APPROACHES
Outline one assumption of the cognitive approach. [2 marks]
Liam and Suki are siblings playing together. Suki asks to play with Liam’s toy, and he says no, and snatches it away from her. Suki is upset. Later on, Liam sees their father give Suki his phone upon her asking. Suki responds by smiling, and hugging their father. Later on, when playing together again, Liam gives Suki his toy. Suki gives her brother a big smile. Suggest why Liam’s behaviour changed. Refer to the social learning theory in your answer. [6 marks]
Outline the humanistic approach. Compare the humanistic approach with the psychodynamic approach. [16 marks]
BIOPSYCHOLOGY
(Im not gonna lie, i cant remember the exact details of the question. It was multiple choice, and the correct answers were A and E.) [2 marks]
Katie is taking a driving lesson when a dog runs out into the road infront of her car. She instantly slams on the breaks, her heart begins to race, and she starts sweating and shaking. Using your knowledge of the Fight or Flight response, explain Katie’s behaviour. [6 marks]
Outline infradian rhythms. Give one example in your answer. [2 marks]
Outline circadian rhythms. Refer to one study in your answer. [6 marks]
Discuss language localisation in the brain. [8 marks]
RESEARCH METHODS
A teacher wants to test whether people focus better when working by themselves or with others. The teacher observes as his students complete a psychology project in class.
There are 2 groups;
CONDITION A: 4 students worked in pairs to complete the project.
CONDITION B: 4 students worked by themselves to complete the project.
The teacher allocates students behaviour to 2 behavioural conditions; focus, or no focus.
Outline what type of hypothesis the teacher should use for this study. [2 marks]
Write an appropriate hypothesis for this study. [3 marks]
Outline how the researcher may have used random sampling to gather a sample of 8 from his class of 32. [3 marks]
Explain why the teacher may have used a covert observation in his experiment. [3 marks]
Define behavioural categories. [2 marks]
Outline why it was important to use behavioural categories in this experiment. [3 marks]
Outline the appropriate statistical test for analysing this study. Give 3 reasons why. [7 marks]
(I cant remember the exact digits on the graph; but the answer was that the table values are not significant as they are not equal to our greater than the calculated value.) [3 marks]
In this study, the teacher used informed consent. Name 2 other ethical issues that must be addressed in this study. Give one way ONE of these issue could have been controlled in this study. [3 marks]
Outline how self report techniques may affect the validity of research. [4 marks]
The teacher published his findings in a journal. In his introduction, he included the hypothesis of his experiment. Give one other factor he should have included in his introduction. [3 marks]
Design an experiment to test the affects of teacher feedback on students academic achievement. You will be credited for including the following: [12 marks]
The experiment used with justification
How the IV will be manipulated to result in alternation to the DV
The experimental design used with justification
One extraneous variable that may occur, and how you will control it
Is or has anyone been using uplearn and actually on track to get an a*? My school gives us uplearn for free but i never really used it because of how long-winded it is. but now im wondering if ive just missed an opportunity at an a*
Everyone is talking about issues and debates for the evaluation for the comparison of psychodynamic and humanistic but I did:
Similarity bc they both have real life application to therapy
Similarity bc they both are idiographic in nature (Little Hans for Freud and humanistic is person centered approach)
Similarity bc they both have little scientific evidence.. then I went on abt falsifiability ffs
Difference bc humanistic is more positive in general since it says you have free will and psychodynamic isn't
Difference bc psychodynamic has low temporal validity but humanistic has high temporal validity..
Pls tell me if I'm cooked I'm freaking out rn
defo not getting an A now 🥲
wdym it was chi squared and non directional
missed the ap3 of a 5 marker
didn’t finish designing
missed a 3 marker
i put non direction and crossed it out like twice and put directional bc of contradictory
ughhhh sigh i’m fucked
how many marks?? i said that the sister is the role model (not the dad) cause she got the phone which is something desirable and linked vicarious reinforcement to the sister which is why he shared his toys after 😭 i forgot mediational processes but i did define vicarious reinforcement
Paper 1 and 2 were so easy hopefully they aren't cooking up a foul paper 3
I feel like it was pretty similar to paper one in terms of having both really nice questions and trickier ones. The approaches section was good(thanks god for a straight forward comparison essay), biopsych ok but STATS TEST RM EXCUSE ME?! What did you put? And honestly I found the 12 marker quite hard to design as the stem was like whatever way u design it it will be pretty shit
I got confused did he want to make her smile is that what he was motivated by?
Thought it was quite ok actually 😋 I left the biopsych 8 marker till the end and I very stupidly went off track and waffled about brain cortexes before looking back at the paper and going oh wait its localisation of LANGUAGE but I did finish the paper (Just barely)
How'd everyone do?
I did right to withdraw and confidentiality then spoke about how the teacher should devfried and inform them of the right to withdraw their data
Would this get credit
For A01 I only mentioned wernickes area but used and defined key terms like anosognosia, neologisms, word salads and how it leads to receptive aphasia and that wernickes area is located in the left temporal lobe of the brain.
I completely misread it as lateralisation and started waffling about how Sperry found that the LH had a verbal role and that the RH had an emotional role for the a03 as research support.
it specifically said language so i talked about brocas and wernickes but i evaluated with phineas gage which might’ve been wrong
I got Chi Squared, but I heard some people in my class talking about Sign Test. What did you guys get?
Sorry I know there's a lot of posts about this already but I'm kinda confused seeing everyone talking about it
It was a 2 part question no? So half humanistic AO1 and half comparison. I did 2 paragraphs on humanistic AO1 and 2 developed comparisons (practical value and free will vs determinism)
For the people saying they did 3 or 4 comparison points, what AO1 did you do?
What did you guys put for this question? I heard people around me say they put aim, but all the notes online I’ve seen say that aim and hypothesis is in the abstract. I put general review of prior research, relevant theories, as this is what it says is part of the introduction, on the resources I’ve seen. But then I’m confused because in the question it said he put the hypothesis in the introduction?
okay so for psych im predicted an A* and normally im so good at it but all the exams have gone so bad. paper 1 i missed out a 3 marker and got the 7 mark stats question wrong, probably also made some stupid errors here and there where i lost marks. paper 2 i literally lost like probably 10 marks in research methods at least for stupid mistakes and i def dropped marks elsewhere cos i never get full marks on essays, i need an A for uni i hate this
so in my design a study i said i would use a natural experiment cos it has high mundane realism as students would perform how they normally would so high ecological validity and i said i could manipulate the iv while the participants are in their natural setting… i just realised i mixed up a field and natural experiment… how cooked am i
