Mental and physical health break tapi gap year

Halo,

I should've been more honest..

I live in a country with muslim as the major religion. I was sent to a secular preschool when I was 2, when I turned 3 my parents moved me to an islamic kindergarten, then 5-year-old me was sent to an islamic elementary school.

By the time I was about to graduate middle school, I was given an option to continue in Islamic schools or general school and whether i wanted to keep my hijab or not. I chose general school but kept my hijab. I don't know, I think it's because I didn't want to rock the boat.. my parents had a troubled marriage, our finances were not good, as an eldest I should just behave, right?

But the real thing behind my hijab was, I already distanced myself from the faith. All my friends in middle school know I never make a trip to the prayer room during breaks, I only fast on ramadan. Then it continues to high school, university, and work.

My faith relapses every now and then. It hits an all-time-high in 2025 to the point I woke up every night for tahajjud, studied the hadith to make booklets for the recitation before, during, and after salah. Then life got busy and I moved to South Korea for work.

I felt happy there, I could live on my own term. I woke up whenever I want, nobody cared whether I prayed or not, I still wear my hijab though. Unfortunately, my contract wasn't continued and I had to go home. Funnily enough I didn't feel like I was being punished by Allah? I just felt the calmest I've ever felt, like "okay I'll go home or whatever"

Now I'm home where I have to live with my mom again. I almost turn 30 btw and she just can't stop nagging me to wake up in the morning to pray fajr, or asr when I am taking a nap. We finally had a talk yesterday, I told her I just don't feel like praying, I am not motivated. She replied with "if we're being tested by Allah, we have to be closer to Him not to pull away" which I replied back "Do you know that I don't feel like I am being tested mom? I am the calmest I've ever been. I have lots of time in my hand to do my hobbies, to read novels, to swim, to do all the things in the world I couldn't do when I'm swamped with work"

I don't know.. I just can't get my motivation up to the moment when I made the booklet and I don't think I'm willing to. I've been thinking about living honestly.. but my mom and sister will dislike me if I do. You know how punishing muslim families are

28 [F4M] South Korea/Online/Anywhere, be the reason I smile everyday?

Typing this as I reminiscence a scene from a week ago when I boarded the train and a saw a boyfriend gave an overhead arm heart to his girl as we depart. That train took me to attend a Disney Orchestra where I teared up on 'Beauty and The Beast' and 'I See The Light'. Something in me yearn for the gentleness, the magical moments, and the sweet moments in love.

After enjoying my personal space forever, I am now ready to share this with someone else. I enjoy a good banter, flirtatious exchange, discussion on silly and serious things, sharing bits of my everyday life with someone.

About me: I’m a 28 year old Indonesian, currently working in South Korea for a pharmaceutical company. I love going to museums, art galleries, historical places, my music ranges from classical to pop-punk. When holiday comes, I love travelling. On the weekend, I like trying new recipes or play my favourite cozy games.

I care and observe silently. I'm the kind to remember someone's coffee order, their photo angle preference, and their mannerism. I am happy to be able to recall what someone says months ago, not in a creepy way, I promise.

I grew up as an eldest daughter in a traditional muslim family. My relationship with religion is evolving, but I still keep bits of that upbringing close to my heart, including wearing my hijab out of respect for my mother who had done a lot for me.

I truly believe a relationship built on sincerity, loyalty, stability, and devotion would last forever. I admire a man who is capable, emotionally grounded, and intentional about the future he wants to build.

If you are someone gentle, confident without needing to dominate the room, ambitious, serious about creating something long-term and believe that we can create a beautiful interaction which would make this life feel softer, I would love to know you 🤍

📍Cheongju, South Korea

A bit of a culture shock when I found out that I was provided a separate bowl to eat from. Unlike Pepper Lunch where you eat directly from the sizzling plate
