CAD Quote Seems High

I got a CAD done with my partner involved. It’s essentially exactly what they want. However, the setting cost seems exuberantly high considering it’s a relatively simple design with only one center stone.

For further context, I think I messed up in my understanding of the engagement ring process. Basically, I thought that I had to put a deposit down on the stone in order for them to mock up a CAD to get an accurate quote. I guess I should have just told them to wait if I wasn’t sure of their in-store quote? In-store, they estimated $ 2.1k for the setting, but once I got the cad back it was actually 2.5k for the setting.

I think that I should have talked to more jewelers before putting down a deposit on the diamond.

Anyway, I don’t know what to do. I feel like the process is moving fast. I already put down a deposit on the stone, and I need to tell the current jeweler if I want to go forward and make a wax mock up or not.

The local jeweler offers a lifetime warranty, including yearly cleanings, sizing and repair.

Band = 2500 14k gold at 6.025 grams
Stone = lab grown diamond 2.56 K VVS2 E color
Total = 6500

Can’t lift up bike to wall rack

Ideas on how to lock my bike to this style of rack? They don’t offer any alternatives in my building

Riding Protective Gear Share

I bought a new ebike and just went for a 24 mi dusk/night ride for my second ride on my bike. I bought BMX mesh top, full face helmet, actual motorcycle pants with pads and my docs.

Is this overkill and do I look like a doofus? Maybe.

But I like to ride fast and I live in a major city. I ride in unprotected lanes next to cars who are also going the same speed as me.

All I can say is I feel very safe!!

FedEx throwing my bike around (maybe?)

I’ve been reading about all the shipping mishaps on here.

Y’all my label got ruined in shipping. Pray for my unbotched scratch free bike 😭

(This post is somewhat sarcasm and a joke but I am genuinely scared to see what it looks like)

Why did you buy a scooter vs ebike or >50cc motorcycle?

Not sure if this is the right place but hopefully someone can give me some perspective.

I relocated to a “hilly” city in the PNW of USA, comparatively to the flat lands of IL and I own a regular pedal bicycle.

I LOVE to scoot around on the Lime scooters. I like that I can “keep up” with traffic better which means cars are less likely to over take me and squeeze me out.

Realistically, could I up my stamina and fitness to bike faster and get better at hills — yes. Do I have the mental willpower and time to put into that? Not really.

So this lead me to think about maybe getting an ebike, <50cc moped or full on small motorcycle. Also nowadays, a good quality e-bike can EASILY run you more than a simple moped.

Some limitations for a moped or motorcycle are:
- I’d have to rely on street parking
- we have rainy wet winters
- I’d need to train and pass a motorcycle exam (for 50cc+) but have no bike to practice on
- I’m 5ft with a 28” inseam so I’m limited to bike sizing which makes buying used more difficult
- I don’t have any riding buddies or riding friends. I’d be learning on my own so I’d have a bigger learning curve.

Curious to know what made you pull the trigger on a scooter vs e-bike or motorcycle. Thanks!

Edit: I’ve been properly educated on a moped vs scooter. So when I said moped above, I really meant a small 49cc scooter.
