Part of being a Gate fan is shitting on the original story due to being poorly written, black and white and an ultranationalist wank.

One of the most affected parts of the story because of this is the characters that are mostly one dimensional and remind me more of character templates than actual characters.

We have the classic Zorzal and 90% of the Saderans being stupid and cartoonish evil, the JSDF characters being saints unable to do wrong and most of the Falmartian characters being extremely naive so that they can be impressed by Japan's incredible technology from the Cold War.

However one character that I think suffers a lot from gate's poor writing and people don't talk a lot about it is Risa.

You know Itami's ex-wife that draws doujinshi.

Now what's wrong with her?

Well...

She's introduced out of nowhere as a joke (haha guys Itami is not actually a virgin otaku and was married for a while? Haha) just to confuse the rest of third recon (especially Kuribayashi).

Is an extremely underutilized character.

And what I think is the worst is that the reason for the divorce just makes her sound like a selfish asshole.

So what's the reason for the divorce you ask?

Maybe it was toxicity between her and Itami? (Probably the most realistic scenario because you know she married him for feeding her, not kidding check the wiki).

And what I think is the worst about the whole divorce thing is that Itami keeps sending money to her from the special region and she says "our relationship actually got better after the divorce guys".

No shit Itami is sending his money to you while he's deployed in another world so that you can still have a way to feed yourself without having to deal with him, you basically treat him as a cash cow.

Also he's not sending enough money to her or she wastes it on useless stuff? because she lives in a disgusting cold apartment and it's unable to pay her bills and basically depends on the success of her doujinshi to pay said bills.

So yeah I don't like the original Risa that much.

However...

She is a character that has much more potential than people realize.

Let's say you're writing a gate fic with the original characters you can use her to give something to Itami actually care for other than his hobbies.

Let's say that in your fic they're still married and she's the reason for why Itami actually cares about going back home without being inside a casket because he actually likes her and vice versa.

Introduce her in the first chapter together with him and show that they actually love each other.

Have them constantly talk with each other after communication is properly set up in Alnus Hill and have she actually worry about his well being.

And then the joke about him not being a virgin otaku will actually be funny because instead of saying:

"she's my ex-wife".

He will say:

"she's my wife".

And the rest of third recon and the girls will be like

"WHY DID YOU NEVER TALKED ABOUT IT!"

And he being the goofy ball he is is going to answer.

"you never asked".

Also it's a reason for cock blocking Rory.

A Fanfic that did the relationship between them well is Operation Tiger Strike and I highly recommend it.

Now before you all burn me at the stake hear me out.

Modern militaries will wipe out the empire without breaking a sweat if they know what they are doing (which they know 50% of the time).

The problem starts at the post war period when they have to stabilize the region.

Things will go like this:

-> Replace the royal system with a democracy that will not be able to do anything because it will be extremely corrupt and inefficient.

-> Let in dozens of corrupt companies together with their corrupt private military/security that will constantly explore the locals and their land.

-> Dismantle whatever is left of the imperial military and create another military called something like "Saderans National Army" or "Saderan Security Forces".

-> This new military is going to be extremely corrupt and inefficient because they will take literally anyone for service and will be forced to follow stupid and nonsensical rules of engagement that don't work and actually give advantages to whatever enemy forces they have to fight against.

-> Seeing how the Saderan military cannot take care of its problems alone the modern military will have to give them constant support and essentially do 90% of the job alone while following the same stupid rules of engagement.

-> Never ending war against guerrillas starts.

-> After a while of draining resources and getting what they want the government and their companies lose interest in the special region because they lose more money than what they get from it.

-> The government then decides to pull out its military from the special region in the most stupid way possible.

-> Seeing this the guerrillas that have been fighting against them for *insert a random number of decades here* decided to make an offensive against the unmotivated and poorly equipped Saderan military.

-> this offensive works and now the only territory controlled by the modern government is the Gate and hundreds of thousands of people are flooding in because they don't wanna live under a new Saderan empire.

Now the modern government has 2 options:

1- Bring in the military, take back the territory they lost and repeat the exact same process that led to this situation again because "it will definitely work out now guys".

2- Say fuck it and close the gate.

-> Both options will lead to scandal that will greatly affect the current government administration reputation.

-> They lose the next election because of it.

-> The new administration say that they learned from the mistakes of the previous administration and that they will never do It again.

-> A few months later they commit the exact same mistake again.

-> The process repeats itself endlessly until the nation if said government and military collapses under the weight of their own stupidity or the sun explodes.

So yeah modern governments and militaries are the worst people to deal with a Gate scenario because all politicians, ministers of defense and military leaders on Earth have a combined IQ of 2.

Like he ate something bad and shitted himself in front of his army.

IFVs are the perfect Armored Vehicle for a war against the empire in the special region and would be a better option than tanks (I know that IFVs work together with tanks but I'm comparing them as separate vehicles (it doesn't make sense but bear with me)).

Let's use the BMP-1, BMP-2 and the BMP-3 as examples (any other amphibious IFV would also work).

-> It's amphibious so you don't need to worry about destroyed bridges (tanks can't do that and you would need to make your own bridge).

-> Can carry troops (tanks can do it but you have to ride them when doing it exposing you to enemy fire).

-> Armor can stop most of the stuff that the empire will throw at it (sure tanks have better armor but it doesn't matter when you're mostly being shot at by arrows and the occasional magical fireball).

-> Problems of the modern era such as poor protection against explosions don't apply because the empire doesn't have firearms or cannons (sure mages are still a thing and their explosive magic could pen the BMPs armor wounding it's crew, disabling the vehicle or destroy it but imperial battle mages are pretty rare (we see only a few and only one of them was capable of damaging a JSDF tank)).

-> The BMP-1 has a 73mm cannon that can fire HE(High Explosive) ammo that would be extremely effective against imperial formations and an ATGM(Anti-tank Guided Missile) that could be used against fortifications.

-> The BMP-2 has a 30mm auto cannon with a fire rate between 200 to 550 shots per minute (the crew can change the fire rate) that would be extremely effective against imperial infantry formations and slow moving wyverns and also has an ATGM.

-> The BMP-2M also has an additional 30mm automatic grenade launcher that would be extremely effective against imperial infantry formations and 4 ATGMs.

-> The BMP-3 has a 100mm cannon that can also fire ATGMs (essentially a tank cannon) with the same 30mm auto cannon of the BMP-2 as a coaxial gun.

Tanks have better armament but it doesn't matter because the empire doesn't have anything that can stop something bigger than a 50cal (the fire dragon doesn't count because the empire can't control it).

So yeah although cool and intimidating a traditional tank is not as useful as an IVF (that's why tanks are supposed to work together with them (but in a war against the empire you could theoretically just bring IFVs).

1st image: Coalition of Free States and Paganda occupation forces.

After its arrival at the New World the GVE quickly made contact with multiple small island nations offering a mutually beneficial relationship.

These nations quickly accepted the offer seeing it as their only chance of liberating themselves from Paganda that constantly raided their territory taking resources and slaves.

The Pagandans were not happy seeing that and quickly threatened the GVE saying that if these territories weren't given back they would burn Gra Valkas to the ground (they didn't know about the true size of the GVE by the time of this statement).

The GVE responded by invading and occupying Paganda.

After taking Paganda and freeing their many slaves the GVE decided to place the Pagandan territory to the under jurisdiction of the newly formed Coalition of Free States.

The occupation forces were mostly made up of freed slaves that received surplus weapons and equipment from the GVE, that would patrol the occupied territory and sometimes commit atrocities against the local Pagandan population as revenge for their slavery.

2nd image: Inertia Kingdom.

After the quick fall of Paganda the Inertia Kingdom was the first to approach the GVE to establish diplomatic relations seeing the fall of their rival as a blessing.

Diplomatic relations were quickly established with the Inertia Kingdom allowing the GVE to it's territory as a military base on it's invasion of Leifor and sending a small expeditionary force to help the GVE.

In exchange for their help the GVE paid the Inertia Kingdom with large amounts of surplus weapons, equipment and vehicles with the GVE also helping them modernize their industry and infrastructure.

3rd image: Vichy Leifor.

After the fall of their Pagandan allies Leifor declared war against the GVE and their allies.

The war lasted only a few days with the remaining Leiforian government unconditionally surrendering after the bombing of their capital by the Gra Valkan Navy and the loss of multiple other coastal cities.

During the occupation a puppet government was established with the remaining Leiforian military being reorganized into a police force responsible for suppressing civil unrest and keeping law and order.

The now called Leiforian Security Forces used their old uniforms and equipment with red bands on their helmets and right arm.

After the fall of Leifor essentially the entire 2nd civilization area with the exception of Mu allied themselves with the GVE due to Leifor not being what one would consider a nice neighbor, the fact that the Gra Valkans were more open to share their technology than Mu, or similar culture in the case of the Magicaraich Community.

The Sonal Kingdom was the only GVE ally to use paratroopers in a significant scale with them quickly earning their reputation as elite troops surprising even the experienced veteran Gra Valkan paratroopers.

Many demi-humans also volunteered or were conscripted to fight for the GVE.

With their enhanced abilities putting them in specific roles in the military.

9th image: Demi-human military policeman.

Due to the enhanced senses of demi-humans such as better hearing and the capability of tracing smell many would be put in the military police acting to catch contraband and spies.

Many would also work as guards for high ranking Gra Valkan politicians, generals and even the royal family.

10th image: Elven field healer.

Due to the elven enhanced magic capabilities they would act as field healers, saving soldiers from wounds that would be considered fatal by a regular medic.

11th image: Demi-human mountaineer sniper.

Demi-humans also had stronger tolerance to extreme environments with them being capable of crossing areas considered death zones for regular humans.

12th image: Demi-human "juggernaut".

Due to being many times stronger than a regular humans Demi-humans could carry extended loads of equipment.

Many of them would carry heavy machine guns with enough ammo to load an entire squad and wear heavy armor.

Many would be relocated to the royal guard were they would act as shock troops.

13th image: resistance and partisan groups.

During the New World War as the EDI (Elysian Defense Initiative) and Japan started to push the GVE and their allies back they would enter their territory and start to take and occupying their cities.

This would lead to the creation of several resistance and partisan groups that would use guerrilla tactics against their occupiers.

This would lead to many EDI members commiting atrocities against the local civilian population as revenge for their attacks.

The Milishials were the ones that would commit most of these atrocities due to them viewing themselves as superior to the local population that allied themselves with the GVE.

Many of these atrocities would be exposed by Milishial and japanese journalists and would be used as propaganda by the GVE and their allies destroying the reputation of the Milishials and their allies as the "protectors of civilization".

This would also lead to Japan to stop all military support to the EDI with them also starting negotiations with the GVE before anyone else to try to end the war.

The end of Japanese support to the EDI would lead to a stealmate which would lead to an eventual truce.

Like how the backrooms try to copy stuff but it comes out wrong?
