How’s vail?

How is Vail for a 23 yo male that wants to ski bum for the season? Been working at a dude ranch all summer as a fly guide and wants something fun to do for winter time. Also looking at Sun Valley, Driggs (Grand Targhee) and open to other ideas.

Vacation late sept

Hi - I think it would be cool to see the Outer Banks. We have fall break the last week of Sept. is this a good time to visit? We are coming from Atlanta so it’s a haul to get there. We like small crowds and good food. Wife likes to sit on the beach and read. I do that and fish if possible and drink beer is another pastime. We normally go to Indian Rocks Beach in Florida so I am thinking this is going to be another world. Please give me some direction and recommendations if would be so generous. I saw another post mention kiteboarding. I used to snowboard and wakeboard and would like to try it.

FU Hondapartsnow

Ordered $80 part from HondaPartsNow. Got an email 4 days later saying there has been a price increase and I owe them $10 more if I want to get the part. I cancelled my order. What a terrible business model.

Pilots are great? Meh.

Everybody loves Honda. Here is my long term ownership report on my 2007 Honda Pilot Ex-L 2wd, 204,000 miles, garage kept and regular maintenance done. It’s a nice car but not the bullet proof machine everyone claims them to be. First, everyone knows what a pain VCM is on these things. I have replaced the spool valves, VCM solenoid and gaskets at least twice. Just recently replaced only the gasket. Also recently installed VCM tuner. I have replaced the starter, the alternator, the main seal (which costs a fortune due to labor of removing the tranny), replace the ceiling fabric because it delaminated, both transaxles, an o-ring in the power steering pump, the oil pan gasket, both head gaskets (which still leak a bit), the pistons that hold up the rear hatch and am about to replace the APP sensor as soon as it arrives. Did I also mention that you have to replace the timing belt every 100k miles? That ain’t free so I count it even though it is “regular” maintenance like a brake job. Drivers side speaker is dead, radio reception is mediocre at best, sub hasn’t worked in years. And to top it all off the paint has cracked under the clear coat. Only solution is repaint if you want to fix it. So while I do like this car it hasn’t been without its problems. My 4 runner with 164000 miles? No problems yet. Just saying.
Edit: And while I have your attention, I am thinking about redoing the front end with a kit from RockAuto. Do you think the Dorman is worth I the extra $120 over the Moog?

LCA sliding

5th Gen, SR5, 2019, 160k miles. Has anyone ever had an issue where your lower control arm (driver side in this case) is able to slide horizontally front to back? Only happens when wet and appears to be moving when you hit the brakes. For example you are making a slow turn and hit the brakes and clank the control arm hits where it connects. Like it’s sliding on the bolt and yet the bolt nut is tight. This is how it appeared to me watching from outside the car. I have to do further exam which is hard to recreate and exam since it’s under the moving car.

Counterfeit parts

If you are looking for a Honda part on eBay there’s a very good chance it is fake. I recently encountered this and after digging a little deeper it’s like every “OEM” Honda part on eBay is aftermarket Chinese. You can tell by looking at the packaging and the part itself, but honestly you would be better off with Dorman or NGK from Rockauto or Napa than buying no name fake OEM product. Stay vigilant out there diy peeps!

Late September

Hi. Is it worth visiting Glacier in late September? We wouldn’t be able to arrive until the last week, probably the 26th. I notice a lot of the inside the park hotels are closed.

VPN blocked

We have hybrid work schedule (14,000 users globally) Starting this past Tuesday almost all users at home in the US who have Xfinity, Spectrum and Videotron (Canada) as ISP have had their VPN connections blocked by these companies Advanced Security feature. This has affected both Cisco vPn and Fortigate. When the users turn off the Advanced Security it works fine. Anyone else experience this problem? Any idea on why?

Masters of Ed.

Hey Georgia teachers!!! Would like some opinions from anyone out there who may have gotten their Masters of Education thru either GSW or VSU. Both have a remote program designed for working teachers that can be completed in a short time (1.5 years) I can start VSU this fall or wait till spring for GSW (which is about 2 grand cheaper) but you know what they say about planting a tree…the next best time is right now. I have 20 years experience and will be focusing on special education.

No internet for 5 days

Does anyone know how to escalate service with ATT? My 88 yo mother’s internet is down and ATT can’t get a tech there for 5 days. No internet which means no land line phones (she has no cell phone) and no tv and we can’t access cameras to keep an eye on her. It’s a real problem and crazy they can do it.

No Cuban bread in Deli.

I really like the Publix Cuban sandwich but don’t want the premade one as I would rather have it fresh. Now that they are not made in house the deli doesn’t use Cuban bread for the sub. Not a dealbreaker but it sure would be nice to have it. Any deli secrets anyone can spill? I do see Cuban bread in the bakery? Do I have to buy it and take it to the deli?

I have two runners: 2014 4 runner sr5, 2019 2 runner sr5, both near 170k miles. When it rains and the underside of the car gets wet you hear and feel a clank when doing certain things in the car while driving. Coming to a quick stop, turning and going over a bump, changing directions from reverse to forward and turning, a 3 point turn for example, seems to be center to driver front side area under the car. Only clanks once and can’t be reproduced unless you move the car again, change directions or similar change. Once the car dries off, the symptoms disappear. Comes and goes on the 4wd or maybe the driver doesn’t notice. consistent on the 2wd. Shocks, struts are in good condition, can’t find any loose fittings, nuts, bolts, parts, doesn’t appear to impact driving experience. Has anyone else experienced this mystery clank noise?
