Anyone track for a long time?

I’ve been tracking for about a year now. Not really sure when to stop- I mean part of me feels like having the data is good- we’re on 1 nap but still I feel like what if sleep needs change and I need to adjust? But I also feel like after 1 year or onto 1 nap we’re good and no need to track really. Plus no one I know tracks!

Schedule check

Total sleep average is 13h 20 min. Doing a scheduled w 13h 15 min.

Schedule is sleep 8pm-715am nap 12-2pm

For nap I put in crib 5 min before 12 and she falls asleep in 5-10 min and I wake after 2h.

For night, she falls asleep anywhere between 3 seconds and 30 min! I usually have her in crib 745-750 (planning for her to fall asleep in 10) and she’ll either fall asleep right away or it’ll take up to 30 min.

I have only been doing this the last week so- when she falls asleep right away the night ends up being close to 11.5h. When it takes her 30 min it’ll be closer to 11. Also, when it takes her 30 min to fall asleep, those mornings are hard to wake her! I turn the sound machine off, turn lights on, say her name…and it takes a bit to wake her. When usually just turning the sound machine off will wake her.

Any thoughts or feedback or should I just stick to it?

Thank you all!

More general sleep schedule questions

  1. To determine how to spread sleep across naps and nights- is it recommended to look at the total sleep and divide that, or shorten that number? I’ve seen both recommendations. So for example, if we average 13h 10min- would I just call that 13h? Or 12.5? Or do exactly 13 10?

  2. Should naps be 2hrs? Is that what an average baby needs at minimum? Like you couldn’t just do 0 nap and 13 at night. How do you know the nap minimum?

  3. If I account for 11h overnight, what is done if baby wakes at 10h or 10.5?
Same for naps- if 2h is accounted for, does bedtime change if it’s 1.5h?

  4. When is it recommended to let baby “sleep in”? After a rough night? If sick?

  5. Does taking the average really work?? Sometimes our nights are 10.5h and sometimes 12+ and I wake baby. I’m hesitant to think waking at an exact length will stop the shorter nights?

  6. When a nap is 2h- do you start from time in crib or time eyes are shut?

  7. If a nap/night is shorter, do you let baby “catch up” and have then a longer nap or night?

  8. Is it common to wake baby from nap and night? Is that what is recommended?

  9. I see taking Cara babies recommends 4-5h ww for a baby starting 1 nap. Is longer ok??

Thanks guys 🥹

Almost 1 yo- tweak schedule?

I’ve been trying to do a consistent 12 nap with a 730-740 in crib. Usually we get at least 11h overnight but the last week or 2 have gotten 10-10.5. Sleep consultants tell me she’s overtired and I should do bedtime earlier. Sleeptrain Reddit says undertired (3 nights this week took baby 30 min to fall asleep! 2/3 came with a shorter night).

Just looking for advice- if I should make any changes or cap nights. I usually cap naps at 2h 15 min (used to cap at 2.5 but idk- didn’t seem to change anything anyway). Baby usually lately has been waking on own from naps.

Or if we could be going thru a leap? And this is all normal?

Generic sleep questions

When people say bedtime at 730- does that mean in crib at 7:30? Or hopefully asleep by 730? Or start bedtime at 730?

I always allow my baby to sleep 2h 15 min capped for her nap. Sometimes it’s only like an hr 20 min. What should I do in this case? Bring bedtime earlier or keep it the same?

Sometimes my baby wakes for an hour just hanging in the crib in the middle of the night. This doesn’t happen often but every now and then. When this happens- do i let her sleep in? Baby seems to function best with at least 10.75 hrs at night.

Are most people waking their baby in the morning? Or letting them sleep as long as they want? My baby does anywhere between 10.75-12.5 hrs. If I started to wake her at 11.5 would it even out? Or does it not work like that?

Thank you.

Anyone have a 10 month old on one nap?

Anyone?

My baby has really been fighting the second nap for almost a week now- the last 3 days completely skipped it and had a 7.5 hr wake window. Nights were ok it seemed but the first night was 12 hrs then the next was 11.5 then the other was 11. So don’t really love that. Today I am intentionally trying 1 nap. Not quite sure how to make the schedule but…

Sleep experts- I need your thoughts. Inconsistent sleep

10 months tomorrow
Following 3/3.25-3.5/4

My baby has never been a great napper. Always 30 min naps until we went onto 2 naps. Nights were always ok.

2 naps threw me a little off because baby suddenly started longer naps. I didn’t know how long to let them go! On 3 naps nap total was 1.5-2 hrs but night would be 12 hrs. 2 naps I tried making the first shorter (an hour) but the second would always be like 30 min. I started on 3/3/4. So I started after maybe a week to let the first nap go 90 min and the second nap up to an hour. I would usually wake from the first and only sometimes on the second since baby normally woke on own happy after 40 or so min. It sometimes went an hour. Nights still ok. Then one day baby completely refused the second nap- so we had a 1 nap day and I decided then to make the second ww 3.25 hrs. This was like 2 months ago.

So we’ve been doing 1.5 first nap and 45min-1 hr second nap but 2 weeks ago baby caught a cold and that week of sleep was not great.

Now the first nap is getting a bit harder to get- and I want to say for the last few weeks instead of sleeping 1.5 hrs with me waking, baby wakes on own after 1hr-1hr 15 min. Then the second wake window is 3 hrs 20 min/3 hrs 30 min but the last 2 days has taken 20-30 min to fall asleep. And nap total had dropped to under 2h so I tried to make bedtime earlier but that did not help. Bedtime has also taken longer - used to be 10 min now is taking like 30 to fall asleep. Total sleep dropped from around 13 hr 40 min to 13 hr in these 2 weeks.

We are teething. I’m just not sure if baby is ready to jump to one nap or what I can try. I’m hesitant to expand ww because I don’t want it to still take 30 or so min to fall asleep and then unsure to cap nap or later bedtime- neither ideal.

A couple other notes: I try to follow the clock but keep ww in mind. First nap is always at 10 even if wake is 630- well wait as close to 7 to get baby. If it was a rough night I’ll wake at 7:30 and push the first nap a bit. first nap I let be 10-1130 but sometimes she wakes early. The second nap is always 2:30-2:45. So if she wakes at 11 we’ll make it til 2:30. But if she sleeps until 11:30 I’ll have it closer to 2:45. Also the other day when she did sleep until 11:30 am and I woke her up, she didn’t fall asleep for the nap until 10:25 so it was just over an hour. The second nap that day was 42 min and she fell asleep at 3 (in crib 2:40, used to take 5-8 min to fall asleep for nap…)

Is it better to just let her sleep and get 90 min in for the first nap if it starts late? Since I don’t know how long the second nap will be?

Bedtime has been 4 hrs usually. I tried to make it 20 min earlier the past 2 days since naps were short but that did not work out.

I am sort of looking for someone to tell me we are ready for 1 nap even though it is early…. But let me know your thoughts :)

When can I go onto 1 nap?

We’re at 10 months. I’d like to be on 1 nap but not sure if we can just do it.

Right now on 2- our wake windows are like 3/3.25-3.5/4-4.5

Wake is around 7am. First nap is at 10. I let baby go to 1.5 h but lately baby wakes up after an 1-1.25 h. Then the second nap I have around 2:45 pm. This nap also ranges from 35 min-1 hr. I’ll cap it at 1 hr.

Bed is at 745 and baby falls asleep then or around 8.

Just wondering if we could somehow swing 1 nap- baby does seem ok with long wake windows.

Also how would I decide when to make the nap and bed and wake time?

How do you manage leaving the house?

We are on 2 naps now at almost 10 months. Usually around the same times. But I still find it hard to leave the house between solids.

For example, wake from nap at 1130. Then 12 I’ll do a snack. Then 1 pm is lunch. Then 2:15 I’ll do formula. Then 2:30 get ready for next nap. I feel like between the solids it’s hard to get out

Looking for any advice

If last nap is 1 hr, can I still have a 4 hr ww?

Our first nap is capped at 1.5 hrs only because I never know how long the second nap will be (anywhere between 30min-1 hr). But if the first nap is longer than the second, can I still do a 4 hr wake window? All the schedules I see have a longer second nap. I’ve tried it a couple days but some days we get an EMW and other days it seems ok so I’m not really sure.

Almost 9 month old crying before 2nd nap

This is new- I have been trying to follow 3/3/4 wake windows and sometimes 3/3.15/4 but every time I put baby down for a second nap she really cries. I’m at a loss of what to do. Any info or advice appreciated!

I have been trying to follow a 3/3/4 schedule. Ever since we’ve consistently been on 2 naps- they have now gotten longer and I wake baby up from each nap. The first is an hour and a half and the second is an hour 15. Before then baby always took short naps and would sleep 2 hrs day total and 12-12.5 hrs at night. Now with the longer naps, night sleep has dropped to around 11 hrs, which I don’t necessarily mind but would like to go back to 12 (or at least a 7 am wake) if possible. Wake has been around 6:10 and I get her at 6:30.

First nap is 930-11 (usually. On days with a night wake and she wakes around 7 then it’ll be 10-1130)
Second nap is 2-315
Bed is around 7/710

She’s been waking in the middle of the night some nights for 30 min to an hour. What could be the reason for this? Is the 3 hr 45 min/4 hr last wake window too long? She just hangs there looking like she’s trying to fall back to sleep. Should I go in and assist if it gets to a certain point?

Also, should I cap the naps even shorter to try to get a longer night? Or would that just cause her to be overtired?

Thank you !
