5080 PSU check? Suggestion please

Hey folks, I want to run a quick question past ya. The 5080 build I’m working on includes a free Gamdias Helios P2 PSU, is this sufficient? The builder has assured me it’s fine, but I am hesitant, I can pay to upgrade to an Asrock Steel Legend 1000watt unit but I’m not very sure.

Is 850 good? I’ve run the question through a lot of variables and still not sure. I don’t plan on OC at all, but I don’t mind investing in a good PSU.

In fact partially I’m getting nice deal on this system so I was gonna use the free PSU then upgrade to something nicer later.

Seems like this an amazing deal? Anyone have experience ordering from Newegg? Andromeda Insights V3 Gaming PC Elite 50 - RTX 5070 Ti 16GB GDDR7 | Ryzen 7 9800X3D 4.7 GHz (5.2 GHz Turbo Boost) | 32GB DDR5 6000MHz | 2TB Gen4 SSD | 850W Gold PSU | ARGB Fans | Wi-Fi + BT | Win 11

Been on the hunt for a good PC to get back to PC gaming, I know A.I. does great work and are backed up. How do you folks feel about Newegg? Price seems pretty good?

Gamdias?? PSUs & AIO's!

Why are they using such cheap PSUs and AIO's on $2-5k plus units, something is very off with this. Essentially if you customize to avoid this brand 1) you costs go way up 2) While one can make an argument for cheap AIO especially since some are free with CPU.

How the hell is this company sending out units using such cheap measures?

Please correct me if wrong. I'd like to hear from folks who went all default and see if you upgraded your Gamdias parts, or PSU at least before I submit my order. Partially I want to trust the process but I also have severe reservations now.

5070ti vs 5080!

Getting back to PC gaming at the worst time possible, but I won’t let it stop me! I’m working on a build for a few games I play frequently; Arc Raiders, Diablo 4, PoE 2, CS2, Tarkov, BF6, and single player experiences like RE games specifically I want to use the new engine it looks amazing and of course Crimson Desert. I want to enjoy smooth gameplay but I’m totally ok with 1440p resolution as long as it’s fluid. A lot of negative mentions of 5070ti have me wondering if the 5080 is just a better choice.

That being said I’m aware of the pros and cons if got 5070ti it’s tempting because I can get 64GB of RAM for about 350$ whereas in the past we typically go by GPU alone with the recent price changes I feel perhaps 5070ti with 64GB might be better for my needs. Although I would say I’m roughly 50/50 between MP and single player games.

I’d like to hear from folks who have experience with either of those cards. Geek away folks! Thanks for reading!

Edit; Want to thank you all for helping me brainstorm, this community is absolutely amazing. Being able to brainstorm after weeks of reading and watching reviews, benchmarks is helping me so much.

W sub-Reddit, W all of you! Keep it going!

Help-Vote-Modify my build before ordering! Do I prioritize the RTX 5080 GPU core count or a 64GB system RAM buffer? (1440p target) Would use some input to see which system is preferable.

I’m looking to grab a prebuilt system from Andromeda Insights for high-refresh 1440p. I’ve narrowed it down to two specific hardware configurations, but I’m torn on where to allocate the hardware balance.

Main Games: Crimson Desert, Arc Raiders (my primary extraction shooter focus), Path of Exile 2, Tarkov, Battlefield 6, and Diablo 4. I also want to future-proof for upcoming Capcom titles like Resident Evil Code Veronica and current RE9.

Here are the two spec sheets:

Build 1: The GPU Focus

  • CPU: Ryzen 7 9800X3D
  • GPU: NVIDIA RTX 5080 16GB
  • RAM: 32GB (2x16GB) DDR5 6000MHz
  • Storage: 2TB Gen4 NVMe SSD
  • PSU: 1000W 80+ Gold

Build 2: The Memory Focus

  • CPU: Ryzen 7 9800X3D
  • GPU: NVIDIA RTX 5070 Ti 16GB
  • RAM: 64GB (2x32GB) DDR5 6000MHz
  • Storage: 2TB Gen4 NVMe SSD
  • PSU: 850W 80+ Gold

My Dilemma: Since I’m staying strictly at 1440p, I want to make sure I’m picking the right hardware buffer for unoptimized engines. Targeting good single player experience while also managing effective frame rate for MP. Open to feedback.

  • The RTX 5080 config gives me maximum raw graphics horsepower for native, un-upscaled frames in heavy engines like Arc Raiders (UE5) and Battlefield 6. However, it limits me to a standard 32GB system memory layout. Will 32GB choke on Path of Exile 2's endgame memory cache behavior or trigger standby memory stutters when things get chaotic?
  • The RTX 5070 Ti config drops my graphical overhead slightly, but the 64GB system memory pool acts as a complete safety net against asset-streaming issues, background apps, and memory-heavy engines out of the box. (Tarkov friendly)

Any general feedback is welcome!

For a 1440p display layout running these specific games, should I prioritize the wider GPU core array or the massive system RAM overhead?

Thanks for the help!

Best GPU for FPS build?

I’m thinking;

AMD 9070XT
Nvidia 5070Ti
Nvidia 5080

Slightly leaning AMD 9070XT or 5070Ti, I play mostly your general fare; Tarkov, Quake, Marathon, Battlefield 6, Doom, Arc Raiders, etc.

(For this build you can think targeting 1440p and smooth gameplay.)

I don’t need crazy detail but I would appreciate the best possible performance and I’m not strictly bound by a price limit. I’ve just been curious about AMD.

5080 vs 5090 Path Tracing

Question is pretty straight forward, will the 5080 be enough or should one really be looking at the 5090 for Path Tracing? It’s honestly more impressive to me than Ray Tracing, I know that sounds silly but blows my mind how it makes some media look.

Feel free to share your opinions/experiences!

Mid-30s career pivot: Hospitality + Music Tech background — go back for Psychology, Biomedical Engineering, Nursing, or something else for stability?

Hi r/careerguidance (and any other relevant subs),
I’m in my mid-30s at a major career crossroads and feeling nervous about long-term stability. I’d really appreciate honest perspectives from people who’ve pivoted later in life.

Background:
• 20+ years in hospitality/culinary (line cook → Kitchen Manager → Sous Chef). I stepped back from advancing further due to burnout, though I still work it on and off.

• 15-20 years in Music Tech: live sound, sound design consulting, audio effects, MIDI, setting up recording studios, plus social media and marketing for music-related work.

• Last 5-7 years I’ve been the primary caregiver for an aging family member.

• In my 20s I completed core classes + partial Psychology degree at community college (currently 3.6 GPA). I had to pause when my father passed away and family needs took over. I’ve always wanted to work in Psychology-related fields.

Other strengths:
• Lifelong hands-on Computer Science experience (fixing/building computers since I was a kid, studio tech setups, troubleshooting hardware/software).

• I learn technical concepts quickly and enjoy problem-solving that blends creativity + tech.
I now have some funding opportunities to go back to school and can declare a major after finishing prerequisites. I’ve researched the job market a lot. Friends and family are in healthcare and strongly suggest nursing/medical routes for stability and demand. However, my real interests lean toward Psychology, Biomedical Engineering, or similar interdisciplinary paths.

My big questions:
• Given my age, background, and need for solid job stability, is it realistic/worth it to finish a degree now? Any success stories from similar pivots?

• Psychology vs. Nursing vs. Biomedical Engineering (or other suggestions like Health Informatics, UX/UI with my audio/tech background, or something else)? Which offers the best ROI and work-life balance?

• How much do my transferable skills (audio tech, troubleshooting, kitchen management, social media/marketing) help when applying for jobs or further schooling?

• Any red flags I should watch for in these fields right now?

• Recommended community college → university paths, certifications, or alternative routes (bootcamps, etc.) that could bridge faster?
Thank you so much for reading this far. Any advice, personal experiences, or resources would mean a lot right now.

(I’m on the east coast I’m open to relocation and remote opportunities-education-training.)

Experienced builder seeking GPU advice – 5090/5080 vs 5070 Ti vs AMD for 1440p mix (Tarkov, Arc, RPGs, scenic titles)

I’ve been building PCs for a very long time. I know what I need for most parts and tend to take my time choosing components for the best balance of performance and thermals.
I get that the RTX 5090 would be amazing, but it’s way too expensive right now (and prices have been inflated). I could grab a 5080, or wait and see if the 5090 drops closer to MSRP again.

That said, I’m also looking at AMD options and more affordable Nvidia cards like the 5070 Ti. I don’t need maxed-out 4K everything, but I do love scenic/open-world games like Crimson Desert (great benchmark for visuals and RT).
Daily drivers: Tarkov, Arc Raiders, WoW, Diablo 2/4, Battlefield. I also play lots of modern narrative/RPGs that lean heavily into ray/path tracing.

I have most of the build figured out — just need help matching a GPU to my case/thermal setup. Gaming is a hobby, so I’m flexible and don’t mind spending a bit more for future-proofing.
What would you recommend?

I just got a new Puffco Peak and I’m trying to dial it in for rosin. The preset colors are:
• 🔵 Blue (Low): 490°F
• 🟢 Green (Medium): 510°F
• 🔴 Red (High): 530°F
• ⚪ White (Peak): 590°F

I’ve been doing best with a cold start on green or blue, sometimes stepping up to red for a small hit if the rosin is drier or older. With really stubborn/old batches I’ve had to go to red to get a decent melt, but I know 530°F starts pushing terps.

I prefer rosin for the entourage effect, but I’ve been defaulting to sugar lately because it’s more predictable. Is the new Peak just not ideal for rosin, or could storage/age be a bigger factor?

Curious what temps and techniques people are having success with, especially for live rosin/jam/thumbprints.
Thanks!
