Street or garage parking realities for houseless travelers? (Car camping)

I'll preface this post by saying you can judge me all you want for willingly choosing to live in my car, or for choosing NYC of all places. I like NYC, but rent is expensive. I live nearby-ish, job opportunities are nice and in just a week I managed to get a job in NYC, all I have to do is show up. Just don't have a home. It's just a placeholder for now until I come up with a better plan.

I'd rather be smart, work, invest in my savings, and live life on my own terms than stay home where it's safer in comparison to what I want to do. "Just get a job where you live!" no.

I'm trying to escape a rock bottom depression situation, I'm at my absolute worst. If I don't do something about my life I will seriously end up in a hospital again. That's just the surface but oh well. I don't owe people anything anymore. I'm trying to make something of myself. Ive got family in NYC so I know I won't be lonely. I'm not afraid of the move; I'm more afraid of what I'll do if I don't go. No one but me knows how it feels to be stuck being a 21 yr old NEET for the past 4 years. It's soul crushing. Im a social person at heart, and I've quite literally forgotten how to interact with people. It's insane.

My question is: what's living in NYC like for van/car lifers? Do you get bothered when you're trying to sleep? What's public transportation like?

Thanks in advance.

Any fellow post punk/alt metal music enjoyers or musicians around?

Hi, 21F here! I'm very much into The Police, The smiths, Rammstein, Interpol, Death cult, sevendust, everything everything, etc etc so many bands I could name. I'm into all sorts of musical genres but those are my go-to's!

I really want to try to meet people in that similar interest crowd. I recent started picking up guitar and it's not going well - but I play piano/keyboard and I like to sing, so I have at least a few things going for me haha.

It's hard making friends (especially as a young adult that's not currently in college), so I thought maybe I'd have better chances if I made a post here. Ive always dreamed of seeing an underground garage band play live, or just any band play live in general. I don't even know where to begin with making friends anymore or how to find events/Like-minded people near me. I'm not big on social media so I always miss out on any online announcements for shows and whatnot.

New to singing, rate my voice

Hi! I really feel like there's nothing special with my own voice, I don't like how it sounds, I feel like it's very monotone in a way? Not sure. Really want some outsider feedback. My dream has always been to start a cover band, but I'm really not confident in my general singing ability. Might as well stick to learning acoustic guitars than singing lolololllll thanks in advance

21F, being anything at all is exhausted. Nomads unite!

I, much like everyone else, was born into this world with the expectance for greatness, for what I could be worth, for what I could contribute, could give. Not by my parents (although my mom is a highly motivated individual), but by society itself.

I just want to be free. The guilt of possibly not wanting to go to college is so heavy. My mom (first gen immigrant) fought so hard to ensure that we had every opportunity possible. Piano classes, guitar classes, singing classes, swimming classes, ballet, you name it. I wish I could exist without the pressure of money. The system disgusts me to my core.

Society locks peace and freedom behind paywalls. For the past 4 years and counting I've been stuck in paralyzed in fear of making the wrong decision - but not doing anything is already the wrong path. I've wasted my early youth just sitting and doing absolutely nothing. Just fearful. I've traveled to 7 countries, I learned how to speak 4 languages, but I still feel so behind in my life only because I don't have a degree. I don't have a career path. I don't know what my purpose is.

I don't want to end of a bum but God- the idea of living out my days under the sun around good people, in some place far from the pressure, sounds like heaven. What's all this for anyways? Everything is a fake concept, isn't it? Performative, money driven, and evil. Who the hell cares about climbing a corporate ladder? I used to, I used to really want money, but only out of necessity. All the dollar bills in the world could burn for all I care.

My soul belongs to the Earth. To the wind, the soil, the trees, the animals, to kindness and to nature. Not to souless companies, endless debt or degrees. I wish I could just indulge in a slower life but it's impossible to do so without feeling like a damn failure.

Call me a hippie or whatever but the idea of being out in the road with my things and a van just sounds so enticing. I could go backpacking through different countries, make memories, sing/busk for money maybe. "What's next?" Hell if I know and that's the point: To be anything at all is exhausting.

I just wish I could spend the rest of my life traveling America, traveling the WORLD, with all of my things and stop worrying about what other people think. Just stop caring so much about a degree. Just living on the road. I've always been an oddball, the "strange girl", and I'll always be that person. I've always preferred things to be chaotic and wild than uniform and dreadful.

But at the same time I think: "Okay, you've had your fun, you can't possibly keep that sort of lifestyle up your whole life. You need a house, you need a place no one can take away from you, you need stability."

That's the part that scares me. With no real job, no money, you're essentially homeless. Can't pay for a flight overseas, can't get a job overseas, you're fucked and stranded. That's the only downside keeping me inside my apartment withering away as i'm consumed by all these choices.

Fellow nomads, how do you do it? 😭 Let's keep in touch!

Manhattan VAs needed for Banana fish dub

Hi! Im currently working on a paid fandubbing project for a manga series/anime called Banana Fish. One of the male leads, Ash Lynx, is originally from Manhattan and so we're looking to find someone who's originally from the area. We are looking to diversify our talent pool and scout people who are actually from the surrounding NYC areas given the character's background. Thank you in advance.

For more information, please check out the official casting call link down below for more in depth information: https://www.castingcall.club/projects/fandub-banana-fish

(fyi you don't have to ACTUALLY be from Manhattan, but I thought it'd be a fun idea to post this here regardless. Thank you once again!)

Local jobs/recruiting resources?

Alrighty so let's get into the meat of all this. 21F, trying to moving to Boston because my small town in PA has nothing to offer me, walkable cities call out to me like a $5 McDonald's meal on a diet, I have some decent savings, but I don't have a job offer secured. That's about half the battle.

I've tried LinkedIn, Indeed, hell even Craigslist. Are there any hiring agencies that can connect me to jobs, or is my resume so bad that I'm not getting any call backs?

I was in the military (honorably discharged), I have extensive retail experience but I'm trying to escape retail hell right now. At one point I really wanted to be a hospital worker but it's such a hard industry to get into if you're not an RN even though I have a BLS cert. I considered working at an airport but again, no callbacks. I feel like there's a very limited amount of things I'm truly qualified for, and the jobs I do qualify for require 9-5 office work. I prefer odd schedules, or maybe even 12x3's. I value my freedom too much to give up my time to a job that'll take away more than half my day. Considered just living off of random gigs but my anxiety will skyrocket if I don't have a stable income.

I know I'm being picky, I know I really shouldn't be, but it's so hard to stay motivated when nothing feels like it's working out. Any ideas? Suggestions? Comments? Concerns? Criticism? I guess I'm really just looking for advice, I suppose..

Desperate for advice

I'm not particularly obese. I'm overweight, yes, but thank fuck I'm not nearly as fat as I should be for the type of junk I eat. I have a habit of overeating, or using food as an emotional anchor.

My whole life I've tried to lose weight. I'm 150lbs right now. I'm 4ft11, so that kind of weight looks MASSIVE on me. I had to delete TikTok because I was comparing myself to other girls. It was destroying what little confidence I have.

I hate how my thighs touch no matter what. I hate my lunch lady arms. I hate my fat face. I hate stomach. I hate not feeling comfortable in my own skin. Never in my life have I known what it feels like to be 100% happy and confident in my own body.

I'm going to start a journey where I try to change that. I don't know how, but I'm tired of it. I'm so so tired. I want to achieve the body I've always dreamed of having.

I could really use some advice on what I should do. I already know I should see a therapist and I'm working on it, but other than that - I've got no clue. I've tried going to the gym but I have no idea what I'm doing half the time. I don't have a car anymore so I can't go to the gym anymore anyways. I have PCOS, so that just makes everything ten times more difficult. I really really don't know what to do.

Current routine is none. Current diet is whatever's in the fridge. Caloric intake is probably around 1,600/day. Im 21, female, 4ft"11, 150lbs. Dream physique is to look dainty. Basically I just want half of the fat I carry to be GONE. Main trigger is my thick thunder thighs. I've tried diets and workouts so many times but I keep falling back into my old ways. It's hard to afford healthy food, too.

21F / Like-minded individuals, come my way!

Basically the title.

Some connections are just really not good for you, and in my case - I think I carry 70% of the blame. Not to sound like a wet wipe but I don't feel good enough for a lot of different people, so I tend to distance myself from peeps or fuck things up somehow. It's a habit I'm trying to break.

I've also become a really angry and sour person, and instead of fighting it, im just feeding into it. It's helping me be less of a people pleaser, less of a punching bag, but now my entire demographic has changed.

Some things about me would be that I love playing zombie games/co-op horror, I'm from the US, I love getting yelled at by toxic men in game lobbies because I, too, am a bit toxic — I give back the energy I receive, and I've met some really despicable yet entertaining people because of it. I love those kind of souless bozos, lol.

I used to pride myself on being this sweet, innocent "I'm not like you" type of girl, but I've learned that it was a front. Turns out I'm just as miserable and depraved as a lot of the people I used to criticize. I stopped playing pretend and even though I feel all dark and twisted, im happier for it. I'm not lying to myself anymore. I still wish I was as happy and carefree as I used to be but oh well. Life after 18 genuinely is just a downhill spiral until you find some ground. Haven't found mine so I'm still free falling lmao

Anyways. If you're a sick, dark humoured, miserable yet loyal type of mf, send messages my way. Id love to meet you. I only play on PC. Also, I don't use """normal""" social media. Just steam and reddit.

Edit: I don't have an age preference exactly, ignore the tag. Just don't be a weirdo and we'll be fine 👍

Foreigner wanting to move to Moscow... Some advice, please?

Heyaaa! I was recently accepted into a university in Moscow that offers podfak courses for learning Russian, but there's a bit of an issue... The school doesn't offer job support :'(

My question is: how hard is it to find a job as a foreigner under a full-time 1 yr visa? Will I be able to find a job at all? I only speak A2 level Russian. I'm American-brazilian if that helps at all to give you guys a better idea of my demographic. I speak 3 languages fluently (Native English, Portuguese, Spanish) so I was thinking maybe I could teach, but I have no degree/qualifications beyond being fluent.

/

Before people ask: Yes, I've been to Moscow before. Yes, I have friends there. Yes, I have a place to stay. No, I haven't been anywhere else other than Moscow. (Although when my Russian is much better I'd love to visit rural towns and see "real Russia")

I would love to commit myself to this whole thing, but I can't live on my savings forever. If I decide to teach online - that's a whole different story with a whole new set of VPN and restriction problems. I really can't go ahead with accepting the school's offer if I can't guarantee I'll be able to work with something for the majority of the time I'll be in Russia.
