Is there any reason to keep my biscuit jointer now that I have a domino?

Is there any reason to keep my biscuit jointer now that I have a domino?

I haven’t used it in a long time. Based on Facebook marketplace no one really wants one. Maybe donate to Habitat Restore. Or is there some hidden use I’m missing?

Mounting a freestanding drawer under counter - threaded inserts or straight screw connection.

Should I mount the single left hand freestanding drawer to the countertop with threaded inserts? Or just plain old big wood screws into the slab. The counter is a 2" thick walnut slab.

This is a rendering of the design my wife likes for a small dressing area we have. Finished the remodel and the walnut slabs more than a year ago. I'm a little behind on the cabinet/drawers.

Just need this simple question answered and I can proceed. Screw it in, or use inserts. Curios which is stronger for a hanging cabinet like this.

Thanks

Is it weird if I just start picking up litter on a block I don’t live on?

A relative bought a row house in Philly. I’m super handy so helping them do some mods on the house, fix a bunch of stuff, power wash some of the sidewalk, lots of other general cleanup.

There is a vacant lot next door that is fenced in but it’s collected a fair amount of litter against the fence, so I cleaned up the sidewalk next to it.

But the whole block has some litter. Not extensive,, but a few wrappers and cups and crap in front of each house in the street next to the curb. And some places where clumps have leaves have made it worse.

Would it be weird if some boomer like me just went down the block picking up trash? If you saw someone doing that in front of your house on behalf of a new owner on the block would you be happy or think I should mind my own business and stick the house I’m working on?

Wall cabinets over 37” deep laundry machines?

Just bought a home with this laundry setup on the second floor. I want some cabinets over the top of them instead of the measly wire shelf, but….The machines need space behind them for the dryer venting which puts the front of the washer and dryer at 37” from the back wall.

If I put up a standard 12”’or even 14” cabinets, most the family won’t be able to reach the doors, let alone find something in the back of them.

There must be a better way. Oh - and I can build cabinets - just can’t figure out what I should build?

Can I remove and plug this old water filtration system drain tube

The previous owners of this house had a ton of water filtration/softening system under the sink that is overkill for us so I’m removing it all. But not sure what to do with this black drain tube that comes in under the trap. Can I remove it? What to I repair the hole with? Maybe just cut the tube and cap it (assuming I can find a cap)

Thanks for any help!

Edit: yes it’s an s trap. House built in 2014 in Philly. Not sure if it was code then. Regardless, I’m not changing that. I’ll warn my kid who bought the house about self siphoning, which is probably unlikely with a garbage disposal in the middle d anyway.

How do you fix a hole on a hardwood floor like this one

Recently bought a house and the floors are generally in good condition. But there are a few holes like this.

I’m a woodworker so was thinking epoxy, but don’t know how I could flatten and smooth cleanly without damaging the finished floor around it.

Thanks for any advice.

Finally considering upgrading from S1 to S2. Are my 13 year old speakers really compatible?

I built out most my system 13 years ago. My app says a Play 5 purchased in 2015 is not compatible, but a Play 3 I bought 2 years earlier is ok. Can that be possible?

My app says these two are not compatible:

  • Connect:Amp (1/6/2013)
  • Play: 5 (3/28/2015)

The rest of my system is

  • Play 3 (1/6/2013)
  • Playbar (6/24/2013)
  • Sub (Gen 2) (6/24/2013)
  • Play 3 (6/4/2013)
  • Play 1 (4/9/2015) x2
  • Sonos 1 (10/24/2017)

Can I repair this rot on an aluminum clad if I am a decent woodworker and very handy?

Just found this sub, so let me know if there are resources I should go to first.

Thinking of cutting out rot and patching with some wood. Plus maybe Bondo? Just found this stuff too - repair-care.com.

As I said. -I’m decent with wood - have a well equipped shop - and not afraid to take stuff apart and rebuild it.

Any help appreciated!

Can I repair this wood rot on this aluminum clad window?

Any suggestions on repairing this window? It’s about 25 years old and I’d love for it to last another 10.

I am very handy and have a fairly well equipped woodshop. But I think this may be more about cutting out the rot and then using Bondo or some specialized filer compound. (I just saw an ad for repair-care.com but it may be hard to get in US)

Home sprinkler system leak - regular plumbing job or specialist needed?

A friend is buying a house in Philadelphia and the inspectors report came back indicating there was a leak in the sprinkler system - and it included this picture.

House built around 2014. Is there anything special about a residential sprinkler system that makes it different from regular plumbing?

I have sweated plenty of copper joints as a diy’er over the years, but I figured i’d suggest he call in a professional here. But does he need a “sprinkler tech” or something like that?

Does the system need to be drained first? Is extra there liability? Even looking for a “sprinkler expert” is hard because all you get are Lawn Sprinkler companies!!!!
