Parking Permit Waitlist

Anybody ever have luck with getting off the parking permit waitlist? The parking garage closest to my classes is full and so I got on the waitlist today around 2pm (four hours after it opened). Anyone have any idea what my chances of getting off the waitlist are?

Ball Memorial Hospital Jobs?

Hi! Anyone here work for Ball Memorial Hospital?
I am a pre-med major at BSU and need more clinical experience and so I have been applying over and over for a job as a PCT for the past few months and haven’t had any luck so far. I have done an internship with Ball in the past where I followed around PCTs for a few weeks with no pay and have my BLS AHA certification. I have tried to call hr and unfortunately you are just told to check the status of your application on the career portal by the automated voice system. Anyone who might work for BMH have any recommendations on what my next steps should be?

advice for hair that won’t curl?

hi!

I have decently healthy, medium length, straight hair, no hair coloring, frequent trims, and i typically wash my hair every few days. ever since i was young ive never been able to get my hair to hold curl. the absolute only product i have found to work when curling my hair is bed head masterpiece extra strong hold hairspray. my issue with this hairspray is it’s super intense and makes my hair pretty crunch. i usually have to use a bunch of it to get it to even work but i have tried many hairsprays and it’s the only one that works. before i put any heat on my hair i use redken thermal spray high hold heat protectant. for shampoo and conditioner i use amika 3d volume and thickening shampoo and conditioner and occasionally use amika leave in conditioner in the winter. i have tried curling my hair fresh and i have tried curling my hair dirty but no matter what after a few hours all the curls are gone even super tight curls. i have also tried heatless curls and have found i have the worst luck with heartless curls staying. my goal is to have simple loose curls that can stay all day that aren’t super crunch. does anyone have any advice on any products i should try?

7Brew Workers Right and Unionization

Hi there!
I am currently an employee of a 7Brew stand. I am relatively young, a Freshmen in college. For those unfamiliar with 7Brew, it is a decently large drive thru coffee chain, similar to scooters or dutch bros. The part that makes 7Brew a bit different is that half our staff works outside throughout the day taking orders and handing out drinks. I am coming here to connect with some like minded people on some of the issues I have dealt with 7Brew. I have worked for the company for approximately 2 years. We often go months without a stand manager (for those not familiar with 7Brew, this is essentially the GM). I live in one of the 18 states with a minimum wage of $7.25. 7Brew usually only pays their employees slightly over the bare minimum wage of the state the stand is located in. The issue with this is our minimum wage for my state hasn’t changed since the 2000s and the price of living since then has increased approximately 60%. Since I have started I have not had a single raise. I barely make enough money to simply survive and have had to pull money out of my saving to buy groceries even while working full time. We do receive tips (split evenly amongst everyone working for that whole day) but if we are slow or people aren’t tipping we make barely any money. On top of this the working conditions are pretty rough. We are often rotated through different positions in the stand throughout the day. The positions we rotate through are milk or shots (these are both positions working on the espresso machine making drinks so these are the two indoor positions) or you’re on lane or texting (these are both outdoor positions taking orders and/or handing out drinks). In the winter only when it is below 30°F those working outside are able to come in after taking the customers order and wait for the drink inside to be done and then come back out with the drink , hand it to the customer, and then take another order. Besides this, you’re required to stay outside at with the customers and talking to them. You are scheduled at a bare minimum of 1 hour outside but it is not uncommon to be stuck outside for 2-4 hours at a time depending on who is working that day as 7Brew has a rule stating anyone in management (stand managers and shit leads) are required to stay inside at all times so they can be easily able to find and ask questions. This sometimes causes those who aren’t in management to be stuck outside for hours at a time. This is really rough in the summer as of right now my state has been at a consistent temperature of 90°F or higher causing employees to sometimes pass out from standing outside for too long. We are also required to go outside and take orders even when there is lightning, rain, snow, literally anything just about. On top of this corporate refuses to let management schedule anyone for cleaning the stand throughout the day. The reason this is important is because 7Brew is a fast pace coffee shop expecting us to making big orders in just a couple mins, when putting ice in a hope it is super common to accidentally drop some of the ground because you’re rushing. This causes the floors to become super slippery and wet making many employees fall throughout the day, I fall at least once a day even with nonslip shoes which is not even a requirement in dress code. The only time you can squeegee the floor is in between orders if you’re lucky but usually you aren’t able to and can’t stop to squeegee. Another big issue with us moving so fast those working lane 2 or milk for machine 2 have to cross in front of the first lane to hand drink to customers in lane 2. In a hurry it is common to just glance over at the car in lane 1 to make sure they aren’t actively moving and run across lane 1. Often customers aren’t paying attention because they’re putting their straw in their cup or putting their drink say we are often hit by cars even if we walk out in front of the vehicle before they start moving. These are just some of the issues but I will spare the rest and get to the point. 7Brew does not have a workers union, this is likely due to it mostly being ran by high schoolers and young adults. I am interested in trying to start a workers union but I have absolutely no clue where to start. It is also kind of worrying that this company has been open for quite some time and has yet to form a union even though just about every stand struggles with the exact same issues my stand struggles with. This makes me worried because why exactly has it not been done? Is it because most employees are young and don’t know better or is it because if you bring it up you’re immediately fired? If anyone can share any tips or how and where to start to maybe try and get into the works of this that would be greatly appreciated!

advertised pay vs actual pay

does anyone else’s stand pay significantly less than the pay 7brew advertises on their website? the website states we all start at a base pay of $11 an hour. my stand starts at a base pay of $8 an hour. is this legal? i have attached “proof” but i marked out most information so hopefully 7brew cant hunt me down and fire me for posting this. i have left the important parts uncovered i just want to know if this is weird or anything that should maybe be reported. people constantly claim 7brew employees are making soo much more than we actually make because when they google how much we make it shows we’re making $11 an hour which is just so far from the truth. this greatly impacts tips because many customers believe we actually make a decent amount but i genuinely barely make enough to survive and rely on my savings more than i would like to admit.

College Student Figuring Things Out

Hi! I am starting my sophomore year of college in the fall and was wondering if anyone in this subreddit might be able to give me some advice. I am 19 years old and have parents who aren’t the most financially responsible. They have never been good with saving or budgeting so they aren’t much of a help. My family falls just above the financial aid cut off. The reason my parents are unable to help me pay for college is I have a sick little sisters who spend most most of the year in hospitals which is a huge financial burden on my family making it impossible for them to help even though they really want to. My parents never graduated high school or attended college. They both work jobs in the food industry and are just barely getting by but fasfa and colleges seem to not care one bit. I am transferring to a cheaper university this fall to help my student loan debt a bit. I am currently in debt to sallie mae $30,000 before interest and it says at the rate i’m going I will likely be $80,000 in debt for just my Freshman year of college by the time I finish paying it off. I am currently making the minimum payment, $20 a month. I know this is very little but I also have to pay $600 in rent (not counting electric and water) and also groceries, my car and such. I work two part time jobs, one pays $8 and the other pays $11. I am currently in the works of trying to get a job at a near by hospital and the position pays much more and will allow me to get my clinical hours and get paid but I have submitted 10 applications over the past few months and keep getting denied. I don’t know what to do. I’m trying to go to med school which is why i’m at a 4 year university instead of community college because they say you can’t get into med school with community college credits. The university I am transferring to is the cheapest around me which is $11,000 a year which is MUCH better than my previous university which was $30,000 a year but still sooo much. Does anyone have any advice? I feel very stuck and not sure what to do anymore but just keep falling more and more into debt.

Ticket pricing discourse and my opinion on it

There has been an abundance of upset Phoebe Bridgers fans in this subreddit today due to ticket pricing, and I understand why it is kinda upsetting, but let me explain why I am not directly upset with Phoebe Bridgers and her team. The tickets are kinda pricey, I will admit, but venues have a base minimum price they have to charge. I am going to use Gainbridge in Indianapolis as an example, as it is the opening show.
Gainbridge nosebleed tickets are typically ranging from $50–$150 and GA around $120–$500. Let’s use Forrest Frank (I have no clue who this is but apparently he has 8.2 million listeners on Spotify, so clearly not a small artist) as a comparison. For nosebleeds at Forrest Frank’s show at Gainbridge on June 20th, they are at a minimum $87.47 per ticket. For main level, each ticket is $436.73. For the exact same nosebleed section for Phoebe Bridgers (11.8 million Spotify listeners for comparison purposes), they are $75 each ticket. For main level tickets for Phoebe Bridgers, they are $187 each. As we can see from this comparison, even though Phoebe Bridgers is a bigger artist, she is STILL charging her tickets for cheaper.
Now, many people are also upset about her not opting out of platinum tickets. Personally, I don’t see a big issue with this. Phoebe Bridgers did a completely random selection on whether or not you were selected for presale day 1 or presale day 2. Hypothetically speaking, if she didn’t do platinum tickets, everyone who was randomly selected for day 1 (again, emphasis on randomly, because day 1 people could have been selected for day 2; there was no set reason anyone was chosen for any day) would have likely bought up a lot of the better seats immediately. This could have left day 2 presale with very limited options, or mostly nosebleeds. I feel like the platinum system just helps distribute demand a bit more evenly.
Phoebe Bridgers’ pop-ups were already only $50. These pop-ups were also hard for a lot of people who work long hours to attend, since they were often at times when people were at work. I feel like this tour might make it a bit more realistic for some of those people who couldn’t make the pop-ups due to scheduling to still have a chance to see her.
And just to add, she has already done very low-cost shows in the past, including the $1 ticket pop-up show where all proceeds went to the Community Justice Exchange Immigration Bond Fund, and for this tour, $1 from every ticket is being donated to RAINN. So it does seem like there is still some effort toward accessibility and giving back.
Overall, I understand why the pricing can feel upsetting, but I think a lot of that frustration is coming from how modern ticketing systems work in general, and not necessarily something unique or intentional on her end.

Tipping Controversy

I have began to notice an uptake in people posting on socials media trashing on 7brew employees asking for tips. First of all we have no choice we HAVE to ask you to select one of the buttons, feel free to press no tip no one is forcing you to tip just because we have to ask the question. Second of all there are always people claiming 7brew employees make a certain amount of money. When you google “how much does a 7brew employee make?” you will likely get an AI overview saying brewistas make approximately $16 an hour. Please remember this is AI. It’s a robot and makes so many mistakes all the time. In reality it genuinely depends on the stand and franchise. My stand makes $8 an hour and shift leads make $10. this is only $0.75 about my states minimum wage. Unfortunately this is actually pretty common pay for most stands. On top of the employees only making $8 an hours the working conditions for most stands are pretty unsafe. For example if there is a storm my stands manager requires us to still stay outside and take orders. We are required the stay outside at the register talking to customers if it is not below freezing. 100+° is okay though. I have watched many of my coworkers pass out on lane after being forced to stand out there for hours and not come back inside without getting yelled at. And let’s no forgot the amount of cars I have been hit by because a customer will start driving while putting their drink in their cup holder or put their straw in their drink. We are on a time limit on how long we can take to make a drink and bring it out causing many of us to run out there and not realize a customers car is starting to move. Even inside the stands the employees are standing on floors always covered in water from ice melting and leaking machinery making the floors very slick even with no resistance I have fallen many times. Employees are also required to climb ladders to get into the attic as that is where most of the storage is right after walking on the wet floors just to get to the ladder causing many people to slip off the ladders and fall. I’ve never clocked out without a new bruise. Please take these little things into consideration before posting complaining about us asking for tips. We are payed much less than your locals mcdonald’s or starbucks worker and work in a much more hazardous environment.

Important!!: Please dont reply to this telling me to go and get a new job. I love my job and my coworkers It just very unfortunate how little we are paid and how poorly we are treated (also kinda inconsiderate to just assume getting a new job is just so easy in this job market). At the end of the day if all of the 7brew employees quit who would be making your drinks? I would also like to add this is not a post saying you have to tip your 7brew employees. I am only hoping this post can help inform those who are so offended by the question on the tablets and maybe help you understand why tipping 7brew employees isn’t the same as tipping a mcdonald’s employee as many feel the need to compare the two.

dog passing unexpectedly

today my dog passed super unexpectedly. my dog just recently turned 10 and was overall fairly healthy. when he was three he got a bad case of heartworm leading to chronic unexplained seizures but besides that a happy and healthy dog. he has had many seizures in the past usually only lasting a couple mins and causing him to be very tired for the rest of the day but nothing more severe than that. he is a super happy dog always smiling and playing around, not something you would think to see in an unhealthy dog. today was a regular day for him. he didn’t show any signs of tiredness or pain. he accidentally got out (like he has done many times before). after chasing him for a few mins we caught him and he was smiling like usually and hyper. we brought him inside and his usual punishment for running away is spending a couple hours in his cage. he usually understands the second he gets back from running away that’s where he is going and will usually run straight to his cage the second he gets home. this time he didn’t. my dad tried getting him in his cage but he was refusing and pulling pack. after a bit of tugging he finally gets into the cage and immediately starts seizing. he seizes for significantly shorter than usual like maybe less than 30 seconds and immediately stiffens up and collapses. my dad checked his pulse and he had a pulse but he stopped breathing and his tongue was purple. we weren’t rlly sure what to do in this situation so my dad tried to give him a couple breaths and tried chess compressions once he realized his pulse stopped but nothing worked and he passed away. this whole thing was just really shocking and unexpected. one second he is smiling and running around and the next stiff as a bored dead on the ground. i can’t seem to wrap my head around this i am still in so much disbelief. i am just hoping he will just unexpectedly wake up before we make it to the crematory in the morning. part of me wants to just go out to the garage and check to make sure he hasn’t come back. this is so unbelievable.
