Is the Berg Concerto harder because of its lack of tonality or easier because, let’s be honest, no one will notice a few wrong notes here & there?

Interested in perspectives from folks who have tackled this monster. Where does it sit in the difficulty level of the major violin concerto repertoire?

Also, does it help to have perfect pitch for this one?

CBS Sports: Georgia’s 2026 roster cost in the “upper-$30-million range”

Georgia isn't as flashy or outward in its spending as some others, but college football's most recent back-to-back champions have adapted to the new era with a roster in the upper-$30-million range. Most of that money is allocated via high school, where the Bulldogs have signed four straight top seven classes.

Georgia is also smart about filling holes via the portal, including making big splashes (and paydays) for those like defensive lineman Amaris Williams and wide receiver Isiah Canion. Still, there are skeptics about whether Georgia's spending is truly elite after early NIL challenges.

"I don't think they are there with the current roster," says one SEC source. "You don't find yourself in a bidding war with Georgia very much."

Why would Sony Classical hold back ONE movement of an out-of-print recording?

Listening to Previn’s first (1967) recording of Walton 1 and it appears the third movement is not licensed to stream. WHY, SONY MUSIC, WHY??

This recording is long out of print, and allowing us to listen to the entire work will in no way cannibalize revenue elsewhere.

Anyone have any theories about the logic here? Does Spotify have the third movement of this exact same recording?

Brilliant, brilliant performance here, by the way. Very much worth your ears if you can find a version WITH the third movement.

Is there any benefit to a true, zero exercise rest day?

I generally exercise 7 days a week, 365 days a year unless a true life disruption (illness, etc.) gets in the way. I work a PLPC split, so push / legs / pull / cardio (outdoor 10K) and repeat. Since muscle groups are always resting at some point during the split, I’ve never worried too much about forcing myself to take true zero exercise rest days. My body pretty much always feels good, never overly sore or exhausted unless I push my 10K too hard.

Now that I’m turning 48 this year and my gains are slowing, I’m wondering: are the actually benefits to enforced true zero exercise rest days?

Who’s holding out?

Just listened to the DawgCast that posted last night and the guys alluded — without naming names — to a Georgia player or players who are holding out from fall camp for more money.

Alright, I want names. Anybody have the intel?

Anyone attend the Glory Glory private practice yesterday?

If so, any standouts? Or other insights?

If you don’t know what I’m talking about, members of Glory Glory, our NIL collective, were invited to a private practice yesterday in Athens.

What do you think of ROH's new trailer for Parsifal?

Does it set the wrong expectations? Right expectations? Expand the audience in a way that's good for opera? Or completely Hollywoodize and misrepresent Wagner's intentions?

Personally, I love it, but I'm interested to hear what you think.

We have 13 games in 2030 (for now)

Obviously this won’t hold. Do you think we’ll cancel the home-and-home with Clemson or the home-and-home with Ohio State, or both? Or do we go all out and just cancel North Carolina A&T? 🤣

Any tips & tricks for the hardest exercise of them all: fork putdowns?

For example, someone once told me to keep a toothbrush & toothpaste near the dinner table. Brush immediately after the meal so you’re not tempted to snack on leftovers or eat dessert. Laziness to avoid brushing 2x should prevail.

Have any other tips & tricks?

[iOS] How can I verbally invoke Ramble while in Driving Focus?

I have a Shortcut set up to have Siri invoke Ramble and I love it. But when driving — when random tasks often come to mind — Siri hits the passcode and won’t proceed because of Driving Focus. I’d have to pick up my phone and take my eyes off the road to authenticate for the Shortcut to proceed.

Is there any way to “allowlist” Ramble so it doesn’t require the passcode during Driving Focus?

How are the Dawgs STILL so young?

Last year, Kirby talked about how 54% of the roster was entering their first or second seasons with the program. Smart noted that the lack of experience provided the roster with “youthful exuberance,” whatever that’s supposed to mean on the gridiron.

This year, we’re literally the youngest team in FBS — average age 19.81 years old. No other team is younger.

What in the Benjamin Button is going on? How could we be even younger than last year, and why does this keep happening? I thought Kirby was all about retention?

Have you ever had a true “aha!” moment from a summer program masterclass?

My theory is these masterclasses only exist to hear from someone other than your teacher all the same stuff your teacher has already been telling you for months…but anyone please prove me wrong!

Mahler’s “Das klagende Lied” is surprisingly awesome!

I’ve loved Mahler’s symphonies for 30+ years, yet always dismissed “Das klagende Lied” as juvenilia from the Lieder side of Mahler’s oeuvre. You know, the vocal stuff with impossible-to-pronounce names. “Das Lied von der Erde” gets a pass because it’s also a symphony, but the other stuff? Just filler if there’s still room on the CD! 😅

I couldn’t have been more wrong! Mahler’s Lieder are gorgeous, and “Das klagende Lied” in particular is massive, dark, loud, and very much in the same vein as the symphonies. It just happens to be a cantata.

If you’re a fan of Mahler’s symphonies but have never given much thought to “Das klagende Lied,” you must give it a try! And be sure to acquaint yourself with the fairytale story; so much of the fun is the dark (even gruesome) tale. This deserves to be heard — and performed — so much more. Enjoy!

“Rhapsody in Blue” is inextricably linked to NYC for me. Are there other American musical works strongly identified with a specific US city?

Subject says it all. Happy 4th of July to those who are celebrating!

Does MARTA now accept Apple Pay without having a Breeze Card or app?

I’m not a regular MARTA rider, but I’ll be riding this weekend amid the holiday traffic. With the new payment system, can I just tap my iPhone at the turnstile and pay with Apple Pay, or do I need to download the Breeze app and set up an account? My hope is to avoid all lines.

UPDATE: The answer appears to be yes. Thanks, all!

Why does the national sports media ignore/dislike UGA football so much?

This post is inspired by a recent comment from someone who said Joel Klatt dislikes UGA because we never have the flashy, big-name QB who draws attention, helps craft dramatic storylines, and drives clicks. I think there’s a lot to that theory.

I’d add that Kirby is steady and uncontroversial. Our players are workhorses who prefer the team over the individual spotlight. And as long as it’s been a minute since our last tangle with ACC PD, there’s just nothing very sexy to write about the Dawgs. We just put our heads down and steadily win 10+ every season.

Any other thoughts on why the national media ignores/dislikes us so much?

What exactly does a master’s or PhD in music performance entail?

I get that a bachelor’s degree in music performance will usually include core classes in maths, literature, sciences, history, etc. — the “college experience,” if you will. But what does a focused MM or PhD in music performance entail? Are you essentially paying ~$30K or more for private lessons and a fancy diploma that says you did it?
