“Rhapsody in Blue” is inextricably linked to NYC for me. Are there other American musical works strongly identified with a specific US city?

I’m not a regular MARTA rider, but I’ll be riding this weekend amid the holiday traffic. With the new payment system, can I just tap my iPhone at the turnstile and pay with Apple Pay, or do I need to download the Breeze app and set up an account? My hope is to avoid all lines.
UPDATE: The answer appears to be yes. Thanks, all!
This post is inspired by a recent comment from someone who said Joel Klatt dislikes UGA because we never have the flashy, big-name QB who draws attention, helps craft dramatic storylines, and drives clicks. I think there’s a lot to that theory.
I’d add that Kirby is steady and uncontroversial. Our players are workhorses who prefer the team over the individual spotlight. And as long as it’s been a minute since our last tangle with ACC PD, there’s just nothing very sexy to write about the Dawgs. We just put our heads down and steadily win 10+ every season.
Any other thoughts on why the national media ignores/dislikes us so much?
I searched and saw old comments over the years, but looking for any new recommendations based on how crowds and anything else has evolved. What are your recommendations?
I get that a bachelor’s degree in music performance will usually include core classes in maths, literature, sciences, history, etc. — the “college experience,” if you will. But what does a focused MM or PhD in music performance entail? Are you essentially paying ~$30K or more for private lessons and a fancy diploma that says you did it?
I’m currently at a Suzuki Institute with my 12-year-old son, and I can tell he’s starting to age out of this type of summer camp. Not from a technical playing standpoint, but from a pre-teen “I’m a little too cool for this, Dad” standpoint.
Thinking ahead to next year, what kind of non-Suzuki camp would be good for a 13-year-old whose playing level on the current trajectory would be mid to late Book 6? Ideally in the southeastern USA. Thanks!
Recommendations, please!
Kirby keeps this up, imma have to issue a public apology.
EDIT: Like 15 minutes after I posted this, we got another LB commitment and now we’re up to #9 on 247. Back in the top 10, baby!!
Me: Tennstedt’s LPO Mahler 8, the BBC live recording.
Sometimes the “Feels Like” temperature is higher up in the data, sometimes lower. The humidity percentage also shifts around with regularity. What is Apple’s logic in constantly moving where information is located in the Weather app?
Could have missed this amid all the other CFB news today. Seems like a good outcome to me.
Not a troll post. With today's court injunction in favor of Brendan Sorsby, it appears even the most fundamental, universally agreed-upon rules of the game no longer matter. So with millions of dollars on the line for players and Athletic Departments, what's keeping this from sliding into lawsuits about basic rules, on-the-field calls, and the outcomes of games?
For example, many if not most targeting ejections are highly disputable. A player who gets called for targeting in the second half of a game so he can't play in the first half of the next game should, at this point, file for an emergency injunction in the week between games to get the rule overturned. Given that rules don't matter anymore, why not?
This sucks. It truly does. But is this the direction we're heading?
Did they need to pee real bad? Sudden bout of diarrhea? I don’t care; it was extremely unprofessional and I’m going to write an open letter to my local newspaper about it. 😠
The reality check here is that UGA will add approximately 13 new commits to this class over the next two months. This is likely going to be the new normal in Athens.
If Georgia had public pledges from its seven most likely commitments right now, its national ranking would be No. 5. The class would then have 14 commitments. The Dawgs would be just ahead of Florida. Look for the Dawgs to put together another impressive string of daily commitments this summer.
So the sky is not falling. The blue skies just won’t arrive until late July for the 2027 class.
Let’s F’ing GOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!! GO DAWGS!!
Subject basically says it. What’s our differentiator with development that can’t be offered by Texas, Miami, Ohio State, Oregon, or Alabama?
Because this would be an atrocious thing to do and I would certainly never do it, but be honest, do you?
Per the article, in 2024-2025 we ranked #8 in the SEC with $52.1 million in donations to the athletic department and $44 million specifically for the football program. Could we be ranked higher? Sure. But we also beat Texas A&M, Florida, and Ole Miss — all of which have made much splashier, big-budget acquisitions in the portal and during the recruiting cycle.
We need to end the narrative that Georgia sucks at NIL funding. The main issue, I believe, is we expect players to take a Georgia discount in order to be developed by Kirby Smart and his staff. Only time will tell if that’s a National Championship-winning strategy or if it’s another few decades before we once again reach the promise land.
We rank #22 according to 247. I know there’s a ton of time left, but aren’t we usually massively higher than this by the end of the school year? Is there any precedent for this in the Kirby Smart era?
