Sign name

At work I have an extra name tag that says “Deaf. I know ASL.” I don’t use it often as I tend just speak and listen to orders as well as I can. I have the ASL part on there for other deaf/HOH people so they know they aren’t alone when they come to the counter.

Today a lady came up who was HOH but spoke. She said she studied ASL for 8 years and asked me what my sign name is. I told her I didn’t have one yet. I don’t know any other ASL users in my community and I don’t know how to get one.

How do I get a sign name?

Made this for work

I don’t have a pin that says it otherwise I would use that. So I took an extra name tag and made this!

Can I wear a disability pin?

Just started a week ago. I’m deaf and I’m wondering if I’m allowed to wear a pin that says I’m deaf on my apron!

What’s your biggest ick as someone who is deaf/or HOH?

For me, it’s when someone tells me I should be wearing my hearing aids. My hearing aids tend to contribute to my migraines so I don’t wear them much.

No one but me gets to dictate when and where I wear my hearing aids.

I’m going deaf, AMA

I’ve been Hard of hearing since I can remember. My father has hearing issue as well. But it’s recently been discovered that my hearing issues may be from a disease called Mineres Disease. This causes me to have migraines, massive vertigo, ear pain, and hearing loss which will make me completely deaf soon.

AMA.

Hi! I'm looking for some penpals to write snail mail with! l'a love to send the first letter! I'm 23 in the U.S., I'm studying history and film, currently going to into my junior year of university. I'm also heard of hearing but snail mail won't have any effect on that. Lol. I'd love to send mail all around the world and the US!

I love YouTubers Dan and Phil, movies like hunger games, Cinderella man, gladiator, and other history films. I also love musicals/plays.

I am in love with Shakespeare and have a degree in theatre!

DM me if interested!

Questions to ask NF

Hello! Im starting with a new family this summer. Just a summer nanny family before I move to a different town. I have nannied before for a 1 year old and a 6 month old.

Then I taught preschool for two years and now I’m back. My preschoolers were around 3-5 years old.

This NF has one child, 3 y/o. We’re meeting tomorrow and they want me to start on Wednesday. I insisted on meeting in public first. I’d like to ask them some questions and get to know them and their way of doing things. What are some questions and conversations to have? So far I have:

- Is (child) have any allergies?
- Does (child) take naps and what time?
- what is (child)’s personality like?

I know there is so much more but they’re all slipping my mind right now.

No ASL at school

Just a rant: I’m transferring to a new Uni, and during my advising meeting I was told one of the requirements is language. I told the advisor that I can’t do language because I am deaf and can’t hear or pickup new sounds, also struggle with English anyways. I asked if they had ASL because that would be great for the requirement and I need to learn it anyways.

The advisor said no (I get not everywhere has ASL) and said “well…you still need to learn a new language and get over the being deaf thing.”

What?! WHAT?!

Speech is lacking

F23, HOH. I’ve been increasingly HOH all my life, but never struggled with speech. Now I’ve noticed it’s getting harder for me to speak without stuttering or just having to slowly talk.

Could this be caused by my HOH? Anyone else experience this?

Hi!! I'm an undergrad coming in with associates degree.

I've never been to a big university. I have a disease that is making me go increasingly deaf. I'm going to a different university than my deaf friends at my current school and I'm still navigating being deaf.

Any deaf students out there? Any advice or words of encouragement anyone could give? I'm looking forward to the fall!!

I will be living on campus in a single due to my chronic illness.

If you have questions about me too, I'm happy to answer them!

I'm moving from Reno, so I'd love to get to know new people!
