I think I found the fastest way to learn the fretboard

Hey guys! I’m a beginner’s beginner so I’m still working on memorizing the fretboard. It’s a somewhat intimidating task, but like anything it can be simplified. Here’s how I did it:

 1. Remember that everything repeats after the 11th fret so 3 on the E strings (for example) is going to be G, which is the same as 15.
 2. All but four notes are a whole step apart. E & F as well as B & C are a half step apart so your B & E strings are the only ones with a natural first fret note.
 3. Octaves are two strings (or fourths) down & a whole step up as long as you’re before the B string. After the B string they’re a minor third up.
 4. Use a random note generator (this is the one I use) to give you a random note at a pace you pick. Only work with one string at a time. Pick a decent interval between 2 - 4 minutes & find the note it generates both before & after the 12th fret. Say the note out loud &

play it in both places.

Note: unless you have 24 frets you won’t be able to play every note twice so work with what you got. Rinse & repeat for every other string & do this every day. Note 2: the reason I use the website I linked is because it allows you to easily pick which notes you want to appear so I started with natural notes & added in accidentals later. It’ll be slow & clunky the first time or two but I’d recommend doing this whole thing twice a day especially if you’re only doing it for two minutes per string. Eventually your brain will develop landmarks (ex. the fifth frets are usually the easiest to remember right away) & the next time you do the exercise you’ll be way faster.

Edit: also any random note generator you use can be used for whole chords if you’re having difficulty switching between them, although I’d recommend learning chords in pairs rather than just throwing a bunch of notes in the generator for you to get overwhelmed. If you’re more advanced or confident in your skills than I am though, go for it.

I hope this helps someone!

Can I be punk without donating $200,000 to AIPAC through slush funds and shell corporations?

I only have that amount of liquid assets through crypto currency, do you think they’ll accept it and let me be punk?

Fellow beginners! What songs are you learning right now & where do you want to be in a year?

Right now I’m trying to learn House of the Rising Sun (The Animals version) & I can already fumble my way through the chords fairly steadily around 80bpm but for some reason the sweeping (the way the song is actually played) is tripping me up especially on descent. In a year I plan to completely learn 10-15 songs & hopefully buy a guitar that doesn’t buzz on the B & E strings.

I was shoving cellular remote detonated IEDs into my foreskin like I do every day

& then knife guy came up & said “hey you can’t do that due to the US code 842 regarding the unliscensed distribution of improvised explosive devices” & then he stabbed me 63 times in the balls

Just started the game, tell me something I won’t understand until way later

Pretty much title. Could be literally anything that I won’t understand until I’m hours into the game. Hints are fine too.

The game didn’t fully click for me until I almost beat it

Well, I did it. Finally after much longer than I’d like to admit, I beat Sekiro. I chose to betray my dad & send him back to the nursing home, pummel the fuck out of that punk Genichiro & pull his grandad off life support for good. There were a lot of moments where I thought “is it worth it to actually finish this game?” Ex. a headless doing a stool transplant as an actual attack- but I stuck with it all the way through. I barely used any of the prosthetic tools, pretty much just firecrackers, minimal combat arts & practically no consumables except for mini wealth balloons.

That said, for the first third of the game my thoughts were: this is needlessly difficult & I don’t get what people like about it. Then for nearly the rest of the game, it was: this combat system is really cool & flashy but when I play it looks really clunky for some reason. THEN I realized I was at the final fight against Isshin so I decided to backtrack & finish loose ends.

When I tell you that backtracking in Sekiro was the best decision I ever made in a video game god damn am I not kidding. Every enemy was sliced & diced in seconds, enemies that used to absolutely butcher me with projectiles or long combos didn’t have a chance to breathe, I auto piloted while these motherfuckers we’re having the worst days of their lives. I don’t know what happened but holy shit the amount of progress I didn’t even realize I made was insane & the game looked buttery smooth while I was doing it.

After that, it took a few tries but eventually I smoked the Isshin pack & started NG+ right away. Zero deaths & Im almost halfway through the game in record time. When this shit clicks it REALLY clicks, this game is a masterpiece but if you asked me that before I got to the end I wouldn’t have said that. Thanks everybody in this sub for your health this game is 12/10 & it’s a shame we’re never getting that Tomoe DLC

tl;dr I thought the game was alright, backtracked before the end & got to see how I knew all the enemies moves by heart which made me realize how hard this game actually did click for me & then I bullied an elderly man & his punk ass grandson

Hints where to go after ape & senpou?

I got the mortal blade & white lotus. Talked to Kuro & he says I have to go somewhere below Ashina, cool. I look for all the lowest places I can go & I’m running myself around in circles taking tons of terror damage, just kinda lost & need some soft guidance- not the direct answer please.

Tell me something I won’t understand until I beat the game

I made it to Ashina castle & Genichiro feels like the real beginning of the game. He’s a total dick but the difficulty spike makes it feel like this is where the real beginning of the game is. I need motivation to beat him. Tell me something I won’t understand until I get further!

A particular bridge in EoE

Im not gonna lie guys, Im lost. Like totally lost on the >!brige with sentinels.!< I spent a lot of time wracking my brain, trying different things, entering through different areas & I gotta ask for a hint.

What I know: >!The first bridge you get to by exiting the raft during load time/transition between areas in the simulation, the second bridge you have to drop your artifact to see where to put parts of the bridge, for the bridge I’m stuck on you have to find a way to not wake up when the sentinels yell at you. That’s where I’m stuck. Based on a slide reel I saw (I’ve gotten all the simulation slide reels I know of), it looks like you need to kill the hatchling while the hatchling is in the simulation. Other hypotheses are: you need to find a way to sleep underwater to deafen the sound of the alarm.!<

What I’ve tried: >!I’ve tried sleeping while on the fire, getting close to death & sleeping, etc. I’ve also tried sleeping while underwater so there’s no alarm bell sound, tried to die in the simulation while trying to get as close as possible, crossing the bridge without the artifact, etc.!<

What I need: >!I would like a gentle hint for how to break the final seal or to be told that it looks like I don’t know enough & need to keep exploring.!<

I feel like I’m close to figuring it out but I hit a few walls. General guidance/hints about the ATP & related stuff?

I feel like I’m somewhere close to the end game. If I’m not, please correct me!! I still just don’t know how to get to the center to of the ember or ash twin. I’ve done damn near everything else I can think of (including reading the rumor logs over and over) but I feel like I hit a wall again so Im asking for help. What are general hints that will help me discover the Ash Twin Project? Also, I’ve been to one half of the Sun Station & I’ve been to the rooms where the launch & control module are, why are they still question marks? Thanks everyone!

Edit: thanks to your help i beat the game in the following loop. maybe i’ll get the dlc soon but my god, what an experience. i genuinely think this is one of the most incredible works of art of all time. not just video games, books, movies, sculptures, etc. i need some time to decompress.

Is there a point to the dark bramble? (spoilers)

I’m about 7 hours in & I think I got through most of the beginner exploring stuff. I’ve been to every planet multiple times, did the quantum moon 6th place thing, black hole forge, the interloper, high energy place (though admittedly i’m not super sure what to do here), & done all kinds of stuff. Discoveries are coming slower & slower now & I want to keep playing but I’m confused about what to do because I have so few “there’s more to explore here” notes. One thing I don’t get though is that there’s almost nothing known about dark bramble. I’ve been in there & found the orbs but I can’t interact with them & there’s practically nothing else except anglers. Am I missing something or is it just kinda there for the lore? What should I do if I’m starting to discover less stuff? Maybe take a day or two break?

ELI5: How does USPS package shipping work? How does it maintain a high level of efficiency?

Basically title. It amazes me that I can send a letter to Hawaii, basically almost half the planet away (I’m in FL) for less than a dollar. What I really want to know about though is domestic package shipping. How does USPS know how to sort things? How many times do they have to be sorted before they reach their destination? How do they know whether a package needs to be flown or drove from place to place?

Also, yes, I did just buy a package that’s being shipped from the other side of the country.

Found a great deal on a deck. I have $50 left for games, what are some good games that run well?

By some insane stroke of luck, I found somebody who had a (512 GB OLED) deck & didn’t know about the price increase. They sold it to me for $500 & it was barely used. They factory reset it & everything. Thing is, I already spent a decent amount on entertainment this month so I only have $50 left for games so I gotta be picky.

I specifically want games that are somewhat aesthetically pleasing, fun at 35-40 FPS, take 20-50 hours to beat, & present a decent challenge.

Previously Enjoyed Games: Dark Souls Series, Metal Gear Solid series, Devil May Cry series, Disco Elysium, Esoteric Ebb, Doom (2016), Cities Skylines, Inscryption, Inside, Slay the Spire, Little Nightmares, Killer 7, Bioshock Series

Preferred Genres: Steal action, narrative driven, ARPG, Horror/Survival, Rougelike strategy/deckbuilder/shooter, adventure

Budget: Absolute cap is $50 USD

Other notes: I like either a great story (MGS) or short gameplay loops (Slay the Spire). I play long sessions (2 - 3 hours) while I’m away from my PC

What games perform at around 35-40+ FPS that fit those criteria?

TADC didn’t need more episodes or longer runtime, it needed a focused story.

Think of Over the Garden Wall. Over the Garden Wall had about half the runtime of TADC, more characters, and no loose ends. Even characters who show up in the last two episodes (like Sara & Jason) feel like whole characters (as far as it’s relevant to the plot) without reading the comics. This is because each episode had a focused A & B plot with the occasional plot twist or lore drop at the end of an episode. OTGW is also about characters who got to a place they don’t understand & have unreliable memories. By the end, we understand the place they got to insofar as it has consistent rules, the audience knows what to expect from it & nothing that happens has to be explained by the audience with a headcannon or fan theory. TADC is not like that & didn’t need to be.

Sub plots & plot devices are dropped all over the place to such a degree that large parts of dialogue & runtime feel wasted. The computer room at the beginning of the show, blue AI, C&A, the NPCs being capable of having existential crises etc. aren’t explored in addition to seemingly important parts of the characters which are mentioned in passing.

Biggest complaint right here: Throughout the whole show the audience has NO way to anticipate which plot elements will have a resolution & which ones won’t. This is because time isn’t allocated in a way that makes sense.

The final episode is the most egregious example, with almost half of runtime covering Jax’ story & a bit less than a third being Caine coming back for unexplained reasons. Fans have come up with reasons for why Caine came back, one popular reason being that nothing is permanently deleted from a hard drive without it being degaussed. While you can make that claim, there is still no established in-universe reason why it could have happened. Additionally, if Caine could come back wouldn’t Kinger know? Wouldn’t he have said something about it? Regardless, the bloated size of Jax story especially leaves no room for anything else. In many other episodes, the therapy talks probably didn’t need to be so long. The show could have skipped story elements which had no resolution.

The writing just demonstrates that it is just not interested in its setting during most episodes & cannot properly manage expectations- leading the fans to have a mixed opinion of the ending.

I really wanted to like Ep 9 but there’s one thing I just can’t get over

So much of the plot depends on characters not communicating when it seems like they should. Ex. early in the show it’s revealed that Kinger remembers his life when he’s in the dark. Pom no is initially the only one who knows this until way later in the show. Realistically (in-universe logic) the cast has SO much time to just talk & I wouldn’t expect that kind of thing to stay a secret. Other folks would probably find especially because Kinger spends a lot of time in a dark pillow fort, or Pomni would tell the others because that’s kind of critical information. Nope, the others don’t find out until episodes later. You’d also figure that Pomni in episode 9 would confront Jax & not allow him to go off by himself, especially when it’s established ONE EPISODE PRIOR that he’s a part of the group & they don’t want him to go off alone & abstract. Pomni spent the whole show being the audience insert & the one who never gave up on trying to connect to the characters in basically every episode even if they were mean (ex. Manager Gangle). He even sides with the team against Caine after sitting in bed sulking the episode. Kinger also doesn’t appear to know that Caine can come back after being deleted even though he HAD to know that given that he was a programmer at C&A. Why wouldn’t he communicate that the danger isn’t over? & if the blue AI is important enough that Caine had to throw it away before coming back to the circus, why wouldn’t Caine explain it to the cast alongside the powerpoint? We know practically nothing about it.

I have other problems with the Ep 9 & the series as a whole (this is just one of the most major ones) but I really want to just be wrong or to have missed something because if there is an explanation for this then I will like the show a whole lot more.

Additionally: if Caine told them in the beginning that they were brain scans wouldn’t we have gotten a similar ending?

Just beat the game with this one simple trick

Steal everything. Steal from your enemies. Steal from your friends. That woman you have a date with? Steal from her. That cute little innocent gnome? They have pockets for some reason, steal from them. Doesn’t matter if you’re literally feet away from someone, steal the rug from right under their feet! Dex goes crazy in this game, I didn’t save scum once but I probably would’ve had to if I didn’t steal any item I needed to pass all the skill checks. Plus you can get feats that boost the attributes of the stuff you steal?! Yes, PLEASE. Having trouble stealing? Just steal the dex newspaper from the innocent kid just doing his job. BOOM! Theft engine right there. I don’t know what my alignment would be if the game gave you one at the end but 100% my morality when it comes to property rights would be a major factor.

Why do some people think fish & insects aren’t animals?

I don’t want to criticize anybody who has ethical reasons for restricting their diet, there are vegetarians with exceptions, vegans with exceptions, etc. No problem. But every now & again I have the same conversation where someone straight up denies that fish, insects or even humans are animals (although it comes from a different place when they deny humans). One of the weirdest things about it is that it usually comes from people who claim to care a lot about animals (ex. vegetarians, people who love their pets, etc. & I’m not even counting Catholics because I understand that one). As a server I’ve had vegans not know that salmon is a living, breathing 50 pound beast or people who seem to know everything about [insert animal here] but die on the hill that insects don’t count. Is this something that used to be taught before evolution was taught in schools that was passed down? Is there an esoteric/spiritual definition of animals that I’m not aware of? Is there a movement to eradicate fish & bugs or something?! Genuinely I don’t get it.
