Hey, a buddy mine is thinking of jumping into the game and he wants to know which Faction has a melee focus, if any. I don't know how much of the other factions play outside of Boone and U.N. Can anyone help?
On Sunday, May 17th I hosted another BLKOUT meet-up at Griffonest Games in Woodstock, IL. The group has doubled in size over the last year and there seems to be a lot of growing interest in the game in the Chicagoland area. We had twelve in attendance, and each played a series of three missions, tallying cumulative Victory Points for bragging rights.
I outfitted six, 2'x2' tables: three shanty towns, a space port, a shipping yard, and a largely interior board. I wrote all the game material and provided players with a packet including the missions and - of course - the cheat sheet/flow chart for Blast.
The first mission, "Security," had a pair of wandering NPC security drones that would attack the nearest target. Destroyed drones would respawn at the hard points, which could also be destroyed. Players also had the option of using data attacks to hack and move the drones.
The second mission was entitled "Squall." A magnetite dust storm covered the play space and severely inhibited line of sight and all electronics. Players could use hard points to temporarily shield the surrounding area from the storm's effects. Models that were exposed and up on terrain were at risk of lightning strikes.
The final mission was called "Hazmat." Prior to the deployment phase, each player would place a set amount of explosive barrel terrain on their opponent's side of the board. When damaged, the barrels initiate a Blast attack, then leave a special smoke marker denoting "toxic fumes."
Overall, it was a huge success! Everyone seemed to have a lot of fun and it was great to support the developing game community. We will definitely be doing it again.
If you're in the Chicago suburbs, keep an eye out on the Discord for future events.
Or do I have to wait for the action phase (the second movement phase of the unit)? The rules on Armory / Combat loads are not very clear. At least we could not find the answers for our questions.
Bonus question: Only Grunts can access the Armory - not specialists, right?
Bonus bonus question: 3. The Peacemaker is targeted by Blast and not the direct damage effects of dual use weapons right, because he is an Infantry model? And he can use Jump from the Armory and all other Armory items, right?
Thank you for your help!
Basically title. Can you use armory weapons when you counter fire or fire overwatch? I had a game where my opponent counter fired my razorback with a RPG33. I wondered if that was allowed, but couldn't find anything indicating that it was forbidden in the rules. Have I overlooked something? Help much appreciated.
Hello!
I've been reading the rules while waiting for my starter set to arrive and I have a question. When shooting with a weapon that has the melee keyword you move the shooting model into base contact with the target before any dice are thrown. I can't find any rules that forbid the target from shooting back as a reaction using its regular ranged weapon, so I assume it's allowed. Is that correct? I think i read/heard somewhere that you can only shoot back with a weapon that has the melee keyword but I can't find that info again.
I'd greatly appreciate it if someone could clear this up for me. Thanks!
Had four players playing Blkout today. James and his son Decker along with Richard and myself.
Richard and his Harlow 1st Reaction Force faced off against Decker and his UN 3rd Reserve Battalion whereas James brought his Task Force Boone vs my UN Raid Force Alpha.
Decker did well the first couple of turns but then his dice abandoned him giving Harlow the win. Task Force Boone got in some good hits but the outnumbered but elite UN Raid Force locked down the lanes of fire early on and took the win.
Richard then brought out his Black Pact and brought them against the UN Raid Force. The UN got seriously punched but eventually took down all the Black Pact pirates.
Just purchased the starter set after debating between getting into either warhammer or BLKOUT as my first tabletop experience. I’m sure I can figure out the rules and how to play no problem. But as a complete beginner who has never assembled or painted a model, what are some recommendations for tools, paints or advice to help me have a decent looking starter set?
Hey all, check out my Ork’s!

PLEASE don't compliment the bases, they're pre-done 😭
A little bit more to do on it but getting there
Haven’t been able to play for almost 2 years and finally getting back to it. So glad to see this sub is here and more people are playing. Dug out my models and here’s a few, all with speed paint.
A few of us are just getting started with Blkout and I'm wondering about scenarios. Most of those in the rulebook specify a 2x2 board (I don't have any expansion content yet). Are most people playing on this size, playing these scenarios on a 3x3, or playing different scenarios?
As a secondary question, are any of the expansions better for scenario content? We don't need the rules on new unit types yet, and I only want to get one or two for now.
Thanks!
My Harlow 1st reaction based on Titanfall pilots
The Assault team is based on the TF1 militia rifleman, control team based on the Sonar Pulse, and the Springbok on the Stim (the last 2 from TF2)
If people are curious the guns they have I tried to paint after the Flatline, Spitfire, R-201, and the Devotion
Proud of this one, probably looks better in person
