Steak in apartment with tiny range hood

Air fryer back again :)

Problem isn't with air fryer itself. It is with most air fryer not having a low fan speed + low temp option to make it behave more like a triditional oven.

I cut the steak prettu thick to around 1 1/2-inch (picanha, because only cut I can afford lol)

Made this using medium heat on carbon steel. Cooked on the fat cap a bit. Then flip every 30 seconds. For a total of about 3 min.

I found that to get a good crust, it is important to keep surface free or moister. so I use towel to dry it while cooking. I don't add any cooking oil, and just render the fat cap a bit more whenevern I need.

Then I use lowest fan speed and 130f in my air fryer, to slowly bring it up to around 52c.

Not sure what it finished at but I think I am pretty happy with the result consider the low effort :)

Is home made sashimi worth it anymore

Where is everyone getting salmon?
I’ve been buying from Costco, but just started to weight my sashimi, I realize when I go to AYCE restaurant, I easily eat 50 pieces of salmon plus some other side dishes (other sashimi, love mackerel and lean tuna, and other side dishes like raw eggs, beef lamb skews, beef tataki etc). that’s probably 1kg salmon sashimi alone

I think it is not even worth it to buy my own salmon at $34/kg, when AYCE typically coasts around $50

I guess this is location dependent, but where are torontoian buying salmon from? I'm sure the restaurants are still making money, wondering where are they getting it for so cheap. Only place I can think of is some supermarkets typically sells it for cheaper, but not too sure about food safety when they don’t advertise raw consumption (technically Costco also doesn’t, but I trust their quality)

Btw all pictures are homemade other then second last picture, from an AYCE place

Costco ungraded ribeye cap, what doneness is this?

only cooked the ribeye cap part, used the thermometer to 'tie' it together.

pull from cast iron at 50c, ended up going up to 58c (was aiming for 55c), but looks pretty rare for some reason. Taste very good tho :)

quite difficult to cook very thin steak.

(Bought from Costco business center in toronto, the kirkland vacuum seal ones)

Ungraded steak, but would you say this is around a choice grade?

salmon: raw vs grilled

Usually just eat it raw, but today decided to lightly grill different parts of the fish just to try out raw vs grilled.

I think I perfer the lean part of the fish raw, but for the fatty part, I think it tastes better when grilled, makes it feel less oily/chewy.

btw, gotta say slicing sashimi was much harder then it seems lol, mine looks like a mess...

Engine oil for topping up

Hi there, car noob here, this is a 2022 gti, and recently got this msg. I usually have a mobile machanic to switch my engine oil once a year (I don't drive a lot), he told me he used liquid molley 0w20. I am now getting this error half a year after my last oil change. I am wondering if I could just put any 0w20 oil? or I need to get liquid molley (costs quite a bit more)? Does the one in the following screenshot work? Thank you!

Stainless steel sear, finish up in air fryer until 50c internal, rest till 57c, then cut and stir fry just a bit to reheat.
Texture was amazing, despite being very lean. But it does have an aftertaste (that I think many would not like, but I don’t mine)
