I just impulse bought a spot for Ho Ho Hot Mulligan Night 2…. I live in AZ. Any suggestions on what to do in Detroit while I’m there?

I decided to check in on Bren Lukens today, and saw that they have started doing sets again! As a diehard MOBO fan, I was ecstatic. I’ve dabbled in Hot Mulligan over the past few years, plus Joyce Manor, and I could not resist.

I’ve never been to MI so I honestly have no idea what to expect! Any tips? How is the bus system out there? Any spots I should avoid? I think I’ll only be there the 19th-21st, so definitely in city advice is greatly appreciated!

On another note, any suggestions on the other bands playing? I’d love to get into them before the show, and I love hearing why people like the songs they do.

Just finished and I’m conflicted… Am I wrong?

I’ll start by saying I loved the story, and the character development is nearly unrivaled.

However, >!I don’t think Thorfinn learned the right lessons. I think Thorfinn was a traumatized young man, who took his!< father’s >!final message WAY too literally, and missed the forest through the trees.!<

>!We have the benefit of hindsight, so we KNOW going in that Thorfinn will fail in his goal of stopping war and suffering. But we also know what it’s like living in the modern world, where some people don’t have the choice to run away to “Somewhere not here”. In some corners of the world, fighting back or dying are the only choices.!<

>!Even Thors knew when to draw his sword, which is when someone threatens his family. He says “I am weak because I rely on the sword” but c’mon man, it’s life or death(for your loved ones), you are GOING to fight. It’s just sad that Thorfinn never got that parallel scene, and Gudrid/Karli were never threatened imminently. “You have no enemies, except when a psychopath wants to hurt your loved ones for the sake of violence alone” doesn’t really roll off the tongue.!<

>!I think the closest he gets is when he realizes Einar killed someone, and realizes he didn’t have a choice. But it’s kind of glossed over, and he DIES unceremoniously right after, without any sort of hope of developing like Thorfinn did. It honestly felt like a cheap shot to tug on the heartstrings one last time.!<

>!I’m glad Thorfinn realized colonizing owned territory is a bad start to peace, but then leaving Vinland to go back to (assuming) Iceland seems super anticlimactic. It feels rushed, and the edges are definitely still rough.!<

I loved everything leading up to the final arc, and I think that’s why I’m struggling with the ending. I just disagree with Thorfinn by the end, I guess, and I feel like I’m wrong, because Thorfinn IS the morally better person. I just don’t think he’d have the same outlook Im the modern world. Did anyone else feel this way?

The best video essay about Pirenesi

Jacob Gellar has been in the top 5 video essayists for me for years, and this was the first video I watched of his! It’s how I was recommended Pirenesi, so if you have someone you desperately want to read it, this is the video.

Even if you’ve read it, he goes over the history and influence of the term “Pirenesi” and a few different takes on the “Infinite world” design. Very well worth the time.

Blame! manga panel reminds me of Heavens River

Specifically the scene where they are traveling from the outer to the inner shell, with the inner shell going by at hundreds of miles a second. Definitely one of my favorite chapters in that book.

I just finished my first version of my “Prep Time” deck.

The goal is to get out as many prepared creatures as I can, and re-prepare the ETB creatures with blink effects. This will eventually be paired with drain abilities like Impact Tremors to hurt the table on top of combat damage, which is the main win con right now.

I guess I’m looking for any suggestions, like maybe a Flash element? I’m trying to keep it Bracket 3, but is there any cool tech that I could use that Im not aware of? I already have Displacer Kitten, so that’s covered.

If I have Cast Through Time and I cast the Demonic Tutor from Emeritus of Woe, will the rebound trigger, or does it need to be a separate card to exile?

On that same note, if I copy a prepared creature with Phyrexian Metamorph, would it still have the prepared spell attached to it?

Sorry for not linking the cards, I’m not sure how.

After finishing TFOB, I was very happy with it. I personally like it a little more than MoG, and the context Livesuit provides is essential. So with that, here is my first draft of bad predictions for “Book 3”, the final book in the Captives War series. Sorry for the formatting, I’m pretty new to actually posting on Reddit.

-The book opens with a time skip, about 14-18 years.

-Tonner and Else’s child(‘Annalise’ and I’d almost bet money on it) is now a teenager, raised by Dafyd and Clae. We get POVs of her with palace intrigue to ensue, uncovering Clae for what she is, her mother’s killer, AND her mom. Potential for a team up to usurp Dafyd as the one eyed king, setting him up for his slide into Carryx apologia mode

-Dafyd breaks down after losing his greatest confidant and surrogate daughter, and has becoming more and more Carryx like every year. Acting in their mannerisms is second nature now.

(This is really bad so prepare yourself)

-Dafyd BECOMES a Carryx.

Much like the Forerunners in Halo, the Carryx can augment their form to fit the needs of the caste they are designated. We have yet to see that happen “on screen” but I believe that they have some sort of chemotherapy(best word I could think of) that allows genetic information to be passed on to one another. I think(and really doubt I’m right) that the Carryx will grant Dafyd the “gift” of making him a librarian or something crazy. That being said, my confidence is pretty low on that one. Even with the dream about him being a Carryx.

-Garral is now a part of the liberating army, maybe he is a Livesuit, possibly storming the prison world to free the slaves. OR maybe he uncovers the truth about the “Livesuits” and “Deathless” either way, he is DEFINITELY getting POVs

Im really not sure about Jessyn and Campar. They were personally my favorite characters to read because they are the least predictable. I’d really like to think on what the Deathless and the Swarm actually are. I’ll give TFOB another listen and update sometime before the release of the next one.

Leave your own bad predictions for me, I’d love to hear them!

Im an avid pop punk fan, and this song popped up as I was nearing the end of TFOB and the intro reminds me of Dafyd and Clae’s dynamic. Not so much the second half, but I can still dig it. Just figured I’d share

Also, I listened in audiobook, so I’m not sure how MOST of the names are spelled, sorry :)
