Hello, the car is a 23 year old diesel Mercedes 270cdi 2003. I have had it for 10 months. It runs and I don't have any errors or check lights on the dashboard. Only on a cold start I have a ticking noise for about 3 minutes, then after it warms disappears or at least is not much loud compared to cold. I have driven it 8000 km and I have added 600ml of oil, sometimes smokes blue. But turbo is oiled too and i dont know is it pcv,turbo or engine. Today was my first oil change since I have had it. I did not see any metal particles in the old oil and in the old oil filter. However, through the oil filler cap I saw this wear on the shaft. The second photo is the back side, it is smooth there.
How bad is it, what caused it, can anyone guess how much longer it will last and what will happen if I continue to drive it like this?
If i decide to repair it- what are the steps?
remove cover
check other shaft for wear
check rocker arms for wear
check chain
if other shaft, rocker arms, chain are good i only need one new shaft, new lifters for it and gasket? thats all? do i miss something else to check/replace?
