Mission 1 contacto door grip cage mod FAIL

If you’ve got the Mission 1, a contacto door, and the grip cage, you’ve no doubt discovered that they don’t fit together. The pull latch on the contacto door is larger than the standard door latch, and it makes the cage impossible to close. Not a big deal, you don’t need the cage door on that side UNLESS you (like me) want to take advantage of the portrait orientation magnetic quick mount.

I initially thought I could remove the extra material to get the parts to fit. BUT on closer inspection it became clear that the spring latch pin for the grip cage door lives in the exact spot that the contacto door needs to fit. Since the cage was a free accessory, I did some exploratory filing of the aluminum bits to see if by some miracle I could make it work. Sadly, the latch pin location is a deal breaker for getting the contacto door to fit.

Trail run with Mission 1 Pro

Still learning all the things the Mission 1 can do. It’s so much fun to experiment with. Handled the early morning low sun and dappled light like a champ. Bonus burst mode slow mo finale!

My first event!

Attended my first event today! The Camp + Crawl at Camp Serene Oregon. So great to see all the rigs, and so much fun to take my car through scale obstacles and dioramas. Amazed at what the competition crawlers can drive over!

Tagging items in video for YouTube shopping - anyone do it?

I recently went through a YouTube Shopping Bootcamp. Basically 5 weeks of weekly zoom type meetings that encouraged a group of creators to tag items in their videos for YouTube shopping.

I’ve used Amazon affiliates in the past, and YouTube offers a much higher commission. In addition, your commission is calculated from the buyers total bill - so if you send someone to Home Depot with a link to. 4$ screwdriver and they buy 150$ is stuff you get a percentage of the 150$. Sounds great - but my experience with the system has left me feeling like Amazon is a safer bet.

The first thing I pushed back on was the Auto Tagging feature, which YouTube REALLY pushed us to turn on. It lets an AI index your video and auto link to any products it sees. This was a hard no for me - I don’t trust their indexing tool, and I won’t risk my credibility with viewers by linking to something that I haven’t personally set up. Secondly, I kept having YouTube flag and remove my product tags because their AI tool found them in violation. Each time support would admit their error and reinstate the links - but only after the video had been up for several weeks.

Anyone here use the shopping links? Has it worked well for you?

Mission 1 on the trail

First run with the Mission 1 Pro. Haven’t had a GoPro since the Hero 3 - so this is quite the upgrade!

Question for the pros: video vs sport POV mode - I can’t make out any difference when shooting while running - the stabilization seems smooth in both modes. What is the main difference between the two modes?

Edit to add:
I have more footage from the camera cut together here - all straight from the camera at the default video or POV action setting

MetroY Pro + Apple M4? Is this possible?

Looking to buy a MetroY Pro to do detailed scans of small(ish) artwork but... I have a iMac with an Apple M4 chip and 16GB of ram. Can I run the scanner? I suspect the majority of my use would be low frame rate with the 2 axis turntable. I've seen Mac users on youtube loving the software - but I'm worried that while my computer meets the minimum requirements I definitely don't meet the recommended specs.

Thanks for any and all advice and info!

The classic Question: which one to buy

Ok folks, here’s my dilemma:

I’m a sculptor, looking to scan some of my work. I’d like to capture as much detail as possible on models that range in size from 3”x3” to 10” tall x8”x5”

The goal is to bring the scanned data into a 3D modeling application (Nomad) and clean up/modify them for printing.

I’m currently leaning towards either the Revopoint MINI 2 or the Revopoint INSPIRE 2. I’m totally new to this - and I’ve read that laser scan = more detail and accuracy, but the mini seems to capture more detail in the specs.

I’d like to stay under $1k in budget, so both of these fit the bill, BUT I’m worried that both models are several years old, and I can’t find much info about folks using them currently.

Any advice/suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you so much!

GoPro Player + Mission One question

This is a follow up to my earlier post regarding adding a mission one to my quiver as a second camera for shooting work in my studio and while traveling.

I recently tested out a GoPro Max 2, and it was my first time using the GoPro Player app. I was AMAZED. Loved being able to control the lens angle, and the ability to pan around within the footage and set key frames blew my mind! You can tell I haven’t explored the GoPro universe since selling my Hero3 ages ago.

The big question is: can I do similar things to footage shot on the Mission 1 in the GoPro player app? I realize the Mission one does not shoot in 360 degrees, but it is wide angle. If you capture full wide do you get to play with options in post via the app?

Thank you all so much - the Mission 1 low light footage that has leaked is incredible. Shooting with my old Hero3 (or even with the Max2 I tested) indoors in my studio was not so hot.

Question about the new Mission One Pro for the GoPro power users (I know it is not out yet - but I’m curious on your thoughts):

So, I’m an artist who tried using g a GoPro Hero in the past (maybe 7 years ago) to use for shooting b-roll of studio work for YouTube and social media. I was mainly interested in the time lapse feature to capture sculpting. Unfortunately while the camera was great for my outdoor adventures, it really struggled with low light in the studio, and the battery was awful.

It seems the new Mission One has great low light sensitivity and good battery life. I’d be leaning to the fixed lens model - BUT… can it shoot close up timelapse? Do you think that GoPro will over a closeup clip on lens in the future? Is this the right time for me to jump back into the GoPro universe? Thanks for any and all insights!
