What mount for flat bars?

Looking to use these shifters on flat bars. They’re Suntour Power Control. I’ve looked into Paul thumbies but they only make mounts for Shimano, SRAM, and Microshift. Just looking for compatible mount suggestions. I’d prefer to have them under the bar if possible. Thanks in advance!

Getting into cycling

Hey, so I have been wanting to get into cycling for pretty cheap, I am a student. My actual bike is an old road/city bike Wich I inherited from my grandpa, and I am very attached to this bike. I was thinking I could maybe strip it apart and build it back up with new components keeping the frame, but I don't really know what to look for, my dream would be to install carbon wheels, but they are pretty expensive.

I am very crafty and that is why i would find it interesting to build this bike from scratch again, and I was wondering if it was possible to install disk brakes on an older bike, will it be safe to ride if I weld custom brackets on the bike to support the disk brakes since the frame wasn't build to function with disk brakes, and also do you have recommendations for good quality parts that are pretty light and that I could find second hand, or just cheaper options for the whole groupset and wheels.

I made a simulation using chatgpt to see what it could potentially look like in the end but the parts I provided him to make this are out of my budget. Would it be a good idea in your opinion and what parts should I be looking for?

How would you convert this steel bike for steep dirt roads?

I’m looking for advice, so thank you in advance if you have any thoughts.

I’d like to take my old steel Rivendell frame and fix it up for use on steep dirt roads. It’s been in storage for years, and probably needs all new components. Currently it’s set up as kind of a road cruiser, with wide tires, brooks seat and Deore XT brakes and drive.

What component set would you recommend? Is it possible to salvage the components I have, and next get a new chain? I probably need new wheels.

It’s a huge frame, I’m pretty tall, but I’d like a more comfortable riding position, and possible a mountain bike style handlebar, unless that sounds crazy.

Thanks again!

Found this neat saddle cheap

Fabric Cell Radius Elite saddle.

Looks neat and super cozy, but I’m not a blue guy. At all. I have a Bridgestone city limit I’m building up that I do need a saddle for if anyone is interested in acquiring or trading for it. I need a few things actually for it. So I am very open to parts and tool swaps.

One piece handlebars and Stem

I just bought the polygon strattos 7 and it’s a great bike but I would love to upgrade to a one piece cockpit, how do I know if the one I’m about to buy is compatible?. Would love some recommendations on cockpits and even just aero bars. Thanks in advance!

Vel RL freehub too loud

Hi all, would appreciate some help here. Just bought a second hand bike for my gf, and she’s not a fan of how buzzy/loud the freehub is on the Vel carbon wheels.

Is there any way to quieten this down beyond replacing the hub entirely? Obviously it would involve taking the casette off and some freehub disassembly but I’d rather not go through that if that’s not an option with this sort of hub.

Many thanks 🫡

[Question] Caliper Adapter Design - Pros and Cons

Hi guys,

(Let's ignore manufacture's reputations, brand, materials and QC...)

I was browsing AliExpress and discovered there is this "A design" adapter.
The "G design" is the tradicional one - which Shimano sells.

I'm curious what are your take in it.
The tradicional "G design" works and this safe - but has short comings.
It require longer fasteners - that tend do bend over time
It also relies on alignment-washer - which are kinda bad.

On the other hand this "A design" fix some problems:
- Uses shorter fasteners (less bend)
- Does not require alignment-washers

But I also see drawbacks:
- The adapter becomes part of the force path - it might fail
- Very little material around the holes
- Places the caliper a little lower (good? bad? neutral? Irrelevant?)

What are your take on this?

Finding the correct rim size and tire size, titanium frame

Bought this old titanium litespeed frame for $400. Trying to figure out how big a rim I could go along with tire. The current photos show my all road state stock tires. These are 700c, 24mm external rim width with a 38mm tire. There’s about a mm on both sides. Need a smaller tire. Thinking about 35mm. I’m looking at picking up the DT g540 rim with a 28mm external rim (24mm internal). Went and asked a bike shop for help and they told me they were too busy. Chatted AI and well now I’m here. Just don’t want to buy the wrong thing.

I plan on using this for bikepacking in Norway a couple hundred miles. 70%road, 25% gravel, 5% single track. I have other bikes but this is my first build where I’m really trying to learn if all.

[Research] Silent & frictionless freehub: What is your preference?

Hi everyone!

I am a high school student and a cycling enthusiast, and I'm currently working on a project to develop a new type of freehub that is completely silent and frictionless while coasting.

I want to understand the community's perspective on freehub noise and component wear. If you have 60 seconds, I would really appreciate it if you could fill out this short survey. Your feedback will be a huge help for my research and development process!

Link to survey: [https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSe8whRNC\_nlhYdoFB6Ou4oWdZkST0grzH5YR2c0BV7IO6HGeg/viewform?usp=header\]

Thank you for your time and ride safe!

MOUNTAIN BIKE SEAT POST REPAIR STILL IN SERVICE FIVE YEARS LATER

Here is another seat post repair I did five years ago. I looked up this gentleman today to see how his repair held up over the years. He sent me these six pictures showing before and after. He is still riding it five years later.

I wanted to make a point that welded aluminum bike frames can still be safe to use PROVIDED they have been properly braced and reinforced. The only condition is that to allow for a safety margin, do not use them for hard off road rides. That's not to say they won't hold up, but just to play it safe. I say this because some of my clients who I repaired chain stays, swing arm suspension bikes, head tubes, seat tubes, top tubes, etc. who were hard riders still used them like that against my warning not to. Again with no incident but in my opinion, that was pushing it too far.

BB question.

So I have a mongoose beast, it’s a fat tire single speed bike. I ordered the bottom bracket to replace worn bearings and I got a 110mm one but when I put it on the nut would sink in past the edge of the bb case as if it where to short. So I sent it back and ordered a 120mm and now the threads are sticking out past the edge as if it were to long. Am I doing something wrong?

Where does everyone buy parts?

I am new to bike wrenching. My wife asked me to upgrade the components on her bike. This is a fantastic community with tons of very helpful advice. Add in YouTube university and I know I’ll be able to successfully wrench on the bike.

My major question is what is the best resource for new components? Where does everyone get parts from? Like is there a bicycle version of Rock Auto?

I’ve found parts on Jenson USA, and on Performance Bike. But I don’t know if I’m overpaying from those outlets.

Is there something better?

Upgrading a vintage Panasonic bike

I have an old Panasonic bike sitting in the back of my garage. I’ve been thinking about building a bike packing specific rig instead of taking the bags on and off my daily driver every time.

My goals would be upgrade the drive train, switch the shifter from top tube shifter to standard hood style, upgrade wheels with some gravel tires, and possibly upgrade to disc brakes.

Has anybody done a similar build with a vintage bike? Is it feasible? Or should I just spend the money on a salsa journeyer

My budget is 900-3200$. Big gap but I’m willing to spend more than new salsa journeyer would cost, but I don’t wanna spend as much as a brand new warbird.

I have the skills and tools to do just about any custom fabrication needed but I also don’t really want a frankenstein bike that it’s impossible to find parts for at any local bike shop when I’m out on a trip.

Pinkbike , is it safe? Anyone have experience with buying stuff from here?

I created a profile and found a wheel set that’s coming from a seller in another country. Anyone have experience with this? Are the transactions protected?
