Rewriting Disney's Marvel Universe

Rewriting Disney's Marvel Universe

I think I can confidently say that Disney's Marvel Universe isn't as impactful as previous shows that came before it. Other than the role it seemingly played in cancelling Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes and Spectacular Spider-Man, there is also the fact that the writing and characterization are lackluster, and ultimately, the series is just a cash-grab to take advantage of the hype the Marvel Cinematic Universe has happening.

While I understand the need to make profit, I do feel that the entire cartoon universe could have been a lot better if it was a lot more fun and enjoyable, as well having the same quality to that of the previous Marvel Animated Universe and DCAU.

The cartoons I'm going to talk about is Spider-Man, Avengers, and Hulk.

My proposed pitch is that all three cartoons are taking place after a calamity that had occurred: caused by the lord of the Negative Zone, Annihilus. Many Superheroes have been killed, leaving a void that has to be filled by new heroes.

Ultimate Spider-Man

  • In my rewrite, the cartoon follows a young adult, Spider-Man being tasked by Nick Fury to mentor and train a new generation of heroes. However, old and new villains arrive to complicate matters.
  • My main inspirations are Power Rangers and Young Avengers; in fact, the new heroes are the Younger Avengers. As for the Power Rangers, Spider-Man would take a lot of basis of older and wiser Rangers, like Tommy Oliver who would become a mentor in Power Rangers: Dino Thunder.
  • The main villains of Season 1 and 2 would have been Alchemax. There would be a revolving door of leadership and membership as they constantly backstabbed one another, in contrasts to Spider-Man's Team's natural bond building.
  • Season 1 would have been about Spider-Man adjusting to his new role as mentor while the Team has to grow from a band of misfits to a well and efficient superhero group. They would be battling Spidey's rogues, who like Spider-Man, have grown wiser and dangerous. It would end with the Team battling the Sinister Six.
  • Season 2 would be about character drama as tensions arise when Cletus Casady and his cult wrecks havoc on the city, with the use of the Symbiotes. The main dilemma for the Team is dealing with their personal demons, as the Symbiotes who bond to them release their regrets and failures.
  • Season 3 would be a globe-trotting adventure as the Team have to deal new problems in other well-known locations, like Wakanda, Krakoa, Japan etc.
  • Season 4 would escalate where Spider-Man and the Team have to contend with Doctor Doom who incites a new incident involving the Multiverse.

Hulk: Gamma Corps

  • The title of the series is based on the initial concept for Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes.
  • Season 1 follows Hulk being exiled from Earth and reaching to Sakaar. The premise takes a lot from the original comic, but also elements of Dune.
  • Season 2 has Hulk and his allies, the Warbound founding an organization from the Nova Corps, as they deal with myriad of problems, like the Kree, Skrulls, Ego, Brood etc.
  • While both seasons deal with different genres, the series would ultimately be about the character drama of Hulk and reconciling the conflicting emotions with himself: his hatred against Earth for exiling him, his hatred against the Universe for screwing him over, and his hatred towards himself.

Avengers Assemble

  • The series would be both high-octane action and political thriller as the newly reformed Avengers have to deal the fallout from the Annihilation Wave.

Which of these endings would you prefer in Apocrypha?

  1. Shadow appears and stops Diablos, saving everyone and preventing the other Heroes deaths. This sets up a sequel.
  2. Shadow appears and brings the future characters back to the present, making Freya to sacrifice her friends to stop Diablos.
  3. Ending 1 happens but when Shadow and the future characters return to their time, they see nothing has changed. Turns out, having Heroes who only know how to backstab one another and are only womanchildren still make them easy prey to the Organization.

A/N: Having Shadow rizz the Heroes is already on the table. So, don't bother writing that in your post.

Which Marvel Villains would be best suited against Superman?

Galactus - Not only responsible for destroying Krypton, but also turning a Krypton into his herald. Twist? Jor-El or Lara-El.

Kree - Responsible for creating the Kryptonians and their abilities?

Skrulls - Foils to Superman and Supergirl, being refugees after losing their planets to Galactus

Doctor Doom - Marvel's Lex Luthor

Hydra - Regards Superman as Übermensch and attempts to corrupt him or brainwash him.

Moleman - One of Superman's first villains. Theme? The man who came from the Heavens against the man who came from the underworld.

Absorbing Man - Absorbing Kryptonite to even the odds.

Annihilus - Argo City was transported to the Negative Zone, earning Annihilus's wrath. While a Superman Villain, Annihilus is Supergirl's personal nemesis.

Thunderbolt Ross - Acts no different from General Eiling or any other military authority who thinks Superman is a menace.

Abomination - Simply wants to kill Superman to prove he is dominant. Later develops the ability to create energy similar to the Red Sun.

Juggernaut - Unstoppable Force vs the Immovable Wall

Wrecking Crew - Simply Hoodlums Superman has to contend with time and again.

MODOK - Mutates and loses his mind after tampering with Kryptonian technology.

Count Nefaria - He ties to the Maggia makes him the closest thing to Intergang.

Bastion - The Living Sentinel who is a direct counterpart to Superman. While Superman was raised with love and positivity, Bastion was raised with hate and negativity.

What I predict might happen in Volume 8

The Fates of Lalanoa and Sakura

Those two would meet similar ends to what happened to Christina and Eliza though there will be differences

  • Whether or not she becomes Queen, Lalanoa would still hate her Country but would still carry on the values her parents instilled into her, in contrasts to Christina forsaking the Hope family values after they selfishly discarded her. If Lalanoa does become Queen, she would still be tyrannical, but in a strict parent sense to keep the rowdy masses inline while Christina exhibits her serial killer personality in secret.
  • Sakura would undoubtedly messed things up and be discarded by Shadow Garden and the Tokiseryuno. However, unlike the delusional Eliza, Sakura would finally acknowledged her culpability and would put in the effort to make things right, starting with repairing her friendship with Lalanoa.

An entire Country traumatized

Whether it is Cid, one of the successors, or the Cult, the entire Country would undergo mass possession, mutating everyone into monsters.

Even if they are cured, they would be so traumatized that they are frozen in place or turned their backs against one another, leading to mass anarchy.

Nazono would disappear leading to different reactions

Cid would most likely leave Nazono alive, maybe to appease Lalanoa, found a better story plot, or both.

Lalanoa would be content, knowing her mentor is out there doing good.

Epsilon would be hating that Nazono is still alive, and would bond with Beta who wants to return to Earth to kill FallenAngelOfRebellion.

Alpha and Beatrix would reunite

Alpha would meet her aunt again and while she does still care for Beatrix, Alpha would make it clear that her only real family is Shadow Garden.

Beatrix would reveal that she knew all along Alpha was saved by Cid and approved of a possible marriage with him.

Am I wrong that I want a Wonder Woman Spin-Off rather than another Batman show?

Let's be honest, although comic fandom hypes about the Trinity, I never see another series with Wonder Woman as the main character since the 70s.

With Superman and Batman hogging the spotlight, I think it's time for WW to take center stage, especially with Wonder Woman taking more animesque traits like Superman has done here.

How many of you expect Sakura to end up disappointing Alpha?

Granted, there are some cases where girls do end up having their happy ending like with Elisabeth and Yukime, however, Sakura cannot fall into that category because of her character.

Unlike the former two, Sakura has little to do with a tragic background, but more towards her being tied to prejudice and corruption.

While Sakura does have "some" good qualities, I won't be surprised if Sakura would discard them, or fail to uphold them, leading her to destroy most bridges with everyone, including Alpha.

Possible Scenario: Sakura does tell the Tokiseryuno about Kikyou's survival, resulting in a strike force to sent out to "detain" Alpha, with Sakura believing it is for her relative's own good. However, Alpha and Shadow Garden wiped them out in a gory manner, with Sakura being one of the few still standing. Alpha expresses disgusts and reveals that she wanted Shadow to come to the country; not for his power, but to act as a guide. With Shadow not around, this leads Alpha to believe that he approves Plan B: Wiping the entire Elven Country from existence. Alpha tells Sakura she will spare her just so that she can witness the country she dearly loves be reduced to rubble, before executing her as last.

I won't be surprised if Lalanoa would become either the Queen or prestigious Knight while Sakura is reduced to a beggar or servant.

Does Alpha hate Beatrix? (SPOILERS For Volume 7)

In Volume 7, when Sakura makes mentions of Beatrix finding her, Alpha becomes silent.

Does Alpha still cares for Beatrix or she hates her or both?

Was taking out Shadow part of the Mastermind's Plan?

Did Freya think Shadow was the weakest link or was she terrified in going up against Shadow hence why she had him be absorbed by Diablos?

u/whiplash10 — 11 days ago

A dark implication behind the Mastermind's actions

Now, I highly doubt this happened, but when Freya had the Irreversible Pocket Watch, she might have initially tried to use it to avoid losing her friends during the fight against Diablos. However, every outcome is different but nonetheless horrific.

Maybe one of them got killed by Diablos, got killed by the vampire horde, or tried to leave the organization and got executed.

Maybe Freya has went through about a million times and got so desensitized over her friends dying, resulting in her becoming heartless.

What would happen if Cid was reincarnated as a villainous woman?

Using Life with an Ordinary Guy Who Reincarnated into a Total Fantasy Knockout and From Bureaucrat to Villainess: Dad's Been Reincarnated! as a basis, how do you think the story would play out if Cid was a born to an evil family, and somehow becomes a villainess of some sorts. "Some sorts" being that the public misunderstands her as a villain.

Apocrypha highlights the difference between the Mastermind and Alpha.

Using Re:Zero as a reference, you should know that the main character, Subaru Natsuki has this ability to return back in time however, he can't wield it and there have been many times he is unsure how far he could go back to the exact time that he wanted.

This applies to Alpha's situation here. Like Subaru, she has no idea how far she can go back and there is a chance she can't return to save one of her loved ones, like what happened with Delta.

Why I have to bring this up is because I want to highlight Alpha's empathy here. She treats life as precious and she refused to let use them as cannon fodder to her own needs. Granted, there have been a few times she intentionally harmed someone, but she was pushed to the brink to resort to that.

This in contrasts to Freya who is the one in control, as she has the Irreversible Pocket Watch. Comparing Alpha and Freya is like comparing night and day. Unlike Alpha, Freya intentionally causes harms to others, even to her closest allies.

Not only she has Rouge and several others to turn against the future characters, but it is heavily implied that she had Tessera silenced because she refused to turn on them.

It really doesn't take a genius to see how close in mindset she is to every last member of the organization/Cult of Diablos. She doesn't treat life as precious, she treats it as tools, much like how the organization used her and her allies. And I bet she doesn't feel a shred of remorse when her own allies has harmed millions of people for inane reasons.

Think about this from a perspective where you are one of Freya's allies. Whether you are her accomplices or not, can you really trust someone like Freya? Can you trust her after knowing that she views you as tools, or had your closest friends go behind your backs.

You know what's so tragic about what happened to Alpha in the Apocryoha?

Ever since Alpha learnt that she is related to the Three Heroes, I think she felt a level of pride, hence why she revered the Three Heroes in contrasts to how Zeta views them.

That said, I think Alpha feels that she has expectations she needed to uphold and be someone worthwhile not only to them, but also to Shadow. Afterall, the Three Heroes were the ones to have sealed away Diabolos and she might have wanted to be strong as them to be a worthwhile partner to her leader.

Unfortunately, the latest chapter to the Apocrypha has basically destroyed that; not only was Freya the Mastermind, but she destroyed the Pocket Watch to ensure Alpha can't ruin any more of her plans.

Even before that, Alpha gambit on killing Lili to ensure Freya would turn back time, meaning by that point, Alpha has lost so much of her respect for the Three Heroes.

The harshest in this story is that the Three Heroes were heroes from that time and that time alone. However, they can never be heroes today.

How the Apocrypha could tie in to an event in the Web Novel

While the Apocrypha is loose canon, it does give a window as to who the Three Heroes truly are, particularly Freya.

She is cold, ruthless, deceptive and more importantly, selfish. We already have seven chapters of her gaslighting the Hell out of the Seven Shadows, 559, Alexia, Rose, Claire, and Yukime. She is also implied to be not above tossing away her own allies, possibly either having no choice or under the logic that she can bring them back and makes sure it doesn't happen again.

Unfortunately, that is the problem here. In the short term, Freya has been successful but it won't work in the long term.

Assuming that she did sacrificed the other Heroes, leaving herself, Lili, and Olivier.

I'm going to assume that when Freya founded Midgar, she carried that ruthlessness with her, either being unaware of it or probably thought she could used that against the organization. Like I said before, that cannot worked in the long term.

I can only assume that many of Freya's supporters would be disgruntled or resentful towards her. Even those that have tried to be closed to her only to get pushed away because Freya is too anti-social or paranoid to getting close to them.

And that's when the big problem comes, Freya unknowingly made her kingdom the perfect ground to set up the Cult of Diablos' foundation there and their plants might have turned others to their side, around the time when Freya was at her most volatile.

Eventually, Freya's inner circle or even her own family she bore would betray her. How she got betrayed doesn't matter, but what matters is that she was fully aware of the betrayal. If it was her own family who did her in, I can definitely say that she would be devastated. After that, she got sealed away by the Cult.

In the Web Novel, Cid would uncover the Spirit of Freya who has gone completely feral. Now, how can this be retconned back is due to above points I have made; Freya's sanity has been completely destroyed, not only due to failing to save her remaining childhood friends, but also that her own family and close allies have betrayed her.

As Cid would put it, Freya has become a "Wild Animal".

If there is a revival for the DCAU, they should do one more season of Superman: The Animated Series and Wonder Woman

For Superman, it's mainly because it could help bridge the gap between Legacy and the main Justice League show, where Clark tries to rebuild his reputation, Cadmus forming being the scenes, and fleshing out other members of the JLU.

For Wonder Woman, being a member of the DC Trinity, she should have a series dedicated to her. Maybe, following JLU's final episode, Destroyer.

I think we all know who the true Mastermind really was and she has been right under our noses all this time. It is her...

Nu. She killed Shadow and transported him to another world where he would become a high school student who would be romanced by a beautiful rich girl, who is the reincarnation of Nu after she killed herself to follow him.

Plot Twist: She then gets NTR'ed by Kaguya-sama who has seduced Shadow, much to Nu's horror. Just look at that evil face (Last Image)

u/whiplash10 — 21 days ago

My guess is what the Apocrypha is all about

The Three Heroes were always the darker parallels to the Seven Shadows.

For all of Cid's faults, he was a genuine positive influence on the Seven Shadows which allowed them to grow. In contrasts, the Cult were abusive and toxic influence on the Three Heroes which left them cold and emotionally stunted.

However, another layer to this story is the Seven Shadows' feelings towards the Three Heroes. While most of the Shadows have grown, you can't deny that there is a level of insecurity they bear beneath it all, especially when they now finally get a chance to talk to them.

One scene that stands out is how both Alpha and Zeta react towards the Three Heroes. Alpha is completely optimistic towards them and feels they can be worthy allies whereas Zeta distrusts them and feels disappointed how they behaved.

I think the point of it all is that they are both wrong. There is a clear case of nostalgia filter within their eyes, and they expect that the Three Heroes could be how they are described within the history books, but the thing is, everything was not real and they are essentially objectifying the Three Heroes.

While I find Freya's actions to be detestable and unforgivable, I do understand where she might be coming from. Out of everybody, Freya has been under the influence of the organization who has experimented on and abused her, so trust is a very difficult thing to handle.

Not to mention, depending on how much she knows about the future, Freya does understand that many of the future characters have looked up to them as heroes. Unfortunately, this is implied to be what enrages her the most: They don't looked up to her, they only looked up to the image without taking into context the sheer anguish and torture that she and her friends have been subjected to.

Take for example, Zeta wanted Lili to act in a way that is described in what she was told, even after knowing that Lili was nothing more than the Cult of Diablos's pawn. Understandably, it is easy for Freya to see every last future character as a number in her plot to take down Diablos.

The true lesson of the apocrypha is that the Seven Shadows should just leave the legacy of the Three Heroes in the history books. That was long ago and this is today. If they let legacy and expectations to measure their worth, then the past would trample onto them, much like Freya has.

Do you think this kind of ending would be too cruel or too whacky? (Spoilers for Apocrypha)

This is an assumption: Just as Freya's plans is about to succeed, Shadow comes in and saves the day; not only rescuing Alpha and the other future characters, but also sealing Diablos without sacrificing anybody. Also, he beats the ever loving crap out of the Ten Heroes.

Following that, rather than further punishing Freya and her collaborators, Shadow and the others leave and return back to their timeline/s. This leaves all ten Heroes to live and Freya's goal to save her comrades has succeeded.

Now, either Shadow doesn't know how time travel works or he knows something that will no doubt screw over Freya.

With that, Freya and the other Heroes set up their own foundations in order to protect themselves from the Cult. They still maintain contact should there any attempt by their former masters.

Overtime, contacts are slowly been lost as Freya cannot reach out to several of her close friends. Either, they have gone missing or have been killed.

This leads Freya to grow paranoid and makes harsh decisions at the Midgar Kingdom, not knowing that the Cult has already infiltrated and Freya's actions have only spurned many people to take their side.

Freya finally falls at their hands, but not before learning harsh revelations; the Cult presents the decapitated heads of some of the Heroes, and/or a few of her friends have taken to the Cult's side. The last part especially hits Freya hard as these are the same collaborators who helped her in breaking the Seven Shadows' spirits.

On present day, Cid would encounter Freya's spirit who looks far more disheveled and broken than when he last saw her. Seeing Shadow again drives Freya into insanity, realizing everything she had done was all for nothing.

What would be worse fate for the Mastermind?

With Freya being exposed as the mastermind and intended to sacrifice the future characters to seal Diabolos, safe to say that the final chapter would have Shadow returning. However, what would be the outcome:

  1. Shadow giving Freya and the other Heroes an ass-whooping before leaving with the future characters back to present day, forcing Freya to sacrifice her allies.
  2. Shadow does seal Aurora by himself... without any help from the Heroes before leaving with everyone, and the Heroes' numbers remain intact. Except, time hasn't changed as the Heroes still got defeated by the Cult, rendering Freya's actions and goals for nothing. Even worse, Freya's precious comrades willing betrayed her. Heck, maybe her own children.
reddit.com
u/whiplash10 — 23 days ago

Even if the Mastermind's plan worked, I highly doubt they would get their happy ending

Even if Freya's plan to use the Seven Shadows to power up the weapon to seal Diabolos worked, I sincerely doubt ten women would be enough to tip the scale against the organization.

After what has been seen, their camaraderie is absolutely shaky at best, so it is only a matter of time before members of the organization could turn one or most of them against Freya and the other heroes.

Not to mention, Freya maybe a ruthless tactician, but never one worthy of true leadership. I won't be surprised she unknowingly turned some of her comrades against her eventually.

I'm tempted to see if Shadow appears and manages to resolve the problem and everyone returned to the future. Except everything is still the same and it would be revealed the Cult did held onto the Three Heroes narrative because it is very convenient for them.

Then possibly Freya on her deathbed realized everything she had done was for nothing and hope Shadow would be born to fix everything.

reddit.com
u/whiplash10 — 23 days ago

The Apocrypha has to be not canon, otherwise I highly doubt the Future Characters would be the same again

Other than the fact that the Three Heroes are not the glorious idols they thought they were, one of them was willing to sacrifice them to save their own hides.

Granted, people would say the Shadow Garden members aren't better either but said members were victims of centuries-long torment and trauma, I'd say that they have more justifications.

Whether or not Zeta and 559 were still committing their plan to make Shadow their god, this betrayal only reinforced their beliefs that the Three Heroes are undeserving of praise and worship.

I also think Alexia would be distraught on the blood her family has spilled for the sake of their prosperity. And would be reinforced when not only Iris turned her blade onto her, but her own father was willing to sacrifice her and her sister to keep the kingdom safe.

That said, the Three Heroes never deserved the accolades and adoration, they have to be understood. These were not bio-engineered weapons, these are traumatized children whose lives changed because of a group of selfish men and women who damned the entire world because of their hubris.
