I am interested in switching to Graphene OS (waiting for Pixel 11 support) and have a few questions about wearables with Graphene OS.
Understanding that the point of Graphene is to take back control of your privacy, and smart watches are the antithesis of that, is there a fair compromise to using both? I currently have a Galaxy Watch 6 Classic that I mainly use for its wireless payment abilities.
I was originally going to have the Galaxy Wearable App in a separate profile - would this prevent notifications from apps installed in other profiles (whatsapp, signal, etc) from appearing on my watch, even if notification forwarding is enabled? If so, would having it in a private space be any different?
How many permissions could you disable for Galaxy Wearables while still allowing you to use it effectively - ie - I imagine that network access is required for the watch to display the current weather.
Sincerely appreciate all of your thoughts
Graphene took months to be supported on the pixel 10 because of a change in how Google shared their code as well as the release coinciding with a new android update. Out of curiosity, when would find out if the pixel 11 would have the same graphene release schedule or if it might go back to the few week turnaround time of previous pixels.
(Eager first timer waiting for the pixel 11 to switch to graphene)
I'm considering leaving the google home ecosystem for home assistant. What would be the best device to purchase given the current price of RAM? (I just found out that home assistant green used to be $99, it's now $199...)
Please know that I have no idea how to use (or read) github, and will be mainly using home assistant to control lights / blinds, set alarms and timers, and basic things like this. The satellite 1.1 also seems very interesting! (Does anyone have thoughts on this as I will be coming from a google home mini).
I learned that faster-whisper, speech-to-text, and piper are all add-ons that I should download. (Also learned that you can use a STT fallback so that I can have very fast response times with the basic STT for controlling my smart items, while still adding things such as custom shopping list items or requesting a specific song to play via faster-whisper).
Thank you very much in advance / hoping actually using home assistant isnt as daunting as it seems.
Hi all - I just created a plant shelf wall between two closets in my kitchen. The pictures attached are with the LED ceiling lights on and in natural sunlight from a window. The room is fairly dim with the lights off. Do you think these plants will survive in these conditions? (I'm not expecting them to flourish into a beautiful giant plant - am perfectly fine with them just surviving in these 4 inch pots).
On the top right there is a pothos with a lemon buttons fern underneath. On the left is a philodendron on top with a zz plant below.
Measuring the lux with lights off from my phone, its maybe 20ish... Turning the lights on surprisingly do not increase the lux of the plants. I know that is very low - hoping the accuracy of using my phone is the issue?
Lastly, if you dont think these plants will survive, may I ask the "cleanest" way to add grow lights? There is no outlet nearby. A quick amazon search seems like USB powered pucks only last maybe 6 hours on a single charge?
Would a rotation cycle be better?
Thank you very much in advance
Hi all - I currently use a galaxy s23 and am strongly considering purchasing a pixel 11 to use grapheneos. Out of curiosity, is there an app that shows you exactly how much data / telemetry is being collected from your apps? It would be very interesting to visualize how much less data is being sent after the transition. The exodus app shows you how many permissions and trackers each app has, but that is a little different.
I recently moved my google home mini and various smart devices to a guest network on my Verizon Fios Router. The google home mini worked fine for several hours before it (along with all of my smart devices went offline).
Will smart devices work on a dedicated guest network? I believe that Verizon's dedicated IoT wifi connection does not isolate the devices from your primary network.
Any advice or recommendations you have to offer would be greatly appreciated.
The passive (right) speaker of my Kanto YU2 speakers (purchased 3 years ago) suddenly stopped working. Removing and then replacing the same wires did not resolve the issue. I have not moved the speakers, adjusted them, and they are in mint condition. The passive speaker does work randomly for a few minutes at a time - there are no issues with the powered (right speaker).
Has anyone encountered this before and know of a solution? It physically feels very weird hearing things only from the left speaker...
Title. I just installed two smart curtain 3s and linked them to my mini hub matter. I was able to link my hub to my google home, but the google home app does not display the actual curtains. The hub icon on google home just says that the temperature is unavailable.
Can you please advise what to do so that I can control my curtains via my google home mini?
I moved into a "newer" building with central air last summer - the first thing that I noticed was how dry the air felt, especially in my small bedroom, even though the thermostat said the humidity was above 60%. Somehow I remember that stopped being an issue, and I bought a humidifier for the winter.
The same dry sensation started again last week and has been preventing me from sleeping. My humidifier wont really do much because my apartment's thermostat says the humidity is 65%.
Does anyone know what could be causing this and more importantly how to resolve it? I really just want to be able to sleep peacefully without my eczema acting up
Has anyone been able to constantly win on the deity difficulty? I came close in my last run where I was two conquered cities short of domination - Benjamin was close to a cultural victory (with a science victory shortly after), and conquering cities from another civ pushed Benjamin over the edge into a cultural one. There was no way that 5 turns was enough for me to conquer a city (standards sized map) that had a wonder.
All of my other runs have seen the AI greatly outproduce me in science, units, culture, etc. I'm trying a science dedicated focus now and am just keeping up with the lowest AI.
I know the AI cheats and receives bonuses, but is this normal? It's disheartening and I'm not sure what else I can do to keep out.
Title. I can't seem to build factories in any settlement after researching mass production. Would the community be able to assist?
I just received an email from shinyhunters about this amtrack hacking (purchased tickets via amtrack once several years ago). The email went directly into my gmail spam folder and I did not open it. Is there anything I should do / be concerned about?
I know this will be taken down, but the quality of submissions have declined terribly in the last few years. We have a ton of political related content related to the middle east, we have a bunch of bar graphs, maps without any actually content or keys, just a lot of low quality spam. Is there anyway we can improve the quality of this sub reddit?
I'm thinking about jumping ship from my Galaxy 23 to a pixel for Graphene and am curious to hear the community's thoughts about Beeper. Having one "unifed" messaging app sounds really great, but then this probably introduces additional privacy concerns as well.
Does anyone use Beeper with Graphene and can share their experience?
I purchased an Ikea hemnes TV stand last fall and noticed that one of the drawers as well as the top has started to bubble - this may potentially be to direct sunlight in the late afternoon. What I find very surprising is that the bubbling is limited to specific blanks (as seen in the picutres) as opposed to across the entire surface.
Can the community recommend an easy way to address or mitigate this? I purchased a furniture paint marker advertised specifically for ikea hemnes black-brown, but there is a noticeable difference when applied.
Please also keep in mind that I do not have access to sanding equipment and do not wish to accidently damage the items further.
Bonus - one of the drawers has developed a splintering crack out of the blue as well.
Ikea wont assist as it is out of the 180 day return policy.
I moved into a new rental apartment last summer and there is a 3 inch gap between two blinds. This gap leads to intense sunlight directly hitting my TV from noon till sunset from Spring to Fall. I pleasantly discovered a "burn in line" on my TV last week as a result. (Luckily an OLED pixel refresh run fixed it)
Are there any low-e safe window films I can apply to maybe an 8 inch wide area of my window to stop the direct heat? My window is low-e (shined my phone's flashlight and recieved 4 reflections, the second of which had a different color). I would love to avoid damaging my TV further while also not cracking my rental window.
Of note - the window itself is wide, but I'm willing to risk it looking slightly off by only applying the film in a small portion of the window running from the top to the bottom.
Thanks in advance!
