Escape question
This might sound stupid but My new ball python is about 6-7 months old maybe 13 inches and this tank I got has about a 1/16 size gap between the door and plastic. Google says they can fit because of how their bodies are but I don’t think it could squish itself that much right? It’s just big enough to fit a thermostat probe wire through so if any case I’ll do that instead of having them come down the top but I’m just curious if he could actually escape or not?

Rescued neglected ball python
Hi, as the title says I recently rescued a ball python from a home where all im gonna say was not suitable for reptiles let alone pets. I don’t normally just adopt animals I always do research first and I did but I’m still lacking in some areas and want to make sure I’m giving him the best home possible. Currently on a 8am-8pm uvb schedule with a 5.0 bulb in a 14 in hood, was told to use a 5 uvb but I also have a 10 that came with the hood. I have a 24 in hood that was given to me but I was told to keep the lights on one side of tank, if that’s wrong also let me know. The photo with 2 lamps was the original design but I was told those coiled uvb bulbs aren’t good for snakes even though the reptile store I got the enclosure and lights from recommended it?
-Acquired he/she 3 days ago and he hasn’t left the warm side of his enclosure yet. He explored the first day and He’s poked his head out and I’ve read that’s normal so I haven’t disturbed him but just want to make sure. I have wood im adding to the enclosure today as I’m assuming he feels vulnerable.
The warm side has been hitting constantly 88-90 degrees on a thermostat but the cool side when it does hit 90 does rise up to 82 so any advice on how to possibly get it back down to 80 let me know. Currently have them on an on off thermostat as the spider one I ordered wasn’t working and they’re sending me a new one. Will he be okay when I go back to work tomorrrow, the tank hasn’t seemed to overheat because of the thermostat I just feel bad with the flashing light from the basking bulb. He’ll only be alone from 7-11 then someone can check in on the tank temperature every so often till I get home. No stores nearby had dimming ones somehow so I’m aware they should be dimming thermostats I’m just tryna do what I can for the next few days. Also have a Che bulb on the cool side thermostat that only runs at night to make sure the tank doesn’t drop below 76 degrees but hasn’t had to kick on yet. I’m using a 100w basking bulk as a 75w wouldn’t heat up the basking area enough. My room stays generally between 75-80 during the day.
I’m pretty sure the substrate might be too dry even though humidity in the tank does read 70 on cold side and 60 on warm side. It’s coconut husk fiber substrate with moss. Is there enough moss? I’m aware the gauges that come with the tanks suck I’m just temporarily using them to hide the probes on thermostats. Recomendations welcome though even though i think the spider one does read humidity if I’m not mistaken. If they should be uncovered let me know they’re just tucked behind the dials. I was told to only get a 40 gal for now as he’s still a juvenile but I do plan on getting a nice 120 pvc when it grows more so I’m assuming that’s why the gradient isn’t hitting what it should. Im not afraid to spend money but I keep getting mixed advice and don’t want to keep going between tanks/fixtures and stressing it out. Are these zilla thermonitors crap? Retail was 70 bucks on them but I managed to get them on sale for 30 each.
Should I mist the tank or pour water in the corners? Last time I misted the cool humidity hit 90. Should I put foil/heat tape over any of the top? Should I move him? When is it least stressful for me to take him for a checkup, I was planning on doing it after he’s eaten and gone to the bathroom which feeding day is Wednesday so vet maybe next Monday? I was told to let him acclimate to his tank for 1-2 weeks before trying to handle him but if that’s wrong and I should do it sooner/ later let me know and Be blatantly honest and tell me what I’m doing wrong please!! Do I have enough moss and substrate/too much? Don’t mean to be a bother just trying to get this right.
I know the middle of the tank is too open I’m getting wood ready to go in the tank and some more fake plants just want to make sure it’s properly cleaned and I had everything else setup. Any ideas welcome Adding leaf litter soon too and I’ve cleaned his water bowl since taking that photo this morning. If I’m being cruel to this animal please tell me I’m tryin my best. All plants in tank are fake for time being as I’m not trying to bite off more then I can chew. Thank you anybody for ur time if u actually read all that I thought I had it all figured out:/
My two girls 🤍🤎

How to keep my terrarium cool?
So I’m in Texas and it’s fairly hot out.
My attic door which is in the hallway between me and my brother’s room has recently broke and doesn’t close fully, so hot hair seeps into my room. It wasn’t a problem before since keeping my fan on kept the tank at an optimal-ish temp n the warm side but now I’m having the door slightly open with my overhead fan on high and a vorpnado fan on high but the temp is still a little warmer that I would like.
Unfortunately I cannot move him downstairs due to my dogs and my mom, and I cannot move him to a different upstairs bedroom.
Other than the fans and spraying with cold water what can I do to keep his temps cooler than 93degree f? Should I turn off my dhp?
This is my first time owning a ball python and he has Brain dmg from a heat lamp dropping on him when he was a baby at the breeder
Boyfriend got a new python, we know nothing and apparently so did the prev owner…
Me and my boyfriend just purchased a ball python from one of his close friends and now that we have the enclosure we realize he wasn’t in the best care, pee in the tank I had to fish out, two heat bulbs. One of them is a red bulb and the other is a mysterious one that looks very similar to my bearded dragons basking bulbs, possibly 100w I say that because after turning on the two lamps the temperature of the tank increased to a very high 124 degrees Fahrenheit while the cool side was at 86, the humidity of the tank was 85 as well. The enclosure is 4x2x2. Not sure what new light fixtures I may need to purchase so any suggestions would be appreciated heavily. Since today is the Fourth of July pet stores are closed but I will run to one as soon as possible. Also, another question, this ball python is one year old and I’m not sure how often he should be fed I have heard anywhere from a week to two weeks so a strong feeding schedule I can arrange would also be needed.
Question
Does anyone have any references for a sanctuary that will take a 32 year old ball python. I’m in NYC.
Thanks
age estimates? owner before me said 1.5 years, man at an pet store told me 6-9 months. he’s only 100g right now
I call him Sluther Vandross 🙂
Hi all! Yesterday, my partner bought this lovely 4 month old male for me as a surprise. We were told his is a Spotnose Clown. I’m doing online research but, also wanted to see if you all have any suggestions on what to do for this enclosure and any accessories I need.
I’m going to get a thermal gun, temp and humidity readers today. As well as a heat emitting lamp with no light. The enclosure will face the window so I think that will suffice for day/night cycle.
Should I cover the sides of the enclosure? Should the entire top side be ventilated or do I cover a portion of that? The enclosure is 12” tall 23 1/2” wide.
I’d appreciate any additional advice! Thanks 🙂
HELP PLEASE
I’m not sure how old my ball python is but I’ve had him for a few years, I was giving him water but a little bit touched and spooked him, he went under his log and I left the room to get more water because I didn’t have enough, I was gone for about a minute and when I got back I realized his neck was stuck under the log, I quickly took the log off him and out of the cage and I tried to touch him but he hissed at me so I stopped. He put his neck straight up in the air for a little bit and just stood there, and then he curled up, but he keeps looking up, I’m scared and I’m not sure what I should do
first ball python, Drusilla 🖤
I recently got my first ball python at a reptile expo on June 27th and wanted to introduce her and get some opinions.
I was told she is a 4 month old female Super Black Pastel. as of today when I weighed her she weighs 90g.
I wasn’t planning to buy anything but I came across her and had never seen one that looked like her before and fell in love with her. I realize I should have researched the morph first, and that’s completely on me. since then I’ve learned there may be health issues associated with it, so now I’m trying to educate myself and make sure I’m doing everything right. she does have a tiny kink in her tail that the breeder told me about but as far as I’ve noticed that’s the only deformity.
does she look healthy based on these photos?
can anyone explain her morph and what I should know about it?
is 90g a healthy weight for a 4 month old female?
I reached out to the breeder asking what she’s been eating, how often she was fed, and when her last meal was, but I haven’t gotten a response yet. any advice on how I should proceed until I know her feeding history?
Any recommendations?
This is my first time ever setting up an enclosures for a snake and I'm wondering if there is anything i'm missing.
I'm gonna put a hammock in the top right corner and i was also thinking about adding a hanging ladder somewhere higher for some extra levels).
Also, the glas is not dirty. Its just water. 😌
Enclosure
I recently ‘adopted’ a male bp. His enclosure came with him, and wasn’t all that good so I upgraded it for the most part. Tips and suggestions are welcome and appreciated. He has a bio active enclosure with lava and magic potion isopods and springtails. Still waiting on a new water dish as well…
I need help
Soon I will be getting a ball python and I’m still doing my research so I can know as much as I can. I searched up on Google if their heat lamps need to be turned off at night because they’re nocturnal. Google said yes just wanted to make sure this information was correct

Tips for a new bp owner
The heat is good but still having some trouble with keeping the humidity up, I’ve taped of the mesh lid with foil tape and moved the water bowl to the warm side but the humidity is still sitting around 48%
