Best online place to connect with other Toronto musicians to form a band?

Hello!

Does anyone know of a good online platform to find other like minded musicians for collaboration purposes?

This sub seems a bit too broad: I feel there must be a dedicated place to connect like-minded musicians (something akin to a dating app would be perfect, but I know that doesn’t exist.). Remember classified ads, and craigslist?

The reason I ask:

I’m an old amateur guitarist with an awkward experience level (not good enough to be pro, but not a hack), niche musical aspirations and an undeserved aversion to compromise.

So not a lot of demand for what I am offering. 🤣🤣🤣🤣. But Toronto has a lot of people, so maybe my match is out there.

(Ps, perhaps I am mistaken about this sub; has anyone had luck forming a band here?)

(Pss: I know that organic networking is the best way, but i have exhausted that avenue)

Most drugs are not beneficial.

I just read a theory that a bunch of guys were taking gbh for fun. Got me thinking…

I know the mantra is supposed to be “ no judgment”, but I would prefer our community to be more willing to delineate between drugs that are relatively safe and positive (when appropriate precautions are taken) and those that aren’t.

Shrooms, weed, acid and molly, when taken properly, are pretty safe for most people.

Cocaine, GBH, opioids, K, etc. have a higher cost / benefit ratio, so need to be treated with more care, or just avoided.

Problems occur when people are just getting fucked up, and not seeking a collective transcendence.

Now I am a libertarian when it comes to these things, but I think with freedom comes responsibility, and those of us who have been partying for a while, owe it to young people to show some discretion and judgment.

Just my opinion.

Edit: Many folks have effectively critiqued some of my points above, particularly my categorization of specific drugs. I think they are good points. I would like to revise my thesis somewhat: my point is that not all drugs are created equally, and I would encourage everyone to research and consider the costs and benefits of each drug before taking them. And we should feel comfortable discussing our findings.

Edit 2: Here are some of the cost and benefit factors I believe are worth considering (taken from one of my comments):

Potential Costs:

- addictiveness

- physical risks

- mental and emotional risks

- risk of overdose

- adverse impact in personality

Potential Benefits:

- spiritual wellbeing, including mystical potential

- social interaction

- fun

- mental health benefits.

What do the stats mean (eg “Philidor Defense. played 318 times, 46% win rate”

Greetings. Curious, in the example above, are they saying I played the Philidor Defence 318 times or is it the whole chess.com community, or…?

I don’t think it’s me, I never use this move. And it’s too low a count to be the whole community.

TIDAL USERS - “Level 5” is uploaded under a different artist profile

They forgot to capitalize “the” in their name and it appears to have made a different artist profile. Those of us that are old enough might remember having an itunes library list a band multiple times due to these types of sorting errors.

You can search their name and scroll down a bit to find this account.

Donna and Comes a Time, May 21, 1977, Lakeland

Found this via Headyversions. Maybe I zeroed in on it as the top ranked version on an official release?

Been digging deep into this recording, can’t stop playing the recording, playing it on guitar and even singing it (not my forte, to say the least).

Funny, I found Jerry ballads to be too slow when I was young. Now they are my favs (big surprise: age!). And this one really speaks to me now: it evokes a particular bittersweet life experience I’ve had.

Anyway, there are a dozen things I love about this version. But I am here to call out how lovely Donna’s part is. I love when she sings so gentle plaintive and clear.

Thanks Donna.

Out today: Michael Ray, Kevin Hearn and Hugh Marsh interpreting 4 Sun Ra songs (EP)

(Edit: The EP is called: “I Land In Space”)

Four Sun Ra compositions:

They’ll Come Back

Island In the Sun

New Horizons / Along Came Ra / We Travel the Spaceways

Sea of Darkness.

Haven’t listened to more than the opening track, but based on that alone, it will be great.

Julian Lage as opener!

I just crawled out from under a rock and realized this is kinda a big deal. John Medeski played on this last album.

Exciting!!!!

Goose PSA: lotta tix available for under face (i’m not selling)

Goose is at the Amphitheatre soon. It’s wild, but there are lots of low priced tickets left. Ontario’s outlawing of tickets over face is perhaps partly to credit. Good for music fans, but I feel a bit bad for the band: they priced the tickets low, but it hasn’t seem to caught on. And also, I want them to do well so they return every year.

Anyway, they are a smoking hot jam band, tighter than most, and great for psychedelics. I suggest folks check it out. Gonna be the psych highlight of the year.

Estrogen levels may dictate how the brain reacts to psilocybin, new animal study indicates

Study on rats indicates that estrogen may dampen the effect of psilocybin.

If this holds for humans, then a woman’s sensitivity to shrooms would fluctuate predictably through the menstrual cycle and would also be impacted by menopause etc.

Layperson article:

Sure, hurl abuse at Fraser.

But those kids were already crushed

A bunch of overweight couch jockeys yelling at tfc kids was more pathetic than tfc’s performance.

Clarification: by kids, I mean the teenaged players that faced the “supporters”.
