ADHD university/college content on social media is making me lose my mind

Here’s 3 examples of discrete AI or productivity app advertisements. I found these examples in the first minute of searching “adhd study”.

I’ve literally been having the worst, most soul-crushing and burnout-inducing year of my fucking life because of my ADHD symptoms. Sometimes finding other ADHDers talking about their experiences at uni or college can make me feel less alone, and like less of a failure. Hearing the advice and tips that people give in online ADHD communities have helped me so many times.

But there’s nothing more frustrating than trying to find connection & support, and being met with nothing but:
- people trying to sell you their course or coaching service
- undisclosed (or disclosed in the fine print) AI or useless “productivity app” advertisements
- influencers that toooootaalllyyy have ADHD giving the most useless, basic bitch “study hacks”. they use the exact same script, the exact same cadence, and are always playing with slime or some random object

Am I crazy for getting so angry at this? Having ADHD sucks enough, and having ADHD while in uni or college sucks even harder. I’m just so sick of people trying to make money off of us, and making it harder to find content that isn’t slop.

How often are you expected to talk to a new gf?

Sorry i know the title makes me sound like a robot, i couldn’t think of a different way to phrase it 😭

Im basically trying to figure out how much time a relationship actually takes up. Like when you first start dating a girl, how often are you usually texting/calling/seeing each other?

Obviously every relationship is different, im just trying to work out if i realistically have enough time for one right now or if id end up not giving someone enough attention.

And i guess more generally, at what point do you stop waiting for your life to be “perfect” before you start dating and just… start dating

What assessment format do you prefer?

I used to hate in-person tests & only wanted to do hand-in assessments. But i’m ngl, i’ve realised that i actually prefer to do in-person tests bc you can just get it over and done with. With hand-in assessments the suffering gets prolonged

Anyone know when course offerings for 2028 will be released?

The switch to semesters is great because trimesters suck ass, but I'm also stressing because it means I can't fully plan my course progression. I'm doing an unconventional course progression, so having this info early as possible would be great, but there's not a lot of info online.

Has anyone heard anything about when/how info about the 2028 offerings will be released? If they're released in late 2027 im actually going to become ceiling decoration I NEED TO PLAN

does MyPlan barely work for anyone else?

maybe i’m a chophoe who’s doing it wrong but i stg every time i try to use MyPlan it’s glitchy as fuck and makes it abysmally unclear whether or not a course i’ve picked for a particular term ACTUALLY is the ideal course progression.

what makes it a bit more complicated is that I’m planning on doing 2 courses a term until semmies come back, where i’ll do 3 courses a sem. Im also in the process of getting prior learning approved, which will hopefully slice 12 UOC for free electives & 12 UOC for general education off my graduation requirements.

Plus they’ve released basically no info about course offerings for 2028 🥲😔 so planning ahead is basically impossible fml

anyways long ahh post aside ✌️💔 any commiseration/advice/sympathy would be appreciated bros

In total, how long do you spend on a 1-hour lecture?

This includes time spent watching it + time spent studying the content in that lecture/taking notes.

Just asking to gauge where ppl are at & whats actually realistic vs unattainable lol. I'm doing biology and geoscience rn and I'm ngl i spend like 4 hours each lecture & I feel super slow 😔

University, ADHD & Anxiety: How the hell do you do it without crumpling under pressure?

Currently in my 1st year & 2nd term of a new Bachelors degree that I started this year. Since graduating high school in 2022, I knew that my university years werent going to be easy in the slightest. I spent the next 3 years (‘23, ‘24, ‘25) doing 2 different degrees in fields that I hated, performed poorly in, but because of my lack of faith in my skill I didn’t feel I could do anything else.

Now that I’ve started my new degree, I feel so confident that this is the field I want to work in for the rest of my life. Learning new things in labs & lectures are so rewarding because I don’t just want to graduate, get a piece of paper, and go — I really want to absorb as much as I can while I’m here.

The problem is that my severe anxiety and ADHD (which I only just got medicated for a few months ago) is like a giant, steep cliff blocking my path. The same lecture that my peers might watch in 1 hour, takes notes on and remember/understand 75% of the content in, would take me comparatively 2.5 hours to watch and takes notes on just so I can remember the same amount. I can feel the difference in effort my peers put in vs my effort for the exact same result so keenly, and it’s hard to not feel shame in myself.

Because of my slower learning needs, I’ve decided to extend my 3 year degree into 4 years. It’ll still technically be a full-time course load, but just an underloaded one. Even though I know this is the right decision for my learning & my mental health, I don’t know how to feel ok about myself. I can’t help but think “If I started this degree right out of high school, I would have been graduated last year”. I also want to do an Honours year, so I’ll end up graduating in 2030 at the age of 26. One of my classmates is 18 and in her first year of this degree as well, and she keeps making comments about how old I am (I’m 22) and it’s just compounded my feelings of shame, and sometimes more worrisome thoughts.

Sorry for the massively long-winded post, I just needed to get this off my chest even if only 1 person reads it. If anyone has advice, or has been in a similar situation before, or even just words of encouragement I would really appreciate hearing from you
