Professionally appropriate to block your calendar during your commute time?

I work with people in many time zones, including west coast (i am east). with the RTO mandate, my commute is about an hour and 15 minutes, with a set train schedule thats like every 30 minutes...so commuting is a bit challenging.

is it professionally appropriate to block my calendar during commute times? so that I am not stuck in the office until late and getting home super late? I feel like its easier than telling people not to book meetings (unless an emergency or important).

what do other commuters do?

imposter syndrome is real. I feel like im just hoarding money waiting for the shoe to drop. anyone else feel like they cant enjoy their success?

I was in consulting for 10+ years....always have the dark cloud of utilization and billables hanging over my head. single income provider for my family in VHCOL city. I've since left consulting and am at FAANG, but layoffs can happen at any time. I dont live above my means, but constantly feeling like I have to hoard money in the event shit hits the fan.

anyone else feeling like this? cant even enjoy my success, constantly worried about what might happen tomorrow

how do we think EA will handle the drivetrain characteristics that drivers are complaining about in their cars currently?

do you think F1 27 will come out with the same drivetrain characteristics all the drivers are complaining about in the cars currently? will we have to downshift on straights to save battery?

it seems like they were able to bypass it by not offering a 26

[Google] does ID verification come after hiring committee? or before? or doesnt matter?

My recruiter had positive feedback, and was trying to get me through the hiring committee last week. Im not certain when the committee will meet (or have already met). it sounded like he was trying to get me into a friday committee (again, my hypothesis).

this morning (monday) i got an email to complete ID verification.

is this process after HC? before HC? or does it not matter? There will not be any team matching round, this is for a very specific role in a specific team

Review my Google L7 offer

Non SWE L7 role, HCOL city (NYC)

Base $288k

Bonus 25%

sign-on $30k

RSU: $450k over 4 years

JD shows a base pay range of $240-326k. When I asked to bump base to $300, they said no.

is there any more meat on the bones? or do I leave it at that? This is going through Hiring Committee this week, so its possible the offer could even get lower?

Need some help on negotiating Google offer

L7 role. base ceiling is $320k according to the JD. 25% bonus, $400k RSU.

offer: $288k base. (which this plus bonus is a less than what I am getting paid now).

Should I counter at 300? should i counter at 320 and expect to land lower?

this is my first time being offered something with RSU's, which theoretically puts me at a higher TC, but id have to wait for it to vest and such.

Does Google set up time for a call to tell you bad news?

I just went through 3 rounds of interviews for an L7 role. The recruiter wants to set up 15 min to catch up with me today.

Does that normally mean good news or bad news?

The reason I'm asking is because I've had another organization go out of their way to call me with bad news

edit: moving into offer phase!

Looking for a specific kind of replacement gun - with a quick release

I have this electric pressure washer: https://www.amazon.com/WHOLESUN-3000PSI-Electric-Pressure-Driveways/dp/B09QV82J8B/ref=ast_sto_dp_puis

the gun is broken and I need to replace it, seems to have a specific type of gun with a quick release. I am searching amazon and everything seems to be a screw in connector

can anyone point me in the right direction as to what kind of spray gun i can get to replace? doesnt have to be the same brand (the brand doesnt seem to have replacement parts)....i just need something that will work with the quick connector

is the other option getting a new gun / hose combo?

CPS showed up to my house after i reported inappropriate behavior between my daughter and another student to the school, despite me telling the school i didnt want to escalate this - is this normal protocol? can use some advice

a few days ago, my daughter (4yo) told me about how her friend (another girl) touched her in her private parts between her legs in the bathroom at school (pre-k 3). without making a huge deal about it to scare her, my wife immediately reminded her about privacy, saying no, no touching private parts, etc......we didnt want it to escalate into possible trauma if we can handle it in a more calm manner. we felt we delivered the message clearly and hopefully landed well.

the next day, my wife immediately reported this to the director of the school. her biggest request was NOT to talk to my daughter about it directly. we didnt want to escalate it or scare her, that they should do a broader class education about it, they talk to the parents of the other girl, as well as increasing their attention on the kids....especially in the bathroom.

today, CPS showed up at my door because of an "anonymous report" and asking to talk to me / my wife, and my daughter about the incident. we reminded her that WE made the initial report to the school, and then declined any investigation because we absolutely didnt want anyone talking to my daughter about this. She left. there's only 3 people that could possibly know about this: us, the school, the other parents (if they even found out)......so its really not that anonymous

now my wife is spiraling, concerned that things are going to escalate and possibly get, that this will turn out bad for my daughter in the sense of being "marked", and now we have a folder at CPS with our name on it

i feel like this is routine, and that the school was the one that reported this. My wife will talk to the director tomorrow about this.

does anyone have any insight from the school side or the CPS side as to what possibly is going on behind the scenes, and what i could be possibly looking at having to deal with? if anything. we dont want to report anyone or cause a big deal. we want the school to know so they can make changes, and we want the other kids parents to know.....thats all.
