Help me cut down my Naya Provoke Bushido-Matters Deck

Hello,

I have tried now to build a deck around the Bushido Keyword, which I know is infamous for not being strong, but with forced Blockers and a couple of pumps, i think on my table where we play roughly bracket 2 decks and precons only, it could work.

Decklist: https://archidekt.com/decks/23983076/bushido

I am struggling however with what cards to cut, or maybe it is even too bloated with the idea that i have? I am at 185 currently and everything feels to me "too important".

My "Maybeboard" has already all the things I have cut so far.

Sideboard contains 1 potential "infinite combo" (Aggravated Assault + Bear Umbra = infinite combat phases) and alternate commanders.

General idea: Force opponents to block a certain creature/target opponent creatures block a certein creature of mine -> Bushido triggers for pump, also Samurais are cool.

Equipment/Aura subtheme for protection and deathtouch to make those force blocks become removal. On the offensive side I try to add in trample, lifelink, vigilance and doublestrike and a +1/+1 counters theme to slowly ramp up.

This is not an Exalted/attacks alone focussed deck!! Usually i want to attack with 2+ creatures, one being the forced block target while the other swings without hindrance (at least that's the idea)

Any help is appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Need help with a Lure/Provoke styled Bushido Samurai Deck

Hello everyone,

I know Bushido is a wild mechanic and I know good ol' Kamigawa is not powerful because Samurais cost too much... but hear me out:

The level of play I am aiming for:

Ever since I started playing Commander I wanted to throw a somewhat viable Commander Deck together and my current playgroup is of the mind to play "fun and janky decks", nothing too optimised. We are talking precons to slightly upgraded precons. Call it "Bracket 2.5", maybe 1 gamechanger max. No land removals, no big counter spell meta, we just want to have fun, but a little bit optimised. Some of us just play straight up precons and that's just it.

What I think my Deck should do:

Bushido is an ability that gets triggered only when blocking of getting blocked (!!!), it can NOT be doubled by e.g. Isshin (common misconception, as I have heard), so I want to make sure, my Samurais are getting blocked all the time (and survive). To do so, I discovered [[Lure]] and [[Provoke]] effects: https://archidekt.com/decks/23961613/samurai_bushido_lure_deck (not a full decklist!)

I just threw a rough List together, because I thought I could go the "toughness matters" route of all the spells that could work like this, hence why maybe Abzan with [[Felothar the Steadfast]]at the helm? The amazing part about this is that e.g. [[Odric, Master Tactician] or [[Grappling Hook]] would work wonders because I can choose who blocks when I attack. This makes it so, that ofc. I can target and pump individual pieces. Also black gives easy access to Deathtouch-enablers, which means when everything blocks 1 creature with Deathtouch, i can just pump and assign only 1 point per dmg to all creatures and no matter their toughness, they all will get killed.

I am not sure if these cards are even enough, and I know red also has quite a few good cards, e.g. [[Nacatl Hunt-Pride]], [[Academic Dispure]], [[Mark for Death]], etc.

What am I struggling with:

I think this idea, in general, is solid. Green for good ramp. Get those expensive Samurai out, have a few low-cost mana-dorks and drawers. However, I do not know how to close the game. I know the "disruption plan", but I don't know how to actually beat my 3 other opponents. If they just do not block, my dmg will be low, so I need more pump (hence green+trample), or Double Strike (hence white). What would be my wincon? Just beating them down? Any ideas on alternate-wincons? Go into an equipment subtheme?

Also... Abzan for aforementioned ideas and maybe scaling toughness might be worth it? Idk. I wouldn't know what Naya commander to use?

- [[Atla Palani, Nest-Tender]] (cheating out more samurais on block, i guess?)

- [[Jetmir, Nexus of Revels]] (but I am assuming Jetmir leans more into token decks and not "a few highly powered up creatures"?)

- [[Marisi, Breaker of the Coil]] (leaning into if I actually damage a player, they have to attack everyone except me, but that would be somewhat counterintuitive to the blocking aspect of bushido?)

Thank you very much in advance for your help.

Trying to build a weapon-based retribution-based full caster

Hey everyone,

so I am a big Gish-fan, as many probably are. But what is a Gish really? In my definition of a Gish, a Gish not only casts spells, but also attacks with weapons or combines spells and attacks. Ever since ye olde Pathfinder 1 and Magus days, I have been infatuated with this idea.

So what I am trying to build for my new upcoming campaign is a character that can both cast spells (any spells!) AND attack with martial weapons. I know that I will be 100% MAD, being SAD in this constellation unless going the obvious route of Hexblade-dip etc. is impossible afaik.

Plus i also love CHA as a dumpstat. And STR.

My question for the end is: Can this work, is there a better way?

So what's the idea so far?

My initial idea is building a Battle Smith Artificer mixed with a War Cleric. Going for high WIS and INT, Cult Initiate Feat if needs be, otherwise probably Tough, Goliath as race.

Clerics famously are known as melee casters, but truly this comes down to Inflict Wounds and Spirit Guardians. I kind of want to hit people with a big Greataxe in their face though.

War Priest from the War Cleric allows me to cast a levelled spell and then attack with my weapon as a bonus action. No prerequisites. But since I won't be pushing STR or DEX, I will have to make sure my attacks hit. Up to T2 range, I can easily utilize True Strike.

The idea with Goliath is to cast Armor of Agathys (Cult Initiate) and reduce damage, be an easy target due to lower AC, and reduce the dmg then. Upcast it later for more Temp HP and more dmg.

I won't have high dex, so AC will be low. I want to push both INT and WIS, because my current idea ist to go the following levelling route:

1: Artificer 1

2: Cleric 1

3: Artificer 2

4: Artificer 3

5: Cleric 2 (maybe Artificer 4 if I am casting A LOT and need War Caster)

6: Cleric 3 (getting my pseudo extra attack with War Priest)

7-onwards: Depends if I really want to rush Feat+Extra Attack, or if want more Cleric spells.

This way I always have the choice on my turn to either hit people twice with my weapon, or cast a (levelled) spell+hit people and I only need 1 setup round where i usually will cast things like Resistance+AoA anyways and then I start bonking people and have even nice, supportive ranged options available like Guiding Bolt.

Later on I also get Spirit Guardians obviously, and I also can attack with INT due to Battle Smith.

Does this work the way I think? Are there better options/ideas that do not necessarily leave me at half caster progression and give me more tools than "just Eldritch Blast".

I know the classic Gishes nowadays are College of Valor Bard and Bladesinger Wizard (lvl. 6 extra attack and replacing one attack with a cantrip.

We also have classic EK with War Magic at Lvl. 7 that does the same?

The only notable exceptions to that rule that I found were, as I said, War Cleric with War Priest and College of Dance Bard (using bardic inspiration for any action spell gives a free unarmed strike).
