Old Pakistani patriotic song stuck in head. Can't remember the lyrics. :(

I know sounds really odd how can a song be stuck in head when I don't know the lyrics. I was streaming Pakistani FM radio on 14th August, and this was one of the songs they played. It is not one of the common songs and their variations.

What I remember:

Song style: Old style. Very 60s or early 70s.

Singer: Male voice. Male singer very likely trained on both Eastern and Western singing styles. Sounds very much like Frank Sinatra. Already looked up Sohail Rana on Youtube, doesn't sound like him.

Lyrics: Obviously had the word Pakistan in it. One of the lines was tujh pey qurban meri jaan. I searched for those lyrics on Youtube, found many songs with those lyrics, but none of them are this song.

Just wondering, not hating. If housing communities like Bahria were designed as safe and exclusive, why do they let random people in?

If I remember correctly, the initial selling point for Bahria was it was exclusive, and safe. Kind of like those luxury compounds in Gulf countries for expats. Since overseas Pakistanis were one of their main target buyers.

If that is the case, why do they let randoms in to go to the movie theater, go sightseeing and look at those replica global monuments, etc? Would people who live there and pay the hefty annual fees want that?

A blast from the past, Imran Khan, the Bollywood actor posted in the main Pakistan sub. His post was deleted.

Anytime I see him on my social media, I am reminded of that.

I know he is not active anymore in show business, but he posted on Reddit many years ago. Did an AMA, and was posting in general. He tried posting in /r/pakistan and his thread was removed. Rule broken was that the mod said it was more of a takeover / hivemind post.

Who has worked out at a desi gym?

From watching Instagram reels, I am curious anyone worked out at these desi gyms? What are they like? They appear to be wrestling focused with some weight lifting equipment.

People who have been part of the organized sports scene, something beyond the neigborhood ground, what was it like?

Several posts and discussions these days about the lack of presence of Pakistani football at the world cup level. All discussions come to the same conclusion, need to improve the football academies and leagues. There are Pakistani players who play in international leagues, so there is talent and development does happen. But nothing like countries which take football seriously.

So a related question, anyone here been part of organized sports, beyond the street level or neighborhood grounds, what was the experience like? Was anyone part of the those cricket clubs that had past Pakistani cricket team players as coaches? What about hockey, squash, polo, etc.

Are there hidden gems in all these Pakistani action movies from yesteryears?

If you hang out on subs about bad movies there are occasional discussions of hidden gems amongst terrible movies from Hollywood. Weak acting, but great concept. Or first movie of a well known actor who was an unknown then. Or just all out fun movies.

Sharing some movies as an example. Are there any similar movies which were fun to watch?

Why was it such a big deal that Milli Vanilli were lip syncing in their concerts?

Lip syncing is a thing at concerts and songs are pre recorded. In the VH1 Behind the Music they talked about how a stuck tape at their concert led to a big hoopla and they had to eventually admit they dont sing their own songs.

Why couldn't they just say they were lip syncing at the concert?

In a typical houston home attic, how does a plumber or electrician walk to the back of the house?

Assume a ranch style home where the entrance to the attic is through a ladder in the garage. Everytime I go there i am left dreading an issue in the back of the house. There is no direct walkway, someone will have to walk on the joists while balancing themselves with their tools. One misstep and they will go through the ceiling.

Am i supposed to make my attic more walkable to avoid a situation?

Your thoughts on recent resurgence of alternate indie movies in Pakistan?

I have been seeing a lot of newcomers in the Pakistani films landscape experimenting with new ideas and storytelling. Your thoughts on how we should encourage such grassroots efforts?

Did anyone else think Bluey was set in Austin?

Maybe just me, but for a while I thought Bluey was set in Austin. Then I find out they are hanging upside down in Australia. Looks so similar to Austin.

Return of the Pakistani movie industry? Third super hit in the works.

First it was Bullah. Then Psycho. And now he is working on a comedy, English Minglish. That too opposite super star Meera. Complete with faarin setting. Is Shaan Shahid bigger than Shah Rukh Khan?

What do you think are the most fun jobs in Pakistan?

Let's leave aside politics for a bit :)

Someone is a sales person at the AMG dealership in Pakistan. Someone sells luxury yachts. Someone makes handcrafted cricket bats. Someone does calligraphy in masajid. I bet all of those jobs are fun.

Why does evening rush hour traffic start to drop after spring break?

Maybe its just confirmation bias on my part. My rush hour is mostly Energy Corridor، I10, BW8, Eldridge and sometimes 290. I notice that rush hour traffic is crazy in the evenings from January till spring break. Which is expected. Schools start, vacations are over, offices want to see people sitting in chairs, etc.

Once mid March arrives, it drops due to spring break. Again, not a mystery. But I have noticed it never goes back to beginning of year levels past spring break. Why is that?

If places like Soviet Union had no fashion labels or retail shops pushing fashion, how did they decide what fashion was going to be?

Fashion is essentially pushed by labels and retail stores. Throw celebrity culture into the mix and you get the style of the time.

But if places like Soviet Union had no such things, who was deciding what fashion was going to be? From pictures I have seen, mostly from the 80s, they clothing style followed the rest of Europe.

People who eat healthy, what is daily food like in your home?

I grew up in a home where we didnt eat out a lot. Maybe once a month. Occasional naans from outside, sometimes samosay, BBQ items, etc. Never had nihari or paya, and we lived very close to a famous paya restaurant.

Daily food wasn't that healthy, but generally healthy. Usually one meat item, one vegetable item, rice or home made roti, and sliced cucumbers/tomatoes for salad. Although seems like eating rice daily is a bad thing. We didnt do portion control, but compared to what I saw we ate reallt small portions.

This is not a ugoogly for Ted Turner. I don't know much about him. Other than the fact that he was media company owner, and one of the things he did was start CNN. CNN essentially started the 24 hour news cycle. It's coverage of the first Gulf War made it a household name in many countries, including Pakistan. In Pakistan, along with BBC news, it was the only way to get the most up to date coverage. And this time, it was live.

CNN was shown over the air in Pakistan. It started sometime in 1990. We had been hearing about a second TV channel for a while. But the old guard (Zia) was now gone. The new govt(s) was much more open to having new channels. And one day you could tune into CNN. Unless you had a satellite dish in 1990 or had lived abroad, this was an entirely new concept. A non-government controlled news channel. It was quite exciting and the general public liked it. Eventually CNN became a late night or morning thing, as STN/NTM started on the same channel.

It was censored. Certain news stories would be blocked. If something was too "uriyan", then they pixilated the screen. It was joked that you could de-pixilate by viewing it through a dupatta. Now Pakistanis could stay up all night watching TV if they wanted to. No more qaumi tarana sign off at 12 AM. It wasn't a secret that news on PTV was tightly controlled, and people didn't trust the news at all. CNN showed that to be true. PTV couldn't standby and do nothing. They redid a new style of news, adapting CNN's story telling format.

In a couple of years, Satellite dish became common. You were no longer stuck watching one or two local channels. CNN essentially warmed up the audience to the satellite dish. Indian channels and their sadly terrible soaps became a common thing in Pakistani households. They did have some good game shows like Antakshiri, so I will give them credit for that. Along with that also came MTV, Star and various other Western channels. MTV's impact on Pakistani pop music needs to be studied. This eventually led people to wonder, so why can't we have our own satellite TV channels.

Eventually all these private satellite and cable TV channels started in Pakistan. And here we are, missing the simple days when only one channel showed the news. Everything wasn't breaking news, and the TV wasn't yelling at you using white text on a red background.

So the point of this is, if you have a 100 TV channels in your house today, remember it didn't happen by magic. Often an outside influence is needed to kickstart the process. In this case, it was CNN. CNN didn't start local TV channels, but it did create an environment that led people to ask, so why can't we do this.

And I know, aint' nobody reading all this sheeet. All opinions are mine. And I may be 100% wrong. Written by typing, not by Copilot.
