Weirdest or strangest covers that big artists have done?

Weirdest or strangest covers that big artists have done?

I’m a Muse enjoyer and recently found out they covered The Smiths classic and it’s strange - they took this quiet gentle song and covered it like alt rock - piercing crunchy guitars, guitar solo and Matt Bellamy belting his ass out. It’s ridiculous and I kind of love it.

Any other examples of weird covers?

Hot take: Using "Hang The DJ" dating service is unethical and selfish

Watched the episode recently I don’t get why people see it as the rare feel-good episode. It’s world where it’s tehnologically possible to accurately digitally simulate a person and tech companies ran millions of tests trapping these consciousnesses into unpleasant randomised trials in order to improve dating app match accurary. That’s pretty messed up.

It’s undeniable that cookies trapped in dating app think they’re real people and they feel - they suffer, they feel pain and heartbreak going though cold heartless randomised trial. I personally don’t care if they’re switched off at end of simulation but their suffering absolutely matters.

So when you sign up for this dating service you're subjecting your digital copy cookie for subjective years of suffering so you can find your next partner easier. That’s pretty unethical and selfish. Let’s not act like it’s impossible to meet a partner without it, people been doing it for hundreds of years.

Examples of Fantano completely misunderstanding lyrics?

I recently watched Fantano review of 1975 album and was surprised when he completely misunderstood lyrics of "It's Not Living (If It's Not with You)" and thought it was about a person, when it’s clearly about addiction. Like, lyrics talk about "twenty-stone monkey" and sweating and collapsing veins, it’s not subtle.

Are there any other examples of this?

If you could have one artist cover a full album by another artist, what would it be?

Musicians always cover songs but never full albums (for understandable practical reasons). If you could have musical artist cover any full album by other artist living or dead, what would it be?

For me personally it would be following:

Spoon covering Surfer Rosa by Pixies

Strokes covering Sketches of Spain by Miles Davis

Geese covering Melodrama by Lorde

Wilco covering Meadowlands by Wrens

Parquet Courts covering Sound of Silver by LCD Soundsystem

What about you?

One thing I don’t understand about Oz Pearlman situation

I understand him lying and spreading misinformation about how human psychology and minds work in order to increase his business and fame. That all makes sense and is nothing new. But why does almost everyone go along with it, especially when uses it to sell books? I get it for comedy podcasts and news shows segments using him for entertainment, but even when more reputable mainstream outlets like New York Times or 60 Minutes cover him, they completely enable his bullshit.

It’s baffling. Does everybody actually believe that mentalism is real skill? It’s equivalent of Uri Geller claiming he learned telekinesis over 30 years of practice and everybody just going along with it for some reason.

And before somebody writes "All magicians deceive", when magician makes rabbit appear in hat, nobody in audience actually believes that magician has a literal ability to teleport rabbits. There is no David Copperfield fans who will argue with you that he literally has ability to make buildings disappear or to fly.
