Struggling with vitiligo on my face

Hi, i went to the dermatologist due to an unusual pink-colored patch on my face a few days ago. She used some kind of light (not wood light test? The devices look different), and basically, one side of my face practically lit up like a christmas tree. Now under the naked eye one can only see a round pink patch on my face. It looks like ringworm, but it is not.

She said i have vitiligo. I wish i could have asked her questions, but she was on a tight schedule. I will see her in november though. She prescribed me some medicine (tra something?), and i am still waiting to see if my insurance approves it or not.

That being said, i am a bit embarrassed about it. I do not mind having vitiligo, but people do stare at me for having that pink spot on my face. If it clearly looks like vitiligo, no problem. Like i said, it can pass as ringworm, and that is more embarrasing to me.

Any thoughts about that? I just wanted to talk about it with somebody so i won't feel a bit alone in this.

Terrastonecn reviews/flooring ideas?

Hi. I recently bought a house, and my flooring was done DIY decades ago, so many ceramic tiles are badly cracked. I will have to get new flooring, hopefully, in one or two years from now. I fell in love with some of the flooring styles from Terrastonecn. But the problem is that i can't find reviews about the company. Has anybody had experience with them? If not, are there other companies that do similar flooring?

I am in love with the green tiles if it gives you a better idea of what I like.

Boring quotes/mottos?

I checked my work emails to see if we have had gotten information about staff orientation week as it will start in two weeks from now.

I got an email asking teachers to send in our 2 favorite quotes or mottos for the ice breaker activity.

Frankly, the quotes and mottos I like are the kind that pisses off people in authority, so it is a bad idea. Also, I doubt they would appreciate Dungeon Crawler Carl quotes. I want to fly under the radar.

So what are boring quotes/mottos that I can use for my part?

Edit: I love all of your comments. I can't decide which one I want to use.

Emotional regulation struggles: Chores

I'll be honest. Growing up, I never did chores as it was not expected of me and my sibling. Naturally, over time I learned how to do chores.

Now my kids are 5 years and 3 years old, and I really want them to do chores as those are essential skills to have in life. I really want to enforce a simple chore system, but I struggle with regulating my emotions when they refuse to do it. My youngest is more willing to do chores, but when he sees the oldest refusing to do chores.... monkey do, monkey see.

So, I snap easily. It is frustrating for me as i don't want to be that mean mother.

It is not an excuse. I am giving background information... I am a single mother, and my kids' father is mostly absent. He is the "fun uncle" who gives them all the junk food and drinks and toys whatever they want whenever he feels like showing up.

It is just me disciplining my kids as I teach then the ways of life. I don't have any other adult in the household to reinforce the chore system.

I don't want my kids to see chores as a punishment, but I don't know how parents in healthy households enforce chores without traumatizing their kids. I try to regulate my emotions, but sometimes the house is messy, and I just get overwhelmed. It is easier for me to do everything myself, but in the long run if I don't make them do chores, they may never do chores as they might rely on their partners, if any, to do everything for them. I don't want to see that happen. I will prefer them to become functional adults who actually clean up. I hope i am making sense.

Any advice or support will be greatly appreciated.

Will we get more rain?

Hi.

It is just a vent. Despite my efforts to water my aspen tree often, it is losing its leaves due to the drought. I am frustrated with the monsoon season as there were some (obviously unreliable in hindsight) predictions that we will have a good monsoon season this year.

Daily suncare routine?

I have recently become more vigilant about sunscreen. I was one of those kids who used tanning oil during summers while growing up because my parents insisted thst it would protect me from sunburns. FYI, it didn't.

So I want to implement a daily suncare routine with my kids, but i am not sure how it works. Do yoh immediately put sunscreen on them once yoy pick them up? Obviously, hats and sunglasses are important. I am just wondering how it works with reapplying sunscreen every other 2 hours with school in their daily life. I dont expect them to apply sunscreen at school throughout the day, but how does it work when yoy pick them up?

Cooling blanket for night sweats?

I don’t sweat much at night. Neither does my oldest. However, my youngest (3 years old) sweats a lot at night, even when the fan is on.

I am not sure what to do. Would a cooling blanket help him? I have been seen all those cooling blankets for sale online, and those are so expensive. I want to get input on how to reduce his night sweats.

Coping methods with anxiety?

Hi y’all.

My oldest will start kindergarten this August. I am excited for him as it is amazing to watch kids meet milestones over time.

However, I have been seeing a pattern in how he responds to stress. Last spring he had a chronic runny nose. It was chalked up to spring allergies, but over time, I am starting to suspect that his body responds to stress through a runny nose.

For instance, today I was trying to teach him how to tie shoes, and in turn, he suddenly had a runny nose. He was stressed out even though we only focused on the first step of the tying shoelaces process. He broke down and cried. In the past, whenever an adult, including myself, held him accountable for his behavior, he will just cry and have a runny nose. The runny nose goes away once he calms down.

So I am not sure how to approach this as I know kindergarten is more academically rigor. Whenever things become challenging, he tends to give up easily and will do everything to avoid whatever he doesn’t want to do.

Any input?

Edit to add: he will see his pediatrician for a wellness checkup next week. I plan to bring it up with her. I don’t know. My mind is still grappling that somebody could have a sudden runny nose in response to stress, and I do want to provide my kid with adequate support for when he starts kindergarten. He has been going to school full time since he was 18 months old, but Early Childhood Education seems to be different from kindergarten.

Mole disappearing over time— now I have a strange white ring.

The last few years have been rough for me, so I never bothered to do anything about my skincare until now. I used to have a large mole in the middle of where the white ring is, but it has pretty much disappeared except for a tiny dot. I plan to see a dermatologist, but the waitlist around here is 6-12 months long.

Uh… I don’t know. I just want to get people’s input.

What kind of changes?

I might have a dumb question. My firstborn will go to kindergarten this fall. Due to one or two posts talking about surprise development changes, it makes me wonder… do kids really change a lot during kindergarten? Like what?

Strange dilemma (Jon Klassen)

I have a strange dilemma. My youngest hates reading. He is only 3 years old, but he really hates reading. We are a deaf family, so reading aloud books don’t work because he will either fight my oldest to get his attention or just bounce off the walls while avoiding eye contact with me. He is the polar opposite of my oldest who loves reading. I’ve tried many different methods: letting him pick out his own books, getting books that cater to his interests, and so on. Nothing worked, which makes it a nightly battle to read books to both of them.

However, I recently realized that my youngest will only pay attention when I read aloud Jon Klassen books. He even listened to me when I read aloud The Skull from the beginning to the end, which is 112 pages long! I came to that conclusion because I decided to grab a bunch of all the Jon Klassen books from the library today in wonder if he would be okay with me reading them to him. Sure enough, he listened to me reading aloud a Jon Klassen book before falling asleep.

Now… Jon Klassen didn’t write hundreds of books, so I am wondering if there are similar books (maybe in terms of aesthetics or vibes?) to his books that my kid would like to read?

On a relevant note, I find it ironic that I gave him a name from one of the Jon Klassen books and didn’t make a connection until after birth. Haha. 😆

Name of that trail?

For some reason, the Internet won’t show me the name of that trail close to the ski resort. It is like Nordic or something like that. It is in between the overlook and the ski resort. Pretty much an easy loop for hiking.

Any help?

Brain Games/teasers for barely 5 year old kid?

Hi y’all.

My oldest just turned 5 years old a few days ago, and he will start kindergarten this fall.

I impulsively ordered a maze workbook for his birthday, and I was surprised by how quickly he picked up on it. Moreover, he really enjoys it insofar as he completed 22 mazes in 30 minutes.

It does make me wonder if he would enjoy any other brain game similar to mazes workbooks. He really likes writing, and he is already doing the handwriting without tears curriculum at school.

I want to cultivate his enthusiasm for that kind of thing. Although I am trying to avoid board games because we have so many stuff around the house. We are a Deaf family, so anything that is auditory-based is ineffective for us.

I do read books with him as much as I could. He hates flash cards though.

Putting aside my ramblings, if you have any recommendation, let me know!

Confused about lack of payment plans

Hi. I am asking my question in hopes that I won’t have to use my sick leave hours just to call my student loan company (Mohela) as I am trying to salvage my sick hours.

Basically, all of my loans are on the SAVE plan, and admittedly, I’ve procrastinated looking up the payment plans on Mohela until today.

So far there are no payments plans where I can calculate the monthly payments per plan before making my decision, which I found quite surprising.

Does anybody else notice the same? Is there a reason for that? Do I have to wait until July 1st to decide which payment plan I want?
