Family plan on AT&T -> US Mobile

Am currently paying for 5 lines on AT&T with mixed features (three have hotspots, and those accounts use the majority of the data).

Account uses about 100GB of data per month, and about 5GB of that is hotspot usage.

I would go with Dark Star - but am unsure:

  • Unlimited starter seems like it will work for all of us, after a year switch the lesser-used lines to Unlimited flex annual. Does this sound reasonable?
  • Since there is no family plan with US Mobile, what is the benefit of keeping all of the lines together in one account? At the moment I pay the main bill and get repaid by family members. This made a lot of sense when I first started out (oh that sweet $180/mo AT&T bill) but they've been bleeding us dry and the latest $5/mo bump is the final straw ($220/mo) (frankly, the bump prior to that should have been a sign, or the bump before that)
  • Do I need a physical sim card for our iPhones (they all support esim... so I'm thinking not)?

I've been searching/reading through this sub, but am running out of time before the "Only" deals expire (do they? or is it just marketing?). I think these are my last questions. I realize we (as in, me and my family members) can purchase the plans and then port our lines later.

Advice for connecting fabric to metal

I am finishing up an automata - and am having trouble with the interface between the cloth and the metal wire which moves it.

I am overthinking this - but once I cut my wires I can't go back. They are quite thick (22ga?) but need to be as my mechanism needs them to be stiff.

  • I could form loops and sew each limb to the loop
  • I tried twisting thin wire together to form a tiny tiny loop (replacing the entire length of the main wire) - but the twisted wire created so much friction the mechanism didn't move smoothly
  • I am using stainless steel wire - so I think soldering at the top of the wire is out? But I could use a glue if there was a tiny cap with loop

I'm trying two do two things:

  1. make it easy to form a repeatable loop at the top at the right height
  2. make the interface between tentacle and wire "soft" so that the limbs don't wear

Is there a "checked songs" equivalent for Jellyfin like in Music?

In Apple Music (and in iTunes) you can check/uncheck songs to disable them. I thought I could use favorites in this way, but ultimately what ends up happening is that all songs are available on jellyfin clients - I have to do an extra step of filtering just favorites - and if I want to download them - I need to set up a SmartList of just favorites and set that playlist to download. I kind of want to just ignore unfavorited songs, and only sync those, without all these extra steps.

Any thoughts? Wondering if there's a simple workflow. I'd prefer not to do a reverse proxy or stream songs from home. I use a VPN when I'm at work, which is sufficient, but when driving internet is spotty and locally cached would be better.

I'm this close: --> || <-- to coding a simple jellyfin->Music (iTunes) XML database sync script - so I'd use Music (formerly iTunes) to sync my music to my phone, but I would prefer just to use a better jellyfin client. Nevermind this idea won't work - Music uses a proprietary DB

tldr: most of the clients I have tried handle downloads/offline mode in very awkward ways. for instance - in one - if I switch to offline mode I cannot view albums, but I have the favorited songs downloaded so technically the album is on the phone. But the client didn't download the full album metadata (most likely) so it isn't available. Same goes for artist lists.

Honestly, clients are trying to do too much, IMHO. All I really want is:

offline access to all of my favorited songs

ability to filter by album and other metadata (ie, by artist, and so forth)

playlists

ability to (play in order / shuffle) all songs or all songs in a playlist (and no hard "200 track limit" that some clients have)

I know this turned into a bit of a vent post, which wasn't my intent.

Injection molded bead seams

I have some injection molded beads (hard plastic) that have a clear/obvious seam and a bit of a sprue. I'd like to grind it down somehow - I don't have a lot of experience grinding/polishing plastic, was wondering what others would do. Unfortunately, I do not have any test beads, so I have to proceed cautiously. I briefly considered scraping with an xacto... but besides being tedious I won't have a great grip on the bead itself.

They have a glossy finish - so anything I do I'd want to restore that finish or impact it lightly.

Maytag A710S - upper tub seal leaking

Yes, this is a 40+ year old washer, but I've fixed it before, and I can fix it again, I think.

Washing machine started leaking water - I decided it was the tub seal based on where water was (all along the seal) and not from anywhere higher (ie, fill tube does not leak and no water leaks over the edge.

So I did what I needed to do - replaced the seal (had to clean the edges of both outer tub parts).

Still leaking, in fact I think I made it worse.

Is there anything I could be doing wrong? I'm pretty sure I oriented the seal properly - the side with the groove, I installed against the tub.
