Rail delayed between sort facility and me, where there exists no rail.

First it missed a connection (I dunno, maybe it was at the airport bar having a drink)...

Then it arrives in Calgary, decides that the choochoo isn't running even though there's no choochoo between Calgary AB and Sundre AB.

Package was shipped from Etobicoke Ontario on the 11th. Frustrating.

Infuriating App login expiration.

(Just a vent post).

Pretty much every time I go into the App (I'm using the Buick one but it doesn't matter), I have to sign in again. Sometimes twice in a day. It's especially infuriating because my password manager doesn't get triggered for whatever reason so I have to open that app and search for the password . Then I have to open my 2FA app and copy the code from it. It's just a whole bunch of steps when you're walking around somewhere and want to check if your charging is done or whatever.

Extra tips for my new TS101.

I just bought a TS101 after relinquishing my old Pace rework station. The TS101 came with a BC2 tip which is like soldering with a cast iron pan. I bought a variety pack of Feita tips off Amazon.ca which seemed to have the TS-I tip as well as some other less useful ones. When they arrived, none of them worked in the TS101. They all reported 6.1ohms on the display and the iron rebooted when I turned on the heating (running with the 24V 3A DC brick that the TS101 came with.

So now I'm gunshy. I need to be able to do 0201 type stuff and other microscopey work so I think the TS-I is probably my sweet spot. But what's a reliable vendor?

...or would IronOS have solved that problem? I'm a bit gunshy because of the reports that the display won't work right.

Sundre Pro Rodeo Parade cancelled after online harassment

https://centralalbertaonline.com/articles/sundre-pro-rodeo-parade-cancelled-after-online-harassment

Basically a float with nothing but Alberta flags was apparently initially disallowed in the parade and after some online backlash, was allowed again. Then the harassment increased, so the volunteers just cancelled the parade. As far as I know, town council was not involved.

Amusing to me, because I know some of the idiots in the Facebook thread(s) proclaiming "There was no harassment. I demand to see proof!" are exactly the sort of people who would harass volunteers and then stand back and say "I'm jUsT aSkInG QuEsTiOnS! Is that against the law?!?"

These seperatists are toddlers in the bodies of adults.

(I have nothing to do with this other than as someone who lives near the town and knows some of these idiots).

Edit: Actually, I'm in favor of a parade float that has only Alberta flags, Canada flags, and Rainbow flags. Everyone gets what they want.

Anyone still having connection problems after telematics replacement?

Our 24 RS AWD has been in an out of the dealership since the end of January. They've replaced BCM twice, SDGN once, and telematics module once plus updated all the firmware multiple times. But the car still can't connect reliably, so Google assistant and NAV doesn't work. The dealership had been working with GM Engineering but reading between the lines, they're out of ideas. They insisted replacing the telematics module would fix it. But we took a 2 day road trip and the car could only connect a couple times for a short distance.

Trying to gauge how common this is or if our car is an outlier. No lemon laws where we are.

Signal MacOS desktop app backup - trying to restore on new Android phone.

I'm seeing conflicting information about this. In some places I'm reading that the new V2 backup format created on Desktop can not be restored to an Android phone. But in my Desktop app in the Backups menu, I see:

'To restore a backup, install a new copy of Signal on your phone. Open the app and tap "Restore or transfer."

So that suggests it's possible.

What I did was create a new backup on my Desktop and it created ~/Downloads/SignalBackups and in that folder is two folders, one named "files" and the other "signal-backup-2026-05-31-11-33-33".

I transferred both of those folders to my Android phone using "adb push" and placed them in /sdcard.

Launched Signal on my phone and clicked on "Restore on-device backup"->"Choose Backup Folder". I did not click on "I saved my backup as a single file".

It then asked me to select the folder containing my backup so I selected "SignalBackups" and it said "Failed to load archive" . I also tried selecting the signal-backup-2026-05-31-11-33-33 folder and got the same thing.

There also appears to be no way to activate Signal Backups to their Cloud from Desktop as I figured that might be a way to get the backup from my desktop to my phone.

It also appears that the traditional way of doing this using signal-backuptools from github doesn't support the new backups yet: https://github.com/bepaald/signalbackup-tools/issues/382

So what's the actual story?

Edit: It works! I restored a backup I created with the Desktop app on Mac.

I used 'adb push' to copy the "files/" and "signal-backup-$DATE" to /sdcard/SignalBackups and it worked! If those two directories aren't in there, it will fail to load the archive.

Pixel 7 Android 16 stuck at CP1A.260405.005

I didn't want Android 16 but my phone upgraded to it. Shortly thereafter, my digitizer started to act flakey and the keyboard would cause all input to hang. Usually a reboot fixed it but now it's at the point where I simply can't get the digitizer to work at all. My phone has CP1A.260405.005 and looking here, I see they didn't roll out CP1A.260505.005 which allegedly fixes the digitizer problem. https://developers.google.com/android/ota#panther

So basically, Google bricked my phone.

If I connect a mouse to it it works fine and of course, once I unlock it, I can get at it with adb.

Anyone know of any ways to fix this aside from unlocking my bootloader and forcing a downgrade?

Grizzle Club referral program scumbags.

I used the "Invite & Earn" link on the Grizzle Club site to refer a friend to the Grizzle club after recommending he buy a Grizzle U48 charger. The charger arrived, my friend clicked on the link, signed up to the Grizzle club but signed up with a slightly different email address than the one the referral link was sent to. However, the commonality was the referral link. As a result, I am not getting the credit for my friend's charging sessions.

I brought this up with Grizzle and they refused to budge on this even though they admitted that it was clear that my advocacy was genuine and that there was an obvious connection there with the referral link.

So unfortunately, this is the second friend I've recommended a Grizzle charger to and lost out on the referral; which I realize is a mere $.01/kwh that they pour into their EV's.

I'll be recommending other chargers to my other friends looking at EV's.

"Can't Connect" and various connectivity issues.

Our 24 RS AWD has spent most of 2026 in the shop or waiting for parts. They've replaced the BCM twice, SDGM once, and Telematics module once. We just got the car back a week ago and we still have problems with Google Maps not connecting, and Google Assistant saying "Can't connect" and the voice telling us "I'm offline now. But you can ....blah blah blah". This is the problem we took it in for back in January. It worked fine for the first 8 or 9 months we owned the car.

I'm curious whether anyone else who is experiencing this problem had it still after replacing the telematics module? I'm trying to see if there's a pattern in the failure mode.

We live in an area with poor cellphone reception but after around 10km of driving, we have great reception. Sometimes the car just doesn't re-establish whatever connection it needs after it gets into an area with 5 bars; and sometimes it does. Yesterday, for example, we started our drive with no connectivity but then once we got to the main highway, Google Maps connected and stayed connected the entire 100km trip into the city. On the way back, starting in a high reception area in the city, Google Maps wouldn't connect and continued to stay disconnected the entire way home until around 3/4 of the way through the low-reception area but suddenly, on top of one hill where we can get a little bit of reception, it got reconnected.

It almost seems like if it loses cell reception at any point, then it can re-establish the connection when the signal reappears. But if it drops the connection for whatever reason, it can't re-establish it until the modem drops out completely and then comes back.
