Why do I stay?

8 months into marriage and he took me on holiday/vacation and we had an argument one day and while taking space from each other he met a girl over there and exchanged social media and then eventually exchanged numbers. I didn’t find out till maybe two weeks after the holiday because I saw the convo on his phone where he called her love and he said flirtation comments like sweet dreams try not to dream about me. The fact that he has done this and then continued it even when we made up, it’s like does he not have a moral compass? Does he naturally not have the thought to nahh let me not do this I’m married, I gave commitment to someone else.

Why do I even stay with him? In this marriage?

Happy 4th everyone.

Just out of curiosity does anyone do their own celebration or anything? This is my first summer away from home. Almost feels odd that it’s a normal 4th of July day here. Lolol

Online classes

As salam alaykum everyone

For any caregivers or parents interested: I’ve created a small online space for girls (ages 9–12) called The Heart Workshop and it’s now open for anyone who might be interested.

It’s a twice-weekly small group space (3–4 girls) focused on confidence, emotional awareness, and reflection in a calm and supportive environment.

I’m a teacher with a background in psychology, and I’m currently studying Islamic psychology/counselling. I wanted to bring these together into something gentle and practical for young girls, especially as I’ve noticed how important it is for them to have space to reflect and make sense of their emotions in a healthy way.

This is the first introductory version of the workshop, with plans to develop it further in the future.

As salam Alaykum, peace to all who come across this post.

I hope we can engage in respectful and sincere discussion around this topic. My intention is simply to share a reflection based on what I’ve been noticing, and I pray that it benefits us in some way as we strive to better our communities for future generations.

As I grow older, it has been disheartening to see an increasing practice and even acceptance of social status (zaath) groupings within our communities. This can show up in subtle or overt ways that influence decisions around marriage and even friendships.

The idea of zaath is largely cultural rather than Islamic. It has roots in pre-Islamic social systems, particularly in South Asia, where hierarchical caste structures were deeply embedded in society long before Islam spread to the region. Over time, some of these cultural ideas blended into Muslim communities, even though they don’t originate from Islamic teachings.

Islam historically came to challenge and break down these hierarchies, not reinforce them.

Even psychologically, judging people by lineage or status isn’t logical.

It raises an important question: are we unintentionally reviving divisions that go against the spirit of unity and Islam?
