PD, so I wanted to show it off. Difficult to take great pics, so I tried two different backgrounds. (Included my first Peace in the last pics).

What do you think?

Big week on spendables. I usually get random foreigns, but last week was all about the change! I did find a fantastic wheat and a beautiful silver dime! First time I have seen a St. Christopher/pressed peso (maybe?) and a few randoms, including the not silver/black dime!
Happy hunting, folks!

Just recently started a penny collection after my kids discovered the 2009 Abe Lincoln cents. Had to expand my r/crh from halves to a mixed bag of all denominations.

Haven’t found anything stellar yet (it’s only been a few months) but ended up finding one of our best looking/oldest wheaties in a Coinstar on the way home today!

I guess this is when subs collide!

(Now I can finally cross post, since Reddit is always pestering me to do so!)

Found a grocery with their sorter kinda off to the side, so I took a few minutes to check the magnets around the top. Found an old nail, a screw, a pushpin, and a lapel/brooch pin(?) of some sort.

Now, at least, the magnets are clear to grab some Canadians, Euros, or pesos for the next time I check!

(Ended up with two filthy pointer fingers for my troubles!)
