Which wall for built in desk/bookcase?

I'm planning a full length bookcase / desk in the downstairs office / dining room.

I cannot decide if I want it on the left wall, so you see it as you come into the kitchen, or the right wall so it's hidden.

The right door going into the office will have to be the one that opens first.

This makes the desk on the left more approachable from entering.

But certainly a much bigger statement when you walk in.

(I am going to build it so that I can turn it into a dresser should we ever need to use it as a dining room / move.

So I am also trying to think what's best from that angle too. )

AITA for pointing out shop's labelling mistake?

We were on a shopping trip and stepped into an independent boba shop, as I was waiting for my order I was looking at their display of cakes etc.

I noticed they were selling macarons labeled as macaroons (two different things).

The shop wasn't busy and one of the employees was sort of just standing around, so I mentioned it.

"Oh by the way, those cakes are called macarons, but the little sign says macaroons".

What I didn't realise was that the employee didn't have a great grasp of English, and didn't know what a macaroon was.

It took a good few minutes, and I kind of wished I hadn't said anything.

I was just trying to help, but my wife thinks I shouldn't bother them.

What has been the fix that made you think " why has noone done this before?"

The previous owners used to have their blinds closed most of the day, as there is a footpath very close to the front of the house.

You would get nosy gonks staring at you at all times of the day.

It took about 35 minutes to apply a frosting to the glass and suddenly the whole room was way lighter and a nicer space to be in.

They lived there nearly 10 years at that point.

Another place, the builders put in the most stupid bathroom cabinet in the world.

It looked massive, but the sink, pipework and stairs behind it, meant you have a tiny space to store things.

I swapped the sink to a counter top one, and remade the cabinet to go all the way to the back of the space.

Probably five times the storage space.

What is you most unusual WFH office improvement?

We've all seen the questions about cheap upgrades, best upgrades, essential upgrades etc on repeat.

I was interested in your most unusual or super specific upgrades you have made to your working space.

Today I fitted a curtain in my doorway using a tension rod. It means the door can be slightly ajar, letting pets in/out but also maintain privacy and reduce some noise.

Finding the last item in the shelf, only for some knobhead to have opened it up.

Does it now have missing parts? Have they damaged it when opening it? Have they messed around with it? It's a mystery.

Until the next poor sod gets it home, only to have to bring it right back again.

If you want to see what's in the box, buy it and return it if it's not what you want.

Don't pass the issue on to the next guy.

Has anyone had a glass sided veranda fitted?

We rarely use our garden and I think a space out of the rain / wind would give it a lot more use.

But I am having a bit of a nightmare getting quotes and finding reputable companies.

Has anyone had one fitted or looked into one that can share their experience?

(For those wondering: we have a drain that would be near impossible to get moved. So conventional extensions / conservatories are far more expensive.

Would look at a plug in heater for winter and the walls all slide open to let heat out in summer.

It's partially in the shade as is, but would look at sails if it gets too hot. )

Edit:
As there are so many people just commenting on how hot/cold it would be. Which wasn't really the point of this post, or accurate if you have ever actually been in one. To add:

  • This is not a conservatory, it does not act like one.
  • This would be placed in the shade, so would be out of the sun for most of the day.
  • When it does have sun, this has built in blinds.
  • It will not be an "oven" or "magnifying glass", or "greenhouse".
  • Yes it will need heating, but as per my original post. There will be a heater.

Best, cheap, beard oil? (UK)

I so rarely do this, but I treated myself to an expensive bottle of oil , only for the lid to break off while travelling. Less than a week in.

Replaced that with a middle of the road bottle, only to find it too thick.

Rather than waste even more money, what's your everyday beard oil that works well, but doesn't cost?

My beard is short, relatively straight. I mainly use to give control and soften before a light beard balm.

Pain for six weeks now, tendon injury?

Male 39

5ft 7

73kg

No meds.

Don't smoking

No previous issues.

Issues lasting six weeks.

Sharp pain to inner elbow.

I was lifting a heavy box, with a straight arm. When someone pushed down on it.

I had an immediate sharp pain either side of my inner elbow.

The pain has reduced, but is still there when I try to lift anything over 5kg. I can feel slight discomfort over 3kg.

The pain is localised to the inner elbow, no pain is felt pushing e.g a pushup.

All I can see to do is to rest the joint.

I'm not sure if I should be using joint supports or when to book an appointment.

Is anyone caffeine free, apart from matcha?

I'm not sure if this is super specific just to me, but...

I cut all caffeine when tritrating and have managed well without, for ages.

Just occasionally, I will hit a real slump. No sleep + travelling + early start. I can barely cope.

So I tried a (admittedly weak) matcha and felt none of the palpitations, or sweats I would get from coffee.

I felt pretty good, and while I wouldn't make it a regular thing. I would consider keeping some handy.

I just wondered if anyone has made the switch, and how it went for you.

(Even though it has higher caffeine, I guess the l tyrosine levels it all out.)

Are all hotel Chocolat staff really nice?

I was away from home and popped into a hotel Chocolat shop (which I don't typically do), the staff member was so nice and patient with my youngest child, I had to write a positive review when I got home.

A week or so later, I went to my local one, to buy something I sampled from before.

Again, stand out stellar service. Couldn't do enough to help me.

I was wondering if this was typical, if they just employ people with great customer service skills, or does enough chocolate make you happy?
